  • So we are at the first oil change, by my standards 5k or less on any gas engine. According to GM 7500 is okay. So on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500 and HD 3500 trucks, with the L8T 6.6 L Gasser engine with Allison Transmisson, this process will work just fine. This will also cross over to the GMC Sierra HD trucks both 3500 and 2500 with Gas engine. Below you will find the link to the items you will need to complete the change and links to head right on over to the Zahn and get the stuff coming. Or head over to the auto parts store and get er done! #affiliate, #afflink

    I have a 2021 3500hd with the 6.6 gas engine and I changed my first oil at 1500 miles.. it now has 15000 miles and I have no oil consumption so far..

    One item that tends to get overlooked by some that change their own engine oil is not remembering or not even owning a grease gun to grease the steering or ujoints ( on vehicles that have any grease-able components ). Of course one hopes that the lube place that some bring their vehicle to for an oil change will in fact lube the chassis as required but that could be hit and miss depending on the personnel and the companies protocol . But back to this truck, if you feel like doing a "what is there to grease" video of this truck at some point, that may be helpful for some viewers not at all familiar with the current GM HD truck as per regular maintenance items. The how to on other vital fluid levels as well but I realize this channel isn't necessarily meant to be the down and dirty maintenance channel like a channel a mechanic with a lift would do for that type of in depth content.

    Just ordered the oil change kit through your link, honestly a great price and should arrive tomorrow. Only real complaint I have with our 23 hd is the fact the hood is taller than me. I’m a “small dude” at 5’6”, my dad who’s the primary driver of the truck when it’s not towing our race trailer is 6’ so he can do the top half of the oil change without issue. Meanwhile I’ve purchased a step platform just to fill it with oil and check the dipstick, and because I was the one who needed one of us to get a bigger truck I am in charge of maintaining it. Great video!

      @@bigbeef8935 I do, it’s still a stretch and a reach. Lol. At the track last month I got a good laugh from some people while checking the oil. At least you don’t need a jack to remove the drain plug or filter.

    Nice video. One thing I want to mention to you is there was another TSB for tightening the oil filters on these trucks because a lot of guys were having them come loose. So if you will look on the filter it will tell you 1 full turn instead of 1/4 turn from gasket contact.
    But good video. Don’t forget to make sure that rubber gasket/O ring comes off with the old filter for people changing their own oil. And also don’t forget to rub a little oil around that gasket on the new filter before you put it back on.
    There’s 9 grease fittings on the truck too that might be a good video idea for you.
    As for the frame, absolutely don’t rub it and avoid high pressure washers too. Just a regular water hose. I spray mine typically with my foam cannon and then just rinse it off. It still looks pretty good.

    Please stop recording your videos backwards. The AC Delco oil filter is shown backwards as an example. Great filter removal/install tool. Won't collapse the filter housing. Using gloves is very important to keep the various oil chemicals off your hands. Nice you are pointing out the various parts involved in the oil and filter change. I like a funnel with a fine screen inside to catch anything that might fall in and pass on into the engine. You can take your old oil filter and oil to most auto parts stores for recycling. Don't just go outside and dump it on the ground. Thanks for the review.

    Nice video and thanks for sharing! I'd add....oil drain plug gasket and fill oil filter before installing, seeing as filter installs vertically making it easy to do. If you could put together another video on.... greasing front end accessing the 9 zirc fittings, and the GM recommended grease (AC Delco)....that would be great! Thanks!

    Would It be better to run a 5-30 diesel oil in this engine than a gas grade oil?

    • @automotiveinquiries9673
      @automotiveinquiries9673  Год назад

      I'd only put in what chevy recommends...although it would likely be just fine, heaven forbid something happened and they tested it, they could use that for warranty issues. Now if the diesel met the API standards then it may be okay.

    • @justinm9815

      No gas and diesel oils have different formulations. Now you can find oil that’s good for both but you shouldn’t run diesel oil in a gas and visa versa
