    If it`s too hot in summer in your area for pole beans try Red Ripper Peas. Cook the young green pods like Asparagus Beans or shell them after they turn purple.

      @@CaliKim29 Red Ripper Peas can survive a very long time with no rain. I tested them this year during a drought lasting about two months and they`re still alive. The government used to pay people to grow them for food for livestock and humans. They`re a Cow Pea variety like Asparagus Pole Beans but are the most heat and drought tolerant vining variety I know of. I planted some around the edges of my rural yard for the wild bunnies and it kept them out of my garden. But even though the bunnies pruned them they grew back and survived the long drought. The boiled green pods have an asparagus texture and nutty taste and are really good.

      The horizontal broken stock, I cut off and tied into the existing lower half of the stock -already- there to firm it up.
      The seeds I put out for the birds-off camera- (they're happy now).
      Last, the branches were put into the compost pile-off camera.
      Were you wanting to "see" those off camera parts? LMK!!! CK

    Great use of the dead sunflower! Impressive in life, and useful in death.
    A few days ago I had about an hour of high winds and rain come blasting off the Atlantic and when I looked out my largest strongest eggplant seedling had snapped in half and was hanging on by a thread 😭 I didn't panic though. I just cut one of my velcro plant ties, wrapped up the area and immediately staked it. It was only 5cm high so I didn't think it needed staking yet. It has totally bounced back, grown taller, and is even putting out new leaves. Sometimes if you catch them in time they can still be saved...😊 If it hadn't recovered, then my next step would've been to just stick the top bit into the ground and see if it would generate new roots. Failing that, compost.

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  Месяц назад +1

      What a story of resilience-both for you and your eggplant! 🌱 It’s amazing how plants can bounce back when given a little TLC. That velcro tie saved the day! High winds can be so rough, especially when they come out of nowhere like that, but it sounds like you handled it like a pro. If it hadn’t recovered, your compost plan was a great backup, too. Nothing ever really goes to waste in the garden!
      Hope your eggplant keeps growing strong! Thank you watching AND for subscribing!!! GREAT having you ! CaliKim

    Hi Kim and Gerry!!
    Thanks to you, I saw you mention sunflower stalks and have done that for a couple years to support my tomato plants.
    This is completely off topic. but I had to contact you both!
    I have had frozen tomatoes waiting for me to man-up and make spaghetti sauce since last month. My family wanted me to do something so we could get more space in the freezer! I have viewed so many you tube videos my head spins and it makes me even more insecure. I mean I'm 64 yrs old and it's ridiculous! I made sauce a long time ago, but haven't been the right head space the last 2 years. Anyway, I came across your Pasta sauce video from 11years ago and OMG, I followed your process including seasonings and BAM my family wants me to make more! I know you didn't can, but I had 21lbs of various tomatoes that yield 8 pints. I made it super thick because I could also use as pizza sauce. To heat I added 1 can of tomato sauce and didn't have to adjust any seasoning except for adding a touch of sugar.
    When I saw your video I was so happy and trusting of you, because you were so straight forward. Please know how much all of your videos reach soo many people in so many different ways!!
    Sincerely, Judy

      Oh Judy, this just warmed my heart! 💕 I’m so happy that the pasta sauce video helped bring you back into the kitchen and even more thrilled your family loved it! It’s amazing how a recipe can connect us like that. I love that you made it thick for pizza sauce-genius! Your story means so much, and I’m so proud of you for tackling that freezer stash! Keep up the great work, and don’t hesitate to reach out anytime.
      Have fun with those extra freezer shelves! CaliKim

      @CaliKim29  Месяц назад

      I get it - I've had those, as well! So it sounds like you missed discovering the mildew, or waited to long to react to it, right? That's what you have to do differently.....I walk my garden weekly and just look at the plants for health issues, bugs, anything....I touch the plants, flip their leaves up and down, etc. And you go from there! That help? Kim

    Just came in from playing my violin out in the garden, waiting for the harvest moon.
    Caught your video, the moon is being stubborn, lol.
    Nature played a huge part in one bed I have going, planted some cucumbers and beans, rodents planted sunflowers, now I have cucumbers climbing sunflowers.
    Sometimes it is Ok to let nature play its part in your garden.
    Nothing goes to waste in my garden, I either feed it to my worms or it turns into compost.
    I wish you would have said @ 5:34 to leave the roots in the soil. The rhizosphere around the root zone is loaded with microbiology that is beneficial for your bed.
    Have to go out and see if the moon came over the pine tree, perhaps, play another song or two.
    Your dog is so much like my Hedi, always by my side.
    Stay Well!!!!

      Judy, playing the violin in the garden under the harvest moon sounds so peaceful! 🌙🎻 I love that your cucumbers are climbing sunflowers-nature’s got a way of making things work, doesn’t it? Totally agree, letting it do its thing sometimes creates the best surprises! And you’re absolutely right about the roots-the rhizosphere is like a secret treasure chest for soil health. Next time, I’ll be sure to mention leaving the roots!
      Hope the moon finally showed itself! Hedi sounds like such a sweet companion, just like my little buddy. 🌻🐾 Stay well and keep playing those garden tunes! CK

      Heidi is like a shadow, one I will never be able to replace. The funny thing is, Heidi is my Kathy's dog, I mean to say, Kathy is Heidi's person. I have had the honor of being "The Person" in several dogs lives in my lifetime, just hope they are waiting for me in heaven.
