Farewell Barry, Farewell Les. I love this scene and I will remember it long, long after any Dame Edna scene. Beautiful.

Betjeman and Sir Les is a meeting that could not possibly occur in this dimension.

What a gem! Hope Sir Benjamin didn't feel out of his intellectual depth in the presence of this great cultural icon.

Old sport looked a bit out of his element, but gave a right effort in the presence of our cultural diplomat.

The cultural impact of of Australia on the rest of the world ..especially the mother country ...Gt.Britain,CANNOT be underestimated, manifested in the form of Sir Les Patterson...cultural attaché to St James.....hats off to him for spreading laughter & humour around the world brilliantly!!!

Great to see this again, but what a pity the initial spoken-only part is missing. A screech of tyres and Sir Les is heard saying to his chauffeur: "Leave the engine running Dennis, I'll only be a few minutes with this old codger". It added so much to what followed.

I noticed Les's teeth and makeup became more outlandish as time went on. He looks almost normal here. Brilliant comedy!

I actually bought a powder blue suit - linen - in Sloane Square, but I soon discarded it after it acquired too many stains - you know, the usual red wine, turmeric, soy sauce, et al. What a fool I was!

Absolutely stupid - the spunk stains are completely invisible

In Bevis Hillier's biography of Betjeman, Barry Humphries plays a significant role there toward the end.

Great footage of old Les showing the poms how to promote culture. One of his great lines he in another video l watched old Les sais there's a rumour going round there's no culture down in Australia we'll lm here to tell ya we got it coming out of our arse?? knowone could describe it better than a cultural icon such as Les. The look on Barry Humphries face at the end said it all.😁👀

Thank you, that's wonderful. I'd never even heard of it. Sterling performance by JB. What a shame they didn't also invite Barry McKenzie to regale the Laureate with a rendition of The Old Pacific Sea.
