I'm gonna go ahead and address some things here. First off, I'm not a boomer. Recently turned forty. Growing up my pop had a bunch of documentaries, old fights, football games etc...recorded. I watched them repeatedly growing up. For me the difference in this video isn't so much the hits, it's the perfect form and technique. The hustle plays...guys diving for fumbles, running backs blocking, hustling to block after an interception, etc... I'm glad the NFL says safety is a focus, but honestly to me they're pretending. Because of less wrap up tackling, and not focusing on teaching proper techniques (because of the rules) players are more dangerous in their approach to tackling now. Flying into someone head first is far more dangerous than what we saw in this video. Finally, I love today's game for the most part. There are some changes still needed. I have an award for a piece that I did on concussions from the, Kansas Association of Broadcasters. Years ago I slightly altered it for, RUclips. I'll give the link if anyone wants it! Enjoy the playoffs this weekend! And thanks to everyone for watching and taking the time to comment! 👊🏼

@@tedbaxter5234I don't know if you watched the Eagles game last night but his analysis is spot on. The concentration of players manipulating their tackle avenues in order to avoid a potential penalty is astounding in today's game. As a result the secondary couldn't do crap last night but watch the Bucs score. That eradic movement is what leads to injury and has been shown epically this season. People often talk about concussions but what they fail to realize is that today's game has yet to have a generation go by where we can actually determine if any of these changes results in a noticeable difference concerning concussions. But one thing I do know is that this season and those of the last 5 years have seen a large amount of injuries concerning backs and ligaments that's usually not seen during a season... but I'm glad he stated he's not a boomer, cause that's really important...

The Ref came out, stood over the ball and the roar of BOOS swelled. He was looking at a guy on the sidelines with a sign that had red on one side and green on the other. When it flipped green the game would continue. Changed the game forever. The Redskins were famous for running the ball to the point that the other team would wear out - now they got a programmed break.

I stopped watching the NFL a few years ago and rarely watch FBS games, but I did take in the most recent college playoff. During one of the games, at the beginning of the 4th quarter, the announcer says something like "now's when all that conditioning comes into play" and I'm thinking WTF, most of these guys are playing 6-8 snaps every 15-20 minutes, how does conditioning even matter?

It's Pro "Wus- ball" now...They run out of bounds on almost every play...can't catch...can't block...sure don't know how to tackle...BUT...they sure can DANCE!!! The NFL sucks today!!! HOF DE Gino Marchetti of the Colts said that..."The defenses of today are set up to make the offenses look better than they really are! Imagine the "players" of today going back to the 50's...60's...and 1970's and playing against REAL football players like Dick Butkus...Deacon Jones...Jack Lambert...these guys would would have been charged with attempted murder....The "Head Slap"...the "Leg Whip"...the "Clothesline"...now a guy gets shampoo in his eyes...he's on IR for a months...got back to the nfl when it was played by real players...now it's a clown show!

@mildtotemperate well I'm not saying it is, but I can cite some things for you. Michael Francese, did an interview saying to watch out for refs. The leagues make sure the refs can't answer the media. In fact in the NBA ,if an official is allowed he submits a written statement to the league first. They review it and decide on what's allowed to be said.

That's the football I grew up on, but as much as I love it, I can also see some parts of it that were never necessary. The odd thing is, even with all the safety rules today, I see what looks to me like more dangerous and vicious play today. Guys are so fast and strong now, and have weaponized the helmet so much, that it seems like there's a lot less "routine" violence now, but what there is now is more catastrophic. Like the Tyler Higbee injury this past weekend. Brutal, dirty, avoidable, cowardly hit. Guys in the video above weren't afraid to actually tackle. Now it's just spearing guys to knock them out and potentially sabotage their entire careers. That seems worse.

I vividly remember watching the game called, "The Drive"
Elway! A real quarterback. A lot is said about concussions and brain damage and such. Yeah, hazards of the job. Just like any of my jobs. Or yours. There's risk, and there's hazards. We knew it and we pushed it down to the depths of our thoughts because we were paid to do a job. That job was to complete any task asked of us. That's where character steps in. To consciencely plan to minimize risk and train to perform with confidence. Those days of character and integrity are over, it seems. Now, it's more about negotiating a huge paycheck without having to excell at all. I see one mediocre play after another and the most important thing the player focuses on is stepping into an open space in cameras view and posing while encouraging the crowd to worship them. I miss players like Barry Sanders. This game today is Bullshit.
