Another golden nugget episode? Yippee! I can’t wait to see Ed’s reaction 🥰
We definitely aren't zuk pros but glad we could help and look forward to seeing that sweet XJ back on the trail with a Freedom Winchline!!
Thank you!!! I’m excited to get it installed and get to using it again!!
I’m loving the Suzuki love. So it’s a stock 1.6 8v, 3spd auto, stock Tcase gears? And 5.12 gears? I really want to know how those 31s feel on the highway. I’ve heard with the 3spd and 5.12 it’s pretty reasonable. I have a manual and may have to settle for 30s, so no milestars… 😩
@@chrispclimbs should’ve been 1.3 8 valve 4 or 5 speed
@@johnmilligan8676 they put a geo tracker drivetrain in.
@@chrispclimbs you can follow the build on fab rats channel
Your not just a paint shop your a full restoration shop.
I’m new to your channel since this build started from Matt’s off road recovery
Now look forward to your posts every Sunday.
And love when you bust Matt’s chops the beard imitation of Matt was hilarious
Man for a “paint” dude you sure know your way around the inner workings of how everything comes apart and goes back together. Freakin beast! Glad I subscribed, great content!
Most paint guys are very good mechanics. As are body guys. But very few painters are body guys and vice versa
Most paint or body guys have to have a working knowledge of tearing cars down, they have to know how to take them apart to to repair & paint them.

Well said! I had the exact same thoughts as they pulled it apart. I also was having a mild panic attack thinking of my 79 CJ getting torn down. I realize everything will eventually be shiny and new… but… Heck!!
Beast mode activated!
Robby, REALLY enjoying these super deep teardowns. I'd love to see more of this type of content on your channel. Thanks for the entertainment! Also, looks like hillbilly is really coming to life in front of the camera, glad to see a bunch of him today!
Yes! Like he said in the Q&A, they mostly do collision repair. So complete teardowns are rare and still somewhat of a novelty I would think.
I’m truly impressed to what level you guys are taking this restoration! It will be like spanking new! Guess there will big a big fat smile on Ed’s face (and many others!) and I guess a few tears as well.
The whole point of doing this (apart from a nice surprise for Ed) is to show what they can do so yeah, it makes sense to go the whole hog.
Im not sure there will be tears. But maybe.
Eds gonna ask where is old golden nugget is lol
This show is one of the best. I have been watching since the Golden Nugget. Matt said you were going to do the body work and paint it.
Paul worked on for a while then you got it. I have subscribed to everyone that has touched it and the people who have donated parts.
Just waiting for Ed to drive it.
Keep em coming.
I've been following along too! Everything but where the parts came from, what channel was that?
@@nextbizzy Bleepin Jeep
@@nextbizzy Matt's Offroad Recovery and a friend of his. I don't remember the man's name but their were others who have been helping with parts like for the body swap.

Wow I didn’t think you guys were going that deep , with the axles and all
No joke.... That thing is going to be showroom quality buff shine
Dont think Paul or Matt did either.
Check out Fab Rats on RUclips for the full build!
Marketing 101
These builds are gold in terms of exposure and reputation - they are rolling advertisements
Don't think the shop is being hammered from inquiries? Imagine you're in a high cost state (cough, calif) and all you have to do is trailer your car to utah.
above and well-beyond!!
This has been great. Seeing, not one, not two, but three different companies, with skilled tradesmen putting all this time into this old rust bucket is a demonstration of good old mechanical ingenuity. America needs more of this.
This is one of the most exciting builds on RUclips right now! A whole community took action. Ed is a charming character, he deserves this amazing restoration
🤣🤣🤣 you B*stards! Had me all upset thinking you were actually going to ruin the surprise, can’t wait to see it painted up 👌
God bless you all for what you're doing for Ed, you're the truest friends a man could have. 🖖
Robby, that nugget is gonna be worth it`s weight in gold, literally, because of how famous it is! You guys are gonna make Ed cry, that`s kinda mean, don`t ya think? lol
Robby, Hillbilly and Big Dinner are the pros that you don`t see coming, way more talent than you would expect from three goofballs! Love you guys!
Ayuh, right on!
Ed’s tears will be tears of joy and gladness.
Goofballs? They float like butterflies and sting like bees!
Notice that Ed was worried about the extra effort it would take to paint the little ROKON bike with metalic. He doesn't want any extra fuss on his behalf. When he sees everything that everyone has put into this project... ya, he'll be upset. I don't expect many words to be flowing, but the appreciation will.
I'm 70years old and still learning something new every day from you young bucks, that i thought i forgot..lol and your funny too. Keep up the excellent work knowledge, enjoy every minute of it. Frovik towing.
It breaks my brain seeing you disassemble a vehicle down to the subatomic level, while knowing that you'll still be able to put it all back together. Your videos have given me a whole new respect for what body shops do behind the scenes.
Just wishing ALL body-shops do at least half of the lever Robby's shop does... Our in Canada, definitively do not... 🙁🙁🙁
I feel like your guys channel is doing so well because your attitudes are so good!
👍
This is the first time I've seen Ernie. I love his sense of humor. You guys are amazing. I love seeing how body work and restorations happen. So fascinating! Keep up the good work!
Ernie will be around a lot more
Nice! Can't wait to see more.
I hope I got it right, Ernie is Robby's dad?
@@lauriegifford2979 That what I was also ASSUMING.

I am sooo excited. It's going to be incredibly special when Ed get this Nugget back!!
You guys actually care about doing things the right way. I know nothing about pulling apart a differential. Because is was the Golden nugget, I enjoy every minute of it.
Oh Man that Jewel of a Metro Van has GOT to be on top of the to do list!! That's soooo sweet!
You guys are impressive! Very nice how you are doing a complete tear down on the nugget. I was under the impression that you would make it look good for what it is. Not going as far as having everything powder coated and the whole 9 yards.
This build is gonna be far more impressive than the Banana or the Rudacon.
I can’t wait to see this build when it’s done. 👍🏼💯
Tearing something apart is easy the impressive part is remembering how it all goes back together....🤣😂🤣😂
Bet this totaled will be a $50k + restoration.
I'm so impressed that you guys can keep track of all those parts.
they are bagged and labelled
They, also have video to keep the brains and check.
It’s really a super simple vehicle. Ones now days are much worse
I’ll be impressed if we can put it back together. 🤣😉
We tear apart massive turbines and bag and tag just like that (upper half/lower half, upstream/downstream, left side/right side, inboard/outboard, generator end/turbine end etc) that's how ya do it
Lol! Yep. Sure am glad ya got "Ed" there! It's very cool that you let him pick a color rather than just refinishing the Nugget in it's factory color code. Didn't expect y'all to tear it down as far as you have, but that's definitely the best way to do it. That'll be show quality when you're done, and I'm looking forward to Eds reaction when he gets it back. Much love and respect to all of ya.
At 28:58 the Jewel Tea Co delivery van brought back memories: in mid 1960s a promotional helium balloon drifted onto our property in Elwood, IN. It contained a gift certificate from Jewel, sent aloft from a company party that happened ( I think) in St Louis, MO.
I thought that you were just going to paint it. Here you are taking everything apart. May the force be with you!!!!!!
I love how you all shared the opportunity to help restore Ed’s Golden Nugget! He’s gonna love it and I can’t wait for all this work to pay off
I am finally putting my 15 year long truck project back together, I wish I had a team like yours! Nobody stands around or has to be told what to do, they all just get after it! Great job Robby and the “Can Do Crew”
I've been studying all night for my Investment licenses
This video is great for my break!
Go Ed!
I get anxiety over watching you dismantle, all the parts and pieces...I'm glad I get to see it in action, and you get to do!
Robby is awesome...such a young dude with such big success gained by hard work and zero bitching and moaning....slow clap to you bro! Dinner...Hillbilly...solid crew... surround yourself with solid guys I'm sure didn't hurt your success either 👍
Absolutely amazing. Robbie and team you are always so upbeat, enthusiastic and so wise beyond your years.
You guys are awesome. Good to see an elder getting respected.
So excited to see Ed's Golden Nugget get refinished by the experts! Thank You Robby, The Boss, and the Gang for sharing all the hard work and fun with everyone!
Whoever edited this video did such a good job. Love the videos please keep them coming! 👍
Anybody can take apart a puzzle. But can you put her back together again? I know I couldn't. Ha-ha! But I am sure you guys will have this Golden Nugget purring again in no time! Considering who you are doing this project for, and her history at the bottom of a river? Fascinating build to watch. Thanks for sharing! Awesome job you are all doing!
If you haven't watched the series of Paul working, in many places he said "I'm not gonna weld this..." or do something else perfectly, because it was coming to you.
He really is amazing, watching him work, imo.
Thank you for the update.
I guess it's good to finally let Ed in on the secret. Seems like the rest of the (RUclips) world knows about this...while Ed's still wondering if Paul got the engine unstuck finally.
Agreed; the paint and body work will be worth more than the car itself, lmao!!
Thank you al for your hard work, in general..
and thank you for so much love into this one project.
Honestly, there's not a way for me to get there, but you guys are the ones i'd want to do my bodywork on my E150 Wagon.
Thank you for your hard work, y'all are fabulous!!
Ed still doesn't know, as far as I can tell. He thinks he was picking the color to paint his 2WD off road ROKON motorcycle.
When I saw the thumbnail for this video I was thinking "what the hell are you doing Robby? You’re giving up the surprise reveal to Ed by choosing a paint color?" I should have known better......your video content creativity goes way beyond the auto body shop work/creativity you guys provide! It is an awesome experience to see all of you come together to restore the Golden Nugget for Ed!
The editing on your videos is fantastic. Love the camera work on this video too. Keep up the great work and we look forward to the final reveal!
Guess I never thought about how much work paint and body guys have to do, they literally go through everything the factory and the fab guys came up with. Then in the end make key decisions in having the machine become everything everyone in front of them intended for it to be, just the paint and body guys have to actually fix any small mistakes from everyone previous as well as figure out and find bushings, bearings, brackets and rubberies and in the end make everyone else shine while they only really get credit for the paint job everyone can see. Everyone definitely should appreciate you guys, really you do some awesome work. GOD bless and happy trails.
I love the channel, being in the industry for 30 years, you guys repair jobs how they should be done. Not many left in the country that does it correct. Thanks, and don't sale to a MSO. There's a smart individual in Tooele that is all mopar. Bob Johnson.
Been waiting for another golden nugget episode. Pigmat for the win, that stuff is a life saver. Thanks another great video guys!!!
Outstanding rebuild guys. You’re doing it right!
I've never seen or heard of a body shop going to these extremes to paint a vehicle!
Amazing I never realized for body work you would disassemble the entire car wow!!
The vehicle that caught my eye was the 1929 Double A tow truck, now I would love to see that wrecker restored and upgraded for rock crawling/recovery from same. Thanks for another update, you are getting there with the golden nugget, Ed is going to be super pleased, in fact it might blow him away when he eventually sees it. Thanks guys, stay awesome.
Hey Robby & Crew !! WOW !! What a transformation of the ""GOLDIE"" !!! Have a great week & KEEP ED in the dark !!!
From a UK fan, thanks for another great entertaining clip. You and the rest of the 'crazy gang' as I call you, MORR, Fab Rats and Trail Mater are my #1 subscriptions. The comradery between you all, and your employees, is magical.
You guys sure do a LOT of amazingly meticulous detail work!
I hope I'm not offensive when I ask why. I started watching Matt because I'm in a similar line of work, so eventually I started watching you building Matt's rigs, and wow! I can definitely appreciate a nice clean rig, but I didn't think I'd ever use "nice clean rig" and "off road recovery" in the same sentence.
I couldn't imagine paying the hourly rate of a high end body shop for absolute perfection on a truck that I intend to go rock crawling in. These things are some of the hardest working work trucks out there, and they're probably gonna be scratched and dented on their first job!
To be fair Matt's probably doing good on RUclips money, Robby likely gave him a good price and he gets to show off his amazing skills.
Who said that anyone was paying Robbie big money to do this. The RUclips exposure is paying big time.
@@delbutler885 ... there's a YT channel out there giving examples / estimates of how much $$ some people make on their videos. Matt is on the list, along with a few others I follow. You might be amazed how quickly the views add up to serious $$!
Rupe 53. All of the people that collaborate with Matt are picking viewers. Matt is helping them expand their channel. Putting the Golden Nugget rebuild on Robbie's channel will pay much more than just doing the work for some customers off of the street. The value of the internet exposure is huge and the parts and labor that aren't donated can be written off in the advertising Budget.
@@delbutler885 ... HUGE is a good word here. Matt is a smart businessman and you are right that followers (with their views) will more than fund the project. OTOH, I do have to say that spreading the wealth toother channels does make it difficult to follow the build, and of course it's time consuming due to scheduling of the various parties involved. Hopefully the job is finished while we are still young!
Attention to detail, a labor of love. Outstanding work for the whole crew.
It is so nice to see everyone on the TEAM involved and contributing to the Golden Nugget's build. These RUclips videos are SOOOO ENJOYABLE to watch. You guys are a blast to watch Thank you ALL for your efforts helping Ed ! "Nice People" are hard to find these days. Real hard. TEAM..... "Thanks for sharing your many talents with us".
I love the whole crew, dinner and hillbilly especially. They dont get enough love.
Thanks Robby and everyone for sharing another great video with us! I have a tip to share, when removing broken bolts. After you get the nut welded on and you get it to move that first micro amount stop and but some wax ( as in candle) on it instead of spray. There is a lot less smoke and it penetrates and lubricants the threads better. ( please try it at least once and give your opinion) 😎
You and your crew are so knowledgeable, love your channel
Looking good and it seemed to come apart "fairly" easily. Now the Golden Nugget and the Rokon will match perfectly.
I knew you would be cleaning up a lot of Paul's work......everything you touch is done right and I REALLY like that!! 💪💪
It is so easy for us to sit here and be excited about the golden nugget yet you and the team are having to do all the hard work. With you every step of the way you allow us to be. THANK YOU!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I can't wait to see this done. Its such a great thing that you all are doing this for Ed. Its pretty obvious you're a Mopar guy with all the Chargers and Chrysler metal laying around. I like the old and odd ball stuff and personally id love to see the AA back on the road. I have both a model T and an A in thier factory forms. I love the ton truck versions of those and yours just oozes coolness from the made-by-necessity nature of the tow apparatus. If anything Id like to see a detailed overview video of the truck if you don't do anything else with it. Keep up the good work!
Same I love to see a full period correct restore on the AA. Take it back to old school correct wrecker
@@MFCSTUDIOS Make it better then Matts new truck
I think we are well over $75,000 in recovery and resto. Headed for $100,000. This project epitomizes friendship towards ones fellow man by people that didn't know Ed a year ago. I pick Hillbilly for buddy in a Bar Fight.
Pick Dinner and you won't need to fight. I can't see anyone getting mad at him ever!
I just hope he can afford fuel for it when complete.
Robbie you and your team are quite a cast of characters well done ! Thanks for the nugget content fix!
I can't believe the level of tear down you guys did. Down to every nut and bolt. Very impressive.
This is a heckuva show Robby! It takes time and hands to tear these things apart and put em back tgethr
All you in them surprise all have so much of a BIG ❤️ for Eddy !
Ed's the man
The attention to detail by everyone working on this project is amazing! Do it right or don't do it! Now I know why resto's are so expensive! :)
Anytime I hear somebody ask why it's so expensive to paint a car I'm going to show them one of your videos.
well said shady
I hate when rust packs up in my nut!😆 You guys are doing such an awesome thing for Ed! Warms my heart to know there are such a great group of folks in today's upside down world! Salute Robby, to you and your whole team. From an old school Army Veteran in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
This is going to be the most overbuilt Suzuki LJ20 on the planet and it's awesome! Can't wait to see Ed's reaction.
And the back yard is a car guy's field of dreams. With all the prime project material (not derby cars!) I couldn't help but notice the clamshell Chevy wagon. Please tell me that's earmarked as a project and not a derby car. They're getting rare and desirable.
It's just so heartwarming watching you guys along with Paul and Matt's channels because other than your awesome talents, you can actually feel your respect & love for others(especially for Ed) and of course for what y'all do. 👍
Thank you to Bleeping Jeep for all the support on This project. You guys are all amazing , the way you all help each other and everything!
Robby, Everybody is just going above and beyond on this. I especially love the dad moments there. Cherish them whenever you can, The time passes soooo quickly. And to top it all off, you got Ed in the shop! Yea ED!
I've been following this for weeks!
Y'all getting so close.
Seems like "90% completed, 90% left to go!"
Can't wait to see it when y'all give it to Ed.
Cool video, way to sneak Ed in on the Golden Nugget. Gonna be great, and enjoy the tear-down and complete re-build and paint job. Awesome.
And thanks for bringing the cute baby into the picture.. enjoyed that.. (now with great grand children, always great to see the cuddly little ones again to bring back good 60's memories).
a small but functionally important design of the LJ that you will have missed. The heater fan pulled air from in the glove box...when the doors/flaps on the heater are closed the air was forced into the top of the bell housing and the distributor cap. this was to try to keep water out of the clutch and to keep the dizzy dry when fording water !!!!!
Everyone has so much respect for Ed his a real hit for everyone's videos. Thanks for another good video.
I can't wait to see Eds reaction.
This thing is going to be so cool.

This is going to look so good when you guys are done with it! Level of attention is fantastic. Great job guys.

Ed will be so surprised!!! Thank you all!!!
Great to see some progress being made on the Nugget. Seems like forever since Matt took Ed out in the woods to see it again after all those years up to days video. Throughly enjoying the whole adventure and can’t wait to Ed’s face when he finally gets it back. Looking forward to next weeks video.
How the heck, when you disassemble the entire vehicle, do you keep track of every bolt you take off?!! I get the baggies, but how do you remember the sequence of assembly? Blows my mind.
I'm with you! Usually I can remember if it's going to be a few days, but go beyond that and I start to forget in a hurry!
But remember, they ARE filming the whole process ;)
Two ways:
First: you have a well trained brain and know how to do a 3D puzzle in the right way.
Second way: you are a botcher
They have a whole bunch of videos of the disassembly to refer back to. They just watch them in reverse.
I am so impressed by you and your crew doing the Golden Nugget for Ed. Really a fine thing for you guys to do for him, and you're doing it better than I'd imagined was possible.

It is fun to watch guys enjoy this one so much. Great job guys and best wishes from Minnesota. Look forward to this journey
There must be retired Japanese assembly line workers that are amazed the Suzuki Golden Nugget is still hanging in there.
PS - Amazing that the scale of the vehicle lets your entire team manhandle everything!
I was always told that a clean shop is the sign of a sick mind!…..lol
I can’t wait to see Ed’s face when he sees the nugget all new and driving it again after all these years he’s going to be so happy it’s going to be really awesome. All you fellas working on Ed’s projects are really awesome.
Iv been following the Golden Nugget since the day she set sailed down the river and I have to say I am very happy to see Robby Layton going the extra mile . Can’t wait to see the outcome . Keep up the good work fellas .
Great episode, Robby! All of you guys have mad skills. It's great seeing Hillbilly and Dinner get more comfortable with being in front of the camera. Old Man Ernie is also a hoot. Keep up the great work...looking forward to seeing the Nugget build progress!

You guys are so professional, at the same time it looks like you’re having a blast, really entertaining and educational. Came from Matt off road and I’m enjoying all your content. Thanks for what you guys are doing for Ed. I can tell he’ll be so excited. God bless you Roby, your family and business.
Awesome ! Ed will be so overwhelmed.
Yall's banter is hilarious. It's obvious that y'all have worked together for a while. I really enjoy the camaraderie.
God, you guys just impress me every time you tear something apart, with your knowledge and attention to detail! And you are absolute craftsmen with metal, the way you straighten out the cab support brackets, with and without a torch. Loved your collection of project cars you ran through with us - just one question . . . What are you going to do with all your spare time???
I don't think they'll have spare time haha
You guys are gonna do an amazing job on the nugget going this deep I love it. I also love your project list of cars. I love them all! But I think you should do the metro van first. More useful for getting parts
Great work on this project! I really appreciate the attention to detail your team puts in on this. Ed is going to be amazed
I'm loving this crossover series because I wouldn't normally be drawn to channels like this and Fabrats, but now am really glad I found them. I'm learning alot, which is great because vehicles are the one thing I never really learned how to work on, and I wish I had.
Not only that, but I recently rented a 2019 Jimny on a trip and that was a lot of fun. They're still about as basic as this one. I think the only thing they've added is cruise control haha. It's an awesome little truck though. I was in Costa Rica, where even a lot of the public roads are surprisingly decent little off road courses in themselves, and that thing did great.
I chuckled to much at "you'd still be playing with your rubbers." Live the chemistry you guys have as a crew. Keep up the great work gents
