My Experiment NEW Live Bait Halibut Rig

- Fishing solo has its challenges. For me, its the struggle of only having one rod in the water and one bait. On this fishing trip I target California Halibut in San Francisco Bay using a rig I tied up and haven't seen anyone try before. It will allow me to drift three live anchovies at one time. This is my experiment, lets see if it works.

Piscifun is pronounced ( P-C-FUN)
Pretty sure it's derived from the family of fish- Piciformes. In zoology we always pronounced it "pis-eh-for-mes" so I've always pronounced the brand "pis-eh-fun". For being an import brand I've been really happy with the 3 different reels I've purchased from them!
Great video as always, thanks for sharing, your videos are very much appreciated, very informative!
Love your videos man, keep up the great work!
Great video; as usual, you have great videoing techniques. Also, love you experiment with different fishing techniques.
Love your videos man keep up the great work
Really nice set up Chris. Enjoyed the video. Alonso
I wanna try. Thanks for sharing.
hey chris! just tried out this rig on saturday 7/1 by Berkeley and it was catching the most fish. had two other buddies with me and they both had other rigs tied (single hook and hook with a treble). It was a nice little experiment and was fun to see it doing the best. will have to give it a go again later on. thanks for the info
Another GR8 vid Bro!!! Thnx much!
Always good to experiment. Great idea.
Chris, I learn something new, especially about CA F&G regulations, (boat limits, three hooks in Bay, etc.) with each great video. Please keep the videos coming.
Thanks
Great session👌
I thought about doing the same thing , putting more than one hook on a liter . Nice job Chris
Cool rig Chris!
Going to have to try this on the kayak! 😁
Sick rig!
I was told by a Captain on a charter boat that you were only allowed 2 hooks at a time when fishing for halibut.
Charters have different regulations than rec boats typically.
@@robertevans00 that makes sense since it is commercial
I actually really like that get hailbut and stripper on the same time lol more action for sure. Great video buddy quick limit nothing better lol
As a fisherman your brain is always thinking of how can you catch your limits quick ,specially when your fishing Berkeley you only have hours before the wind picks up and you have to call it a day good job Chris 👍🏼
Good job my friend thaks for share.
yah, ive done this off the pier and it definitely works. i had the best luck when i tied the rig with the top two fish close together so the one down below looked kinda lonely.
Might consider using a Sepps pro flasher rig and then one bait. The blades basically do the same thing . This rig puts out a load of flash and vibration which wakes up sleeping halibut and it also gives off a different pattern than just a dodger and bait. Looks more like a school of bait fish. Other consideration is a A-rig set up which works amazingly well on halibut.
Haha crazy rig Chris. Looks fishy for sure 😂
Thanks TLA!
The Chris-P-Three Rig!!!
Good job Chris guess you can't keep that as a Secret.. When I'm fishing live Bait I don't connect my trailer hook To the bait, I put a live anchovie on it
If you ever want another head on the boat I’m in Pescadero outside of Halfmoon bay. I just got a 20’ whaler your welcome on as well. My wife and I Enjoy your videos.
Hi Chris, I’ve been following your channel for quite some time that’s gonna leave. You can give me some directions where to get off and fish at the place that you’re fishing up on this video. Appreciate thank you so much.
Chris I just ordered “the kraken” electric fishing reel from pisifun, when it comes in july let’s go deep drop rock fishing! 😂
Nice video what’s your setup reel and rod ?
where in the sf bay were you fishing
What s the name of the bait shop you bought your live bait?
Chris, I'm on the east coast fish for stripers and fluke. I was wondering where you got those extensions for your Scotty's rod holders. Thanks for any info
They are from Reel Custom Boat Works in Stockton, CA. If you call them up ask for Jim and tell him you saw them on my boat. He will be happy to tell you about them. He can ship them to you and if you mention the youtube channel he should help you on the price. Thanks for watching from the EAST COAST!
Where did you pick up your bait from?
You might try a drop shot set up 😉, just reverse the weight and bottom hook, l think 🤔😊 it will work also!! Check ✔️✔️ your regs first, make sure it's legal!
Where do you get your live bait?
Hi there. What are those rod holders that are attached to the transom? Where did you get them? Thanks 🤙🏻
@socalsaltwateranglers they are from reel custom boat works in Stockton, CA. Jim the owner would be happy to answer any questions you have about them.
that s how i use to rig it back when i sports fish
Wonder if modifying a umbrella rig for live bait would work?
I have a vid using a umbrella rig, it worked
chris- how do you like the tailfin steering setup? Do you also use the itroll setup also?
both work great, recommended. Only thing is your kicker isnt attached to your main so it can be tricky to steer if windy.
@@ChrisPfish2 i wish that i can connect up to the main, but i can't because its on a different angle. So just wondering about the tailfin steering setup.
I see you always troll using the kicker, you must save alot of hours on the main motor.
thanks,
ken
Hey chris, I launch out of same harbor and basically drift same spot actually think i saw you last weekend by the moring ball at PCove. Fishing regulations for SF bay say one line with no more than 2 hooks not sure if im wrong but thats what i read. Would hate for you to get in trouble for that. anyway tight lines hopefully see you out there!
what is your source? were do you read sf bay regulations allow 2 hooks?
@@ChrisPfish2 I just re looked on fish and game it only states that for pacific halibut not California halibut. so i guess put as any many hooks as you can fit, more chances! Tight Lines and Calm Waters! 👍
@@alwaysadventure707 but you cant use as many hooks as you want. Its limited to three. Tight lines
Where is the local guy you get the bait from?
I bet next year when the bite is WFO Chris will catch more than 1 halibut on that rig of his
You no brookings oregon will have a salmon season this year and the bottom fishing is to die for
That’s what we use in the pier for years
Man don’t go solo. Hit me up. I live in the valley. I’d be there in a minute. Tight lines 🤙🏼
3 live baits must be better than 1😁.
If you ever need a #2 for more chovies in the H20, I'm your guy.
Hey that looked like a awesome rig, the only downfall I can see is that your using 3 baits and will probably waste 2 of the baits.
Good stuff if you want some real slow fishing come on up to Tomales
Do you ever take subscribers and or clients out?
I think there is a two hook limit for halibut.
correct if your talking about pacific halibut. These are california halibut.
So weed is recreational in CA
Yes has been
Bruh🤦🏻♂️
Interesting to see Keith selling live anchovies. Back in the day ( 25 years ) he sold only live shiners. The Bait Brothers in Sausalito sold live anchovies but going north of the bridge on an out going tide would soon kill them.
Unfortunately, no halibut were caught in this video. I hope you didn't mark your card. Those are petrale sole. Sorry.
false. check your eyes or your id card.
Waste of bait..
As a "professional" youtube fisherman and someone who does catch a lot of fish throughout the season, can you comment on why you feel compelled to keep barely legal fish (and, in addition, bring questionable keepers on board in the first place vs. safely releasing boatside)? Surely your freezer is full and/or your friends and family have also had their fair share so far already this season. You do reference the absurd gluttony, abuse, and lack of imagination that we'll call the 2023 South Bay massacre of 'tens of thousands' of fish already caught this year so you're aware of the impact in the wake of the salmon closure. The only logical reason why I presume someone with your command of our local species would keep a 22.01" and 23" halibut may be so you have some video content to peddle your wares. Still, painful to watch. Nice idea with the new drift setup though.
Rethink how you view this, keeping barely legal fish is much better for the ecosystem. Why should I be releasing legal fish to go for bigger ones? The big ones are the ones we want reproducing. Honestly its really stupid way your thinking. You think I fish every day or something. All my trips are in the videos. I dont think I have kept very many halibut this year. this was filmed on June 10. My previous halibut trip was May 13th when we got limits on the swimbaits. So screw you for calling me out for over fishing. You know nothing about me. I do not have a freezer full. I give fish to my family, friends and employees. I am getting fish for my wife and two kids. I have nothing to do with all the halibut getting caught and your an idiot for calling me out for taking 22 and 23 inch fish home when you prefer i let those go until i get some big trophys. Man people are dumb.
"fair share so far already this season"? I didn't realize DFW set a seasonal quota on halibut take for recreational fishermen. You should be honorary game warden and set up post at the launch ramps to make sure people don't fish more days than necessary -- wouldn't want your feelings to get hurt otherwise.
Yea Chris WTF! Stop massacring the Halibut 😂
I get dumbass comments all the time too bro. If you want to fish and keep legal halibut everyday of the week, not that you would, that is your legal right.
What “Joe” needs to do is voice his concern at the quarterly PFMC meetings and advocate for changing regulations.
Great video man keep them coming!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey now! Didn't expect all of these excellent reactions! I suppose that's what I get for posting my first youtube comment ever - lesson learned. The number of yahoos fishing on top of eachother getting ego limits and decimating entire schools/spots in
