Best powerbait setup for catching stocked trout

- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- I'm going to show how to setup a simple rig for bottom fishing with Powerbait. It's the first rig that I learned when I first started fishing. It's easy to tie and helps you catch more fish. We were using Powerbait fishing off the bottom.
Location: Foster Reservoir, Oregon
Rod: 6'6" and a 7'6" light action rod
Reel: Shimano Sahara 500FE, and Stradic FK 2500
Line: 4# mono fishing line - Спорт
Thanks for showing how to put a massive fishing hook & sinker combo..
Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.
This is why fishing is great. Really anyone can do it in spite of any challenges they may have. Great fishing, both of you.
Thanks for sharing your equipment. Planning to do some trout fishing this year
Thanks for keeping it clean:) cuz I watch it with my kid
he said fucking in the end lol
Patrick St 18:45? He said “if I can land him” not... fucking land him. Lol is that what you’re referring to?
Excellent fishing! I passed up on the corn yellow at Wally world the other day now I have to go back there and get it . Thanks a heap.
Set the split shot right next to each other so they don't tangle it will be less frustrating if you're fishing with kids
Shhh.
Love you're videos man. Been a subscriber for a year now. And you always give good tips. Keep it up. 👏🏽
Thank you for all the info and the tips.. Great video keep up the good fish you.
My grandma caught a 22 inch rainbow trout during our yearly camp trip down there. Super crazy!
Orange usually the color I go with and catches the most fishes with.
Thanks for the video! -Columbus,Ohio
What a great video. .I caught a 9 pounder today
just a quick tip for either of those rigs you will increase hookup rate significantly tying your hook on with a loop so that in the water its free to move. trout hit it way more aggressively instead of hitting and nibbling it.
Thanks. Will definitely try that out next time.
I like that background painting bro..
Great video, watching from Seattle
Great job. I haven't caught any fish this year.
i use a carolina rig and it works really well
19:32 has to be the coolest trout IVE EVER SEEN DANG AWESOME CATCH!!
Thanks for this.
How much line Depends on the bottom of the lake and weeds. Must be above the weeds.
Carolina rig works better than the first rig because on the first rig the trout will feel the weight and let go. Carolina rig the line will slip freely through the barrel and bead when the trout grabs it feeling no weight. Set the hook 💪🏼
First time watching, great tips
Thank you. Heading up to mammoth this weekend,
Should be a good time👍🏼
Thank you for the vid. I’m 12 and wanted to start trout fishing with my own setup an not my uncles. I am going to use the 2 split shots, since that is the easiest for me.
Casen Chandler good luck I started around that age also try rooster tails
Josiah Ropp my dad got me a couple rooster tails today
Casen Chandler Nice Panther Martin Blue fox They all work great
Great video PK! I am also a big fan of the carolina rig, just comes natural to me after bass fishing etc. I just have a quick question on your power bait colors. I am starting to increase my supply of different colors of power bait to always be ready to figure out what they're biting. My question is, what is the approx amount of time you typically give a color before you switch it up? Or do you prefer to try a different spot before changing your bait. I only have a 1 rod limit in my state so time is money.
I use a color for around 30 minutes-ish before I switch. Here in Oregon, we can use 2 rods with a 2-rod permit, and that helps me in pin point which colors they like. I've also noticed that locations are also color-specific. I wonder if that has to do with the hatchery feeding them different color foods? not sure .......... the mystery never ends
PK Yi thanks! I wish I had an option to purchase a two rod permit. It's not bad when my wife joins me so it gives me the option to figure out what's hitting quicker. However, most of the time I'm solo.
hi saw a lot of your videos from ocean fishing to this...Im in salem. are you guys by the boat ramp? Im just learning to fish and appreciate your videos. thanks,
Yup. Right by it.
thanks i watch a lot of your stuff and look up to you since im learning so much
@@oregonlife
Thank you
Nice Ankgor picture on your wall lol
Your so lucky bro i still haveint got my first trou9
Ultralight to light rod!! 4-6lb test line. 1/8 oz weight max(the lower the better. But it takes casting skill). 16 size treble hook. Any berlkey powerbait color(it floats!)!! TROUT LIMIT GUARANTEED!!!!
With a hook like that, you jest tighten your line and the fish, opens his mouth and the hook catches the side of the mouth when he makes a run. Got It?
Where are you fish in Portland.. buddy
Just curious what is the reason for the bead in front of the sliding weight? Thanks!
Protect the knot.
@@oregonlife Makes sense thank you.
I’m new to the fishing game, my son (8) wanted to go out, I hadn’t fished since I was 10-12, trolling for trout. Took him out the other day and we got skunked, want to avoid that again. Any advice on trout in lakes with a lot of vegetation on the shore/bottom? Tried our hardest to cast beyond the lilies and other water plants, but still no action. I’m up in Washington state.
For lake trout trolling, we use rooster tail, plus a Thomas buoyant spoon 1/4 oz. Trolling works best, I find, because you cover a lot more water. We troll the lure back about 25-30 feet going slow about 1-1.5 mph. going in a zigzag pattern helps too. Good luck.
Hi PK, I always enjoy your videos. I thought I had already subscribed, but I H A V E NOW!!! LOL... I fish Green Peter for Koke's and Bow's. I thought I recognized the scenery, so that's Foster by the bridge to GP, and it also looks like a boat ramp to your right? I'm curious, have you fished that water in April/May? When do they stock, and I notice it is VERY LOW many of the times I came down to fish GP. Is that NORMAL. TOO many questions. Hahahahaha. Tight Lines my friend.
Hi, Paul. Foster is drained in late summer and filled in around spring. It should start to fill up soon. Same with GP, but GP is already full now. 98% full. There is a boat ramp where I fished in this video, it's Calkins boat ramp. As for kokanee fishing, I just got into this year. Been out 3 times, skunked 3 times. I got a down rigger and hope that will help me. Cheers.
PK, we probably need to get together, and plan a Kokanee trip to GP. I have a 19' North River with (4) electric scotty's. MORE Kokanee gear than God, and I have been successful in the past. I'm busy with SPRINGER fish here in Portland for the next 2 - 3 weeks, but the 2nd week of May my plate starts to clear up. Let's stay in touch and share tips. I also go down to Odell lake, and jig / troll. The 25 bag limits are crazy and at the right times VERY easy to catch!!!! PK, my email address is : fishreader@gmail.com shoot me a message when you are free.
I just use a small teardrop sinker, a small swivel, and a small hook tied onto 2 feet length of 6 pound line. The 2 feet of line works perfectly and keeps the floating power bait off the bottom. Hooks that are overly small aren't great though as the trout usually ends up swallowing the hook.
I always use a rubber Power-ball on the top half of the hook and then a small pinch of Power-bail (the same size as the Power-ball) to save on Power-bail as the trout gets a taste the Power-bait and the Power-ball helps the Power-bait to float better as well.
If you want children to grow up enjoying how to fish, then keeping things simple when they are young is always the best.
Cleaning the trout is also far easier by the pond/lake as well and you can just throw the fish guts back into the water after the fish are gutted. Use a pair of heavy duty kitchen scissors cut open the trout and to cut off the trout's head and rinse off the trout after it's cleaned in the pond water. You'll be done cleaning the trout in under 2 minutes and no mess to clean up in the kitchen. Also grab a couple extra of those cheap plastic vegetable / fruit / bagel bags the next time you are at the grocery store as well. These cheap plastic bags are FREE and great for wrapping and storing the trout individually in the freezer.
...and when you pan fry the trout, cut the trout in two equal halves (tail section and body section) as the trout fits into the pan much easier and is much more manageable when it come to flipping the trout over when pan frying (less oil splashing all over the stove-top) and easier to serve the trout as well...
hi there,, when do you pull?? when they are nibbling at it? is it necessary to quickly pull to catch them???
You let them nibble at it to make sure they are really on there. I don't immediately set the hook, but wait for about 5-7 seconds so they get a chance to swallow the bait.
Where were you fishing at in this video? Some great fishing..
Foster reservoir, Oregon
Which size hooks are they?
Foster as in sweet home???
Looks like Oregon too
You are very lucky 💪💪💪💪💪
Whats the name of the weight?
What's the bead for?
Hi there, Is there a "go to' size for hooks when fishing for stocked or river trout ? Or does it vary ?
It varies a lot, mostly depends on which type of bait you use. Of course, there's personal preference too. On most occasion, I use a #8 or #6 hook for powerbait eggs. And I've seen people us a #14 or #12 treble hook for powerbait dough.
I have a bunch of 10's ....wanted to make sure they are adequate
Text book Oregon trout fishing--tight lines from Eugene, Oregon
Nice reservoir, what state is it in?
Oregon
Very nice, thanks for the reply
Thanks for sharing your information!with use new bees
Not sure my last post registered - Is this lake good for year-round trout fishing?
Yes, Foster Reservoir is good year round. A boat helps, but bank fishing is good too. I sometime fish at the dam on the rocks, but it can be very slick so be careful if you go down the rocks.
Thank you again - enjoy your videos - Peter R
That place on Foster looks nice and quiet - were you at Calkins Park area? Sorry for all the questions.
I really like the portrait of Angkor Wat. Are you a fellow Cambo as well???
Hey PK have you ever fished at St Louis Ponds
Yes. I've been there only twice.
Where do you think you will go fishing next???
*I love it **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I’m using it for my 1.0 Crankbaits and small Jerkbait. Paired with my Assassin. Works great, feels great. Would definitely recommend this setup.*
Helping your handicapped friend to keep his dreams and spirit alive, he may not remember what he did last week, but he'll remember this experience Forever! Great Job, You're Awesome!!! 👍😁
He’s just chilling with his dawg, you don’t need to demean him. Not that serious.
Great advice. For anyone listening keep in mind that the distance between your swivel and hook should be set up to match the area you’re fishing. Some areas have taller weeds than others and you should try to figure out how tall the weeds grow in the area you want to fish. That can make the difference between limiting out and getting a few bites.
The best part was seeing that you took your friend fishing! That is the best kind of love!!
I've fished trout since I was able to walk ..the easiest set up always wins
The limit for Mossyrock Lake, wa is 10, 8 inch minimum.
Thank you for showing an example on how to use the power bait.
I wasn't using enough.
Went fishing today and friends caught 3, 14 inch rainbow Trout. I... nope nothing in 8 hours.
the size of that hook i thought you was fishing for sharks
#8 hook, not too big
DarkRuto1 u must have never seen shark buddy
DarkRuto1 lol he did say he’s using a bigger hook for better presentation lol
He did say "I'm using a big hook swivel and weights to make it easier to see for the video"
Tell the truth and admit you Chum with corn.
I fish a stocked pond for rainbow trout. I set up my rig like this. I use 4# mono, 1/4 oz bullet weight, bead, and a #10 snap swivel. I make up many 10-12 inch eyed leaders with #6 salmon egg hook. The reason I do this, is after I catch the fish, I don't have to try and remove the hook and retie another hook. I retrieve the leader when I clean the fish later. I keep them in a 2x3" zip-loc baggy. I caught a 4.75# last year on this rig using 4# line.
Thanks bro simple yet effective, I’m going to try that set up tomorrow
I use the same rig on about 4LB test, but I use a smaller hook and I put a mini marshmallow and it will float off the bottom and a small night crawler or put a couple of kernals of yellow corn. Just use whole corn in the can. I usually limit out with 5 trout in about 2 hours.
Thank you great demonstration. With the use of bigger tackle ..appreciate it
Been using that split shot rig , it's fast and simple, my problem is the weather here in New Jersey, it's was 79 degrees and nothing was biting, used power dough, so I will try next weekend ,
Your videos are awesome ! Keep them coming ! Thank PK !!!!
Thanks for this video. I am new to fishing with reel and rod, when younger i used to do lots of underwater fishing in the ocean, now at 54 I figure it is time to start getting into it. Your video helps a lot, I have same ultralight rod and similar if not same Shimano reel, I am about to go to put it through the tests in the Colorado river section between willow beach Arizona and Nevada, just got the license too so will see if I can catch something; trying to work out a small tackle box for canoe fishing. I have the rainbow trout bait container and was wondering how to use it that is how I came to see your video. Cheers!
Why do you have rooster tails hanging from the wall
fishing is so awesome, its one of those things that disabled people can still do just as well and have a blast.
Hey PK ....you want to meet up at Los Vaqueros (Livermore) one of these saturdays ? I'm a newb and would enjoy learning a bit from you ...
Sqeeze it with your pliers not your teeth 😅 Ive been biting split shot on My line since 1976 😉👍 to be fair however My Dentist can see the damage 😜
I love the support you gave bringing your friend to get some trout. Beautiful trout btw, keep it up with the good work!
I really enjoyed watching your video, thanks for posting it
Most of the stocked trout in my area are usually closer to the bottom. 18inch + lead is too much. 6 to 12 inches off the bottom is the sweet spot. But my lakes probably aren’t as deep as most.
Great set up worked great today was actually my best for trout was wondering do trout bite at night in local ponds
Yes they do bite at night in ponds
I didn’t know you was Cambodian? I’m Cambodian too, I been watching you fishing but never subscribe you, now I subscribe you, me and my son plan to go trout fishing on our first time, please help us with some advice, thank you so much, love your video!
I don't do much trout fishing but after watching your video and your rig and bait set up...I'm changing that immediately! Thanks for the tips and fun video!
Man, your presentation and edit is one of the best ones I've seen on youtube for a fishing video.
Thank you!
@@oregonlife no problem! I'm a beginner and have been watching so many videos, it's crazy haha. Some are kind of boring and I can't make it through, but I enjoyed your video start to finish and learned a few things, too.
Fun video to watch. I have always rigged with a bullet or barrel shot, bead , leader and hook. Pretty successful but I think I’ll try the double split shot. Keep it simple, right? Thanks!
That hook is big for trout i use size 16 or 14 trouble hooks
Holy cow that's like the best day fishing 🐟 ever just knocking em dead.
If you're ever out near Bend man hmu! Would love to fish with ya! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing, love the painting behind you. I’m Khmer too.
Question. I plan on going off shore. Using night crawlers. What size hook u recommend
What if you tried using corn pops cereal? Have some snacks while you're fishing.
At 11:47 there was something in front of the camera 📷
What was that
Who brought the helium 7:38? Lol
So is it the same kind of setup for Trout Stream?
Dont need such a big hook. And the splitshots should always be touching and be about a 12inches from the hook. you will def tangle your line. Stock trout are more dif then wild trout.
rebels yell the big hook was used in the beginning to make the rig more visible.
@@thinkingimpaired5663 ahh ok gotcha
lets go fishing
Some guy just showed me this time today! Now I know it's a Carolina rig!
p k ល្អ ណាស់សំរបអ្នកស្ទូចត្រី very good for Fishman
I've always used my teeth though... 😆
that's not good
Dentist dont like that
nice backgrounds of arkor wat...im going fishing this Sunday
I’m new into fishing and the wording is the fishing manual is confusing to me😔 I’m very embarrassed to ask but I want to clarify the 2 pole validation is only for using 2 poles at the same time right? Like I can bring 2 poles out without one as long as there not both in the water at the same time right? Sorry I feel like this is a stupid question…😔
You can have as many rods with you as you want, but you can only fish with one at a time (line in the water). If you have a 2 rod endorsement, then you can fish with 2 rods at the same time. (Oregon regs).
Everyone I know uses their teeth to clamp down the split shot weight😂
Carolina
Thks so much again PK I really enjoy watching your videos, great info on fishing!
good learning

Are you forming your power bait as a small ball or worm shape?
That yellow powerbait Football you molded together was F'in HUGE! I don't even use half that amount. But you're always catching fish so guess I'll give it a shot. Good Stuff, Thx!
Enjoyed watching this video. Awesome catches!!!
You have to buy a separate license to use more than (1) Rod & Reel? That’s absolutely absurd for a lack of a better word!!!! But that was an absolutely awesome video bro. Looks like yall had an amazing trip out fishing. It’s awesome to have good friends and family to enjoy Gods amazing Outdoors.
Very helpful. Thank you!
What’s the point of the red bead? It doesn’t seem necessary?
Power bait is not working all the times
