This was such a blast in the cinema, especially the freeway chase. One thing I love is in the Merovingian's home every single painting and statue has his face on them. And he has an absolute ton of them !
They built a freeway section with high walls (not sure the length) specifically to do that long scene so they would not affect a normal freeway. Just amazing.
You have a good eye for filming and details. The Agent smith brawl scene and the insane freeway chase scenes were filmed at a decommissioned Naval Air Base station in Alameda CA. The production team actually built a 1.5 long freeway for this specific chase scene. General Motors reportedly donated over 300 cars for the scene to be used or destroyed while filming. Many of the visual effects techniques used in the first movie were becoming somewhat obsolete for the visual scenes the directors wanted to achieve in this film like the burly brawl sequence with agent Smith. So, the VFX team had to come up with new ways of digitizing entire scenes of people and buildings etc.. Sometimes using virtual cameras instead of real ones for the fight scene. In the end the Brawl scene cost about $40 million and nearly a month to produce.
Good knowledge. I grew up in Oakland adjacent to Alameda remembering the chase through "The Tube" or tunnel connecting Alameda and Oakland scene during filming and then fast forward to that "garbage" Matrix Revolutions film which was partially filmed in SF almost ruining my favorite coffee shop where the coffee shop scene was filmed in the movie up the street from my former job. "Revolutions" broke my heart.🤢💔😔😭

31:55 I want to point something out about _this_ part. It was not enough. They were stronger, faster and better. _This_ agent is an _upgrade._ So it should be stronger, faster and better _still._ Yet Morpheus holds his own surprisingly well. It's crazy bro. Especially considering that he got thrashed by Smith (when he was a normal agent) in the first movie. He got ALOT better with all context considered
Agent Smith being “Freed” by Neo just means now he is similar to Neo in that he can do ALMOST anything in the Matrix. But he still can’t leave. Unless you count taking over Bane’s mind and body and leaving through the phone. And I imagine he wouldn’t have to follow any commands given by the matrix’s Powers that be.
Not really freed. In my opinion, after being shot, Neo realized he is the one.... but still does not fundamentally understand it. He can tap into those powers but still lacks the knowledge that The Oracle or The Creator have of it. He used his newfound powers in an attempt to destroy the agent... but that is all it was, an uninformed and hopeful attempt at killing him. It did not go as planned and instead of destroying him it changed his "molecular" structure so to speak. The agent used to be bound by certain limitations put in place by the very system that created him but now that he was changed some of those restrictions were gone, now he could create multiple instances of himself and even move himself into the brain of freed humans to possess them. But still the agent is not 100% free to leave the matrix or to take over it and do as he please. That's why he was trying to possess Neo, to achieve total power.
I'm so glad you decided to continue down the rabbit hole! While not perfect, I think there's lots of cool aspects and ideas to Matrix 2 &3. Seeing someone experience these emotions for the first time is a treat!

Yes, Keanu Reeves did train for this as well. From what I hear he’s some kind of savant with martial arts and gun training. He picks it up extremely quickly.
He doesn't take a 3 day course before filming. He hires the best & spend months... Months, training day after day. Hard work & it shows. He's comfortable with the moves & they seem natural to him because they are. Not positive but it would be a good guess to say he now has a Black Belt in one of the Martial Arts, as he's never stopped his Martial Arts training over the years. & One of the reasons he doesn't have a body guard. You gonna get in John Wick's face & give him crap. Everybody should know better than to get pushy with John Wick, especially if he has a pencil in his hands.
Coby, regarding the scene where Neo and crew are walking to the elevator to board the ship and the Smith-infected human is stalking Neo with a knife ready to kill him. The kid that interrupts the attack to give Neo the spoon freed himself from the Matrix and credits Neo, but Neo says "I didn't save you, you saved yourself". The kid's story is featured in the Animatrix cartoon featurettes. So what happens in that scene is that one of the other "potentials" from the first film makes the kid promise to give Neo a spoon which saves Neo's life (so the other "potential" presumably can also see the future?), and so Neo survives entirely because of a kid who extracts himself from the Matrix on his own. Mind blown yet?
@30:48, we can thank the 2.25 km fabricated stretch of freeway that Debbie Evans rides on to make this stunt as in-camera as possible. (If you haven’t uncovered some of the behind the scenes)
He is. One of my best friends met him on the set of the "A Walk in the Clouds." She and her friend had been visiting the location every day -- he noticed, walked over and asked if they'd like a tour. Obviously, they said yes, and he took them around; it wasn't a short tour either. He was wearing sweats (or something) because he had a day off and he was sweet and genuine the whole time -- very down to earth. She was 18 at the time. Made her life.
One thing I like about this movie that probably doesn't fully translate too well is how everything within the matrix, especially the latter 2 movies, is computer code explained through action scenes. For instance, the scene where Agent Smith throws his hand through Neo's chest, he is ultimately rewriting Neo's code to become another Agent Smith virus. This is also why it feels like he's dying, because the code that represents his presence is being hacked. He is able to counter-hack, thankfully, because he is an established expert in the first movie.
The story gets a bit more convoluted in this one already, but I really don't agree with many people that the second and third Matrix are just cashgrabs, even if they can't be as mindblowing as the first one. This is a fun reaction to watch because you understand and engage with the themes! Can't wait to see the third movie.
I think people underestimate the importance of the second part. The first Matrix, of course, won us over with its novelty and deep meaning, but it was the second film that explained to us HOW the Matrix works. From the dialogue between Neo and the Architect, we learned how the Chosen One appears and what his role is, as well as why the machines destroy Zion every time. So the second Matrix is the key one in the trilogy.
Imagine being in the threater when that to be concluded popped up knowing you had to wait. Thankfully they filmed these together and the wait was only May to October, but man it was still a brutal wait!
For you Ducatistas out there, the bike used in the movie was a 2001 996. By 2003 when the film was out, ducati ran a limited edition matrix reloaded 998. Something like 391 were made in matrix green.
31:44 The call "one-adam-12" goes back to an old TV show, from the late 60s and early 70s, name Adam-12. Every episode, they would get calls on their police radio starting with "one-Adam-12, one-Adam-12 ..." For example .... ruclips.net/video/c0AA512JINQ/видео.htmlsi=EGGzFAYV1B3Zm4wa&t=88
I'm not sure if it's been said, but the matrix always has a "green tint" and the real world is more grey. He def trained for this and I think Keanu said this is what sparked his interest in doing alot of his stunt work. The guys he's fighting when they picked up the key maker are called exiles old programs. They are stronger than agents.
43:14 "If the Matrix is all code and programming and that's why he can, like, beat it, how can he beat reality?" Now that's a very good question. It has interesting implications for the nature of reality, don't you think?
If you can find the DVD Extras, they actually built the Highway of Death as an outdoor set! It was pretty fantastic set building to see.. Love your reactions, I gotta say..
Oh lord you are just too much not only do you know a shed tonne about decent films, you genuinely enjoy them you too, and you know motorbikes, my mind is slightly blown out 😂😂😂 you have a new sub just because I like your take on good stuff!
Neo being one of the potential "Ones" meant that he was altered so that he could handle the "One" code. Remember the Oracle telling him he had the "Gift," but he was waiting for something. Waiting for what? His next life, perhaps. He activated that code when he died in the first movie. In this movie, he is uploaded with the additional "Source" code when he goes to the Source. That code has everything necessary to reboot or reload the Matrix, and basically has the effect of connecting him to the machine world, like a wifi patch in his brain. This is how he is now able to sense the sentinels and shut them down.
My guess as to how Neo was able to stop the Sentinels at the end: he temporarily became a living, breathing mobile hotspot. No, I'm serious. The Matrix can obviously be accessed wirelessly or Zion ships wouldn't be able to send their crews into it. The Matrix is in turn connected to whatever network exists between all the machines. Neo's experience as The One gave him a unique intuition for the nature of thought and signals. So, Neo temporarily realized some huge, fundamental truth that enabled him to wirelessly hack into the Matrix without any hardware. From there, he hacked into the machine network and used that to overload the Sentinels.
Some stuff to make it less confusing with the architect etc. I will explain the machine stopping outside the matrix in the end part. Matrix 2 is much more complicated, but once you the theories and ideas. It elevates far more. Smith was a program for the machine to get rid of anomalies in the Matrix. Thats why Smith was so driven to destroy Neo, he wanted to be free from Matrix because he is stuck there. Think of it as a intelligent program that can think on its own. So Smith wants to clean the matrix and then his purpose is done and he will return the the source (the machine mainframe) where all the not needed programs get to and face deletion. Thats the purpose of agent smith. However when neo destroyed him, he changed his code because he can change parts of the matrix. This meant that he was cut from the source and machines no longer could delete him, because his code is not recognizable and he became an anomaly himself. Thats literally what neo is, an anomaly in the matrix and he changed Smith which made him an anomaly. Thats why he could not be deleted after Neo destroyed him. Smith returned as no longer part of the system (hence why he refers to Neo that he set him free). Smith is now no longer controlled, but he still strives after his purpose of destroying Neo in search of freeing himself from the matrix (since he is still just a program and not wired to the system). Smith is a just a program and his code cant be changed by himself so the only way he can increase his power to fight Neo is to actually copy himself. He does this by taking over other programs and makes copies himself. Architect was created by machines to make matrix. Shortly he tried various variants of the matrix which eventually was leading to failiures because humans are not easy to control does not matter which type of world hell or heaven he created an anomaly that is The One eventually emerged. Thus he came to conclusion that this is mathematical equation that is the remaining unsolved part of big mathematical equilibrium. This problems arise because there is element of choice involved which is unpredictable. Stuff like when neo choose to stop and fight Smith in the train despite knowing he would die. This are types of stuff that architect can not solve with logic. So machines instead decided to create another approach. The Oracle. She is another program created by machines similar to the architect to instead study human psychology and see why humans choose as they do and how to create a harmonic world where humans would live without questions. But the oracle grows liking towards humans, sort of like a sympathy. She always knew Neo is the one, one could even guess that Neo becomes one only because she gave the code of the one via the cookie she gave him. Meanwhile Smith is becoming increasingly more problem for the machines, because he is taking over the programs in the matrix and the machines cant delete him. He even manages rewrite the brain of human connected to the matrix. As for why neo could stop the octopus machines outside the matrix. Its because he entered the source with the key, he is now wired to the matrix without a plug. Think about it as a wifi connection to the matrix. Since he is connected to source and the machines, he can feel them with slow wifi connection and even affect their system. Hope this helped to understand a bit more since Reload is a bit confusing. Third part will be a bit easier to understand, but it will be much easier to follow if you fully understand whats going on in the second.
Excellent writeup @Stockfish1511 the complexity of this movie was the reason I saw it twice in as many days in the theater. 2nd time was to listen more closely to the key conversations.
The cast trained for a year, 18 months. It was a two year process for matrix 2 and 3. Also the scene with the key maker on the freeway, they built 2 miles of freeway for the movie.
I saw that lol.. that moment when Neo flew away from all the agent smiths, and you said "y'all can't do that.." and for a sec you thought maybe they could do that.. lol because I did the same thing 👍
Neo's interaction with Smith ended up breaking his programming in an unexpected way. He was nolonger bound by the confines of the system's rules, and found that he could reformat or consume other programs and patterns. He reformatted Bane, the dude with the goatee, and was trying to overwrite his mind in the real world.
Neo disconnected Smith from the Machine System at the end of the first movie, and with his already fragmenting code, he ended up turning into a virus; one that can overwrite any code connected to the Matrix. The guard the Merovingian's wife killed was a Werewolf, as was the other one. And the Twins are essentially ghosts. They're all from the Nightmare version of the Matrix Smith talked about in the first movie. Seraph, meanwhile, is an Agent from the Paradise version. Edit: The thing that took me forever to understand was the Oracle is still a part of the control. She's staunchly a Matrix supporter. She propagates the Prophecy of The One through each iteration of the Matrix. The people released to the new Zion are told of the Prophecy, and they spread it to their children and the new Red Pills. But since it seems to take decades, maybe even centuries, (remember the Councilor was 11 when he was unplugged), the Prophecy has time to properly grow and take root. (Edit: I mean, I knew the Prophecy itself was a form of control, but I still thought the Oracle was pushing for Mankind for her own reasons.)
Hi Coby Here are some film suggestions for you to consider : The hitcher (1986, thriller) Retroactive (thriller, sci-fi) The killers (1964, crime) Dr. Strangelove (claasic dark comedy) The mouse that roared (comedy) The party (comedy) The cheap detective (comedy) The ladykillers (1955, classic comedy) Papillon (drama) Wolf creek 1 and 2 (horror)
It's important to remember that Neo is technically a cyborg. He was changed by his visit to the Source. Neo is the first One to ever choose the door back to the Matrix. He was never supposed to return. After he came back, he could "feel" the machines. He tapped into the Source to stop them but the effort of doing that put him in a coma.
Concerning Neo, I always thought he was computer code sent into a human body to live as one of them so he could complete the equation - a reverse messiah. We see the Smith code was able to enter and control a human body. I guess it was a matter of time until the anomaly was realized fully since we understand it was the result of two separate programs - the architect created what the Oracle designed.
Erm, actually ☝️🤓 He's not "technically a cyborg," he is figuratively a cyborg. He has a connection to the machines like a cyborg, but he lacks any cybernetic body parts.
@depastin0 The reason for my comment was that I thought you misspoke and had confused the words "literal" and "figurative". I see now that there was no confusion, and you just simply don't know what you're talking about. Thanks for the clarification.
@@slowprodigy I never used either of those words, I know the difference between them perfectly well, and I would argue that Neo is LITERALLY a cyborg anyway, as he DOES have "cybernetic body parts". All red pills do. You watched the movies, right? You saw the implants all over their bodies?
At the end, When he entered that door "the source" he became basically connected to the machines. Like he got the wifi password when he went thru the door and is connected to the same router as the machines now. That's why he could "feel them." ...in the 3rd matrix is him being able to see everything that's connected to the same router. All which is connected to the machines or however its easier to understand.
"Finding Nemo" actually beat this movie in Box Office returns when the 2 films were released to movie theaters in May 2003. I still remember the front cover headline in Entertainment Weekly that read "Nemo Beat Neo". Very clever!
Neo defeated Smith at the end of the first film by jumping inside of him and exploding. Instead of killing Smith, it somehow gave him the ability to make duplicates of himself by copying himself onto others inside the Matrix including other Agents. Now, a copy of him exists outside the Matrix in the physical body of Bane. And Bane is lying next to Neo seemingly also in a coma...
Would like to point out that Carrie-Ann Moss's superhero fall-land-thingie at the beginning of the movie was-and-has-been way cooler than any other superhero fall-land in any comicbook movie to date. The outstretched leg is awesome. That's all. Just the outstretched leg. That makes-or-breaks it and it made it.
On your comment about wanting to watch it 20 years ago: Do that! What I mean is revisit movies that you saw as a young person in some years from now. It can be an interesting experience. I recently watched Taxi Driver which I saw when I was 16. I'm 55 now and it was a completely different experience.
The first three Matrix movies came before all the John Wick movies. It was Keanu's stunt double from these movies that went on to direct the John Wick movies, hence the reason for actors to be in both franchises like Laurence Fishburn and the Key Maker in this being the Continental's doctor. The fourth Matrix movie was greenlit after John Wick 3 had been made. At one point the plan was for Matrix 4 to be made, Keanu was then going to go straight into making the 4th John Wick movie since he would be in good physical shape after getting in shape for the Matrix 4 fights. Then both movies were scheduled to come out the same weekend. Once people realized that both Matrix 4 and John Wick 4 were scheduled to come out the same weekend fans were saying they were planning on taking the Friday of the release date off and marathoning all three Matrix movies, the three John Wick movies and then going to see the fourth movies of each franchise back-to-back in the theater over the weekend. Unfortunately, during filming of Matrix 4 the pandemic shutdown filming of Matrix 4, which ended up pushing back production of John Wick 4 as well and the movies came out in different years.

You gonna get in John Wick's face & give him crap. Everybody should know better than to get pushy with John Wick, especially if he has a pencil in his hands.
You'd be surprised by the crazy 🤣 thoughts and theories after I saw this in the theater 🎭 it was a fun decoding conversation on the way home.
17:00 "Can't he do more The One Stuff" 😂😂😂
The highway scene was shot on a purpose built set. They didn't shut down any California highways to shoot that.
Animatrix is a must watch along with playing Enter The Matrix if youre a big fan :)
@30:48, we can thank the 2.25 km fabricated stretch of freeway that Debbie Evans rides on to make this stunt as in-camera as possible. (If you haven’t uncovered some of the behind the scenes)
Everybody loved Laurence Fishburne coming to John Wick as the Bowery King, but the Keymaker was the Doctor from day one.
Off-topic, but I love that Keanu is such a genuine sweetheart in real life.
"Batman to all points, I could use some air support, since I can't fly. At all." - RIP, Kevin Conroy.
Funny little fact about the key maker is that the actor also played the continental doctor in John wick series
8:48 remembering Suits instead of Firefly... means you didn't know Firefly
It's so easy to sit back and vibe with you watching these movies!!!
For you Ducatistas out there, the bike used in the movie was a 2001 996. By 2003 when the film was out, ducati ran a limited edition matrix reloaded 998. Something like 391 were made in matrix green.
I came for Coby’s RARR’s and smile… stayed for her predictions. lol 🔮 Always a pleasure! 😎❤️🔥
I heard that whole car chase/freeway sequence took a year to shoot lol
32:47 "go kick his ass"
Nope. It took a year to plan it, and they shot it in 7 weeks. They also built their own 1.25 mile (2km) long stretch of the highway.
@@_nopestr that could be it, I knew it had a year in it somehow lol
38:00 " keep it down" wow thats really a thing.... gl, thanks for being a real human being
31:44 The call "one-adam-12" goes back to an old TV show, from the late 60s and early 70s, name Adam-12. Every episode, they would get calls on their police radio starting with "one-Adam-12, one-Adam-12 ..."

Just thought you should know that I really love how you branded your channel. Baddass logo and naming.
thank you !! We're still finding ourselves and fine tuning with the help of you all here on YT and your input !
Matrix: green tint
Real World: blue tint
Hi, Coby. Loved the Star Wars reactions. This must be just as fun.
"Poor key maker he had such a big day" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh lord you are just too much not only do you know a shed tonne about decent films, you genuinely enjoy them you too, and you know motorbikes, my mind is slightly blown out 😂😂😂 you have a new sub just because I like your take on good stuff!
thank you !!
Neo went down the rabbit hole in the first movie. The question is, HOW DEEP IS THE RABBIT HOLE?
That single sided swingarm on the Ducati is just 👌
They did film the freeway scene in CA, near SF I believe, mirrored 101
Fun watching this with you. You are in for some suprises with the next one. Wont say more than that. :D
Keep.going, 2 more to go. All are brilliant
Your attention to detail and knowledge, amazing!
It's simpler than this as his body still contains machine implants.
Your accent is criminal. Love it! :D
What a genuine reaction! I'm new to the channel. Love the channel name and you seem like good fun people. 👍
my leg hurt watching yours stuck for so long on the couch :D
Coby, I love your "hee hee"s 🤣🤣🤣
The cast trained for a year, 18 months. It was a two year process for matrix 2 and 3. Also the scene with the key maker on the freeway, they built 2 miles of freeway for the movie.
40:54 I just thought, Neo hitting her at this speed to catch her would probably break her back or something.
As a Native American, Morpheus shouting "WE ARE STILL HERE!" hits different
That's an allegory for this story I hadn't thought of before, but it's amazing.
Damn, you recognized the Ducati quickly. I'm impressed!
loved watching your reaction coby..your little click wink is sooo cute x nite nite from Belfast

Yes, so excited you did this!
Another great reaction! I can't wait for you to see the third one.
Hi Coby
Here are some film suggestions for you to consider :
The hitcher (1986, thriller)
Retroactive (thriller, sci-fi)
The killers (1964, crime)
Dr. Strangelove (claasic dark comedy)
The mouse that roared (comedy)
The party (comedy)
The cheap detective (comedy)
The ladykillers (1955, classic comedy)
Papillon (drama)
Wolf creek 1 and 2 (horror)
I'll definitely second the motion for Dr. Strangelove.
@@slowprodigy The implants are machine parts, embedded in his body that enable him to interface with the Matrix. So, cyborg.
At the end,
When he entered that door "the source" he became basically connected to the machines.
Like he got the wifi password when he went thru the door and is connected to the same router as the machines now. That's why he could "feel them."
...in the 3rd matrix is him being able to see everything that's connected to the same router. All which is connected to the machines or however its easier to understand.
It doesn't matter what wifi passwords you have if you have no radio.
Really cool fun fact by the way, they actually built that whole freeway for that scene
Instead of killing Smith, it somehow gave him the ability to make duplicates of himself
by copying himself onto others inside the Matrix including other Agents.
Now, a copy of him exists outside the Matrix in the physical body of Bane.
And Bane is lying next to Neo seemingly also in a coma...
I said I would never watch the sequels again, but I'll watch your reaction. :)
Hilarious that Coby instantly totally keys in on the fatal flaw of having THE ONE get nerfed and the upgrades.
Your face is so expressive! So fun to watch! 😊
Can’t wait to watch this later before I go to bed and I’m thinking Coby is gonna love it
You should see the 2003 MTV Movie Awards opening, it’s a spoof of Matrix Reloaded
Love watching your reactions ❤
Thank you so much!!
In the video game path of neo, an upgraded ability lets you block bullets and shoot them back at the agents
