I have always respected how you vlog Adam. It is unlike any one else. You give the audience the opportunity to actually SEE what they’re looking at, and you don’t just jump cut around. Keep on keeping on my dude.
My kids which are 8 and 4 really love watching you. They go around the house saying this is Adam the Woo and join me shall you 🤣😂. Your better than what's on tv.
The Dam at Disney was the site of the drowning of Ward Mohs. Mohs was an umpire in the Kansas Oklahoma Missouri league. That is the same league where Mickey Mantle started his career in 1949. Mohs began his tenure in the KOM league in 1946.
Well he really committed to that running home bit! lol thanks for sharing, I love seeing these little old towns! Skipping rocks like Andy and Opie, a nod to some Mayberry goodness!
Wow! Some serious throwback for me here! I was in that area almost 10 years ago. Stayed further north but came down to the Dam and took the tour. Had lunch at that very park in 2:53.
If they had driven a little further down the road they would have been in Tiajuana, OK. . About fifty years ago Disney was a nice little town to get your bait before going to Little Blue. On the other side of the dam we used to stop in at Doc's Bait Shop. Sad to see it that way, but I bet there are still a lot of good people there.
I remember all that. Had some great times at LIttle Blue. I was friends with the man who worked at Doc's, I can't remember his name now but he always had the lowdown on what was going on in the area, it was always my go-to bait shop. I remember one time when the river below the dam was really flooded down towards Strang, and he told me about "cow patty catfish'. The flooded cow pastures were full of catfish feeding on the worms under the cow patties. The water was only a few feet deep and you could see channel cat tails sticking out of the water rooting for worms. All you had to do was put on some hip boots, put a nightcrawler on a hook under a bobber set about 1 foot deep and they would slam it. It was like bonefish on the flats in the Bahamas. We slayed 'em for about a week that way.
@@RhettyforHistory Yeah, I picked up on him during his trip across the west end of Oklahoma and have been with him ever since. We seem to have traveled the same roads so many times. Pop over on my website www.jimforeman.com and look under cycling for a story about following Custer's March Route when he was searching for the winter camp of the Cheyenne. That was a fun bicycle tour.
Also just north of Disney off rt66 is an abandoned town called Picher. That is also a must stop. It had to be abandoned because of the over mining of the lead/zinc mines all over the area 30-100 years ago.
That is Pensacola Dam on the Neosho River. It forms Grand Lake `O Cherokees in northeast Oklahoma. It is the largest man made lake in Oklahoma. OK-28 runs over the top of the dam, and there are two flood control spillways just to the east of the dam. These two spillways flow back into the main channel of the Neosho River on the south side of the dam. I know that town well. I live up the lake and have been in Disney many times.
Disney is a great little town with lots of great activities for nature lovers. I’m from OKC and Disney is one of the preferred spots in the state for camping and 4 wheeling.
We would cross the dam going east to the Dam Hotel...the kids loved that joke. Then go down to Little Blue Park. Good to know the ice cream place is still there...lol
that is a town we in Oklahoma like to call a wheeling town... If you would have been there one month later it would have been crawling with 4wd vehicles for the Big Meat run.... Close to 15,000 people show up and have one hell of a time.. I go almost every year..Lots of fun. It's an awesome town. Where you were skipping rocks is an obstacle called "Lil Blue" Lots of crawlers crawl up it and put on a show!
That dam is called the Pensacola Dam an is the longest multi arched dam in the world. When I was a kid in the late 90's, there was a little tackle shop by where you first started that had pictured of the construction of the dam in the 1940's, I believe. You missed a chance to go below the dam on the side that you started on. You could've got a close view of the dam and its size from down there. It's pretty wicked to think that there's a monster lake on the other side of it. As a kid, I used to contemplate the scary thought of the dam giving way, while I was fishing down there. They also built a golf course down there.
It may not look like much now but from April through October Disney, OK is a happenin' place. Grand Lake is a massive reservoir, paradise for any kind of water sports. It's very lush and green, trees grow down to the waterline. My parents had a lake home there for many years. And yes, when they open those flood gates in the spring where you were standing it's a raging torrent of water. I could tell stories for hours about that lake. They have a riverboat that runs tours on the lake including night cruises. It used to be popular with nurses from a nearby mental hospital, we'd do the night cruise with those nurses and rarely went home alone. Well, I'll stop there and just say thank you very much Adam for taking me back to some very fond memories.
Awesome that you made over to Disney! Grand Lake is incredible. You should have come in the summer when everything is open. In the winter it’s dead as a door nail.
This is awesome to see, I spent many summers in that area. Great fishing there below the dam, or at least it was back in the 90s. Thank you for your vlogs and inspiration to do what I’m doing now.
I spent a lot of summers just outside of Langley, on the other side of the bridge. I can remember when all those stores were open! There will be change!
OMG! That Hurdy Gurdy looked like it could kill, but you did manage to get a ride... there was one in the local park when I was a kid. The road over weir was in need of repair, as were most things but the 'Disney Springs' area would be lovely in summer and water was so clear. All very interesting, thanks Adam.
So glad you found Little Blue or "Disney Springs" lol. That's a beautiful spot and so fun to swim in the summer. Grand Lake has a lot of cool places all around it.
You could have had a coney at the Sonic on the other side of the dam in Langley. You should have visited Salina, Strang, Spavinaw and Cleora, the other HUGE tourist attractions in that area. Visited the Crooked House back in the early 80's and it was interesting.

Oh wow! At the beginning you are on the highway I took all the time from my home in Tulsa to my grandparents lake house near Langley on Grand Lake (Langley is right across the dam from Disney). What a surprise to see you start the video at the Crooked Little House. Sad to see it closed. Used to sell peanut brittle and the like there back in they day. Right off I-44, west of Adair. Looks like Luther's (classic hole in the wall, take-away diner, in Adair) has closed, too! In Langley, just across from Disney, Frosty and Edna's (local diner) has gone to different management and is called Ailey's, I just read online. Used to be a cool arcade and restaurant called PJ's in Disney, too! Pretty sure that was the building by the rusty sign. Guess it's gone now, too. How sad. All my childhood haunts with my grandparents are going by the wayside. At least Pistol Pat's is still open. My grandpa, my siblings and I would sometimes walk around on the rocks below the dam. Disney and the lake towns are mostly summertime places, which is why Pistol Pats was closed. I know everything looks run down and in Disney it really is, but if were to drive around the lake just a few miles from there you would see half a million dollar and million dollar plus mansions on the lake front everywhere. The lake extends for many, many miles north from there, as that is the extreme south end of the lake. Go back in the summertime and you will see much more activity, including hundreds (or thousands) of people out on the lake in their boats. Grand Lake is the premier recreational lake in NE Oklahoma.
We had a family reunion down that way only on the North side of the river. If I remember correctly there was hardly any water in the river the Summer we where there. A pretty area as much as I remember, It's been many years.

What you wouldn’t know by looking at this town is that the lake being held by that old dam is one of the most prestigious lakes in the country. Pensacola Dam and Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees. Fun. I'll admit I logged onto Zillow fully expecting to see house prices below $100k. SURPRISE. California prices? California prices for homes on the river front?!?! It must be mighty fine fishing along that river. Shots along that creek were quite nice.
It’s not a River, it’s Grand Lake.
I would assume there's much more activity in the summer when the lake is full of tourists.
Lake Spavinaw. Tulsa's primary water supply. It used to be a popular place, until they opened Skiatook Lake.
