    Gracie (cat) just completed her 14 day monitor. What a great way to get a good reading of her glucose numbers. Catching her diabetes early I believe made a big difference. Cost was well worth it and will do another monitor followup in 6 mos.. have your vet apply. I like to stay on good terms with my girl.😊

    The new ones take 60 minutes to be ready. This is wonderful thing.

    I would like to see you place it on a cat patient. Our cat newly diagnosed 4 days ago. We’ve been doing at home BGM’s with the AlphaTrak. I would love to use the continuous monitor. Thanks Good video.

    This works with androids as well. My dachshund has one and it has been fantastic and I wish they had it 5.5 years ago which is when my dog was diagnosed w diabetes. Saves us from having to stick him to check his sugar levels because it would break our hearts to be poking him. If you have the means to buy this device for your dog it's 65.00 and will be so so much easier and no guess work about your animals glucose levels at any given time. U won't regret getting it!!

    U put the back of the phone towards the sensor. He shows it by doing front of the phone. We have ours set to vibrate once then to make a beep and then the reading pops up on phone. I am using a cheap Android phone so that my husband and I don't have to use our note 20 ultras and we always pass it to one another for whichever one of us is at home and will be doing the readings. It's so nice because it sends all readings to our vet via email and she gives us recommendations and just monitors our dogs glucose patterns

    I am a diabetic myself (type one) and I have been on the dexcom CGM for years now. I recommend to my local vet to try this, he has never heard of it. My diabetic dog now has it on her. My question is, are there alternative locations for placement, such as the stomach? Can you give a recommendation on the medical skin adhesive, how to remove it after the 14 days, and a good shaver to get a really good close shave? The ones that are sold at petsmart, Walmart, etc all seem to do a really bad job, any type better over another? Not sure if you have the name of a good grooming shaver? Thanks!!

    Is this an animal version you’re using or is the one for humans ? Also if it’s for humans is there a difference in the readings? I know when I used a glucose reader it was calibrated specifically for cats ? Thank you

      Freestyle has not approved it for pets - these are made for humans. They have saved my kitty's life, as she has an unusual glucose pattern and thin rolly veins (like me!) that make blood draws near impossible.

    Does the actual needle remain in the pet or does the needle inject the monitoring strip?

    • @laurelparker3171
      @laurelparker3171 6 месяцев назад

      No, a tiny very flexible fiber remains. My cat never notices it nore the injector.

    My cat just use this in aug 2024. However there is an error on both sensors. Important to pets owner Abbott will not provide replacement if it is used on pets.

    Is this the same Freestyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring system used by humans or is it specially calibrated for animals? Can it be used for cats?

    • @mariaalejandracaicedo4404
      @mariaalejandracaicedo4404 5 лет назад +4

      Yes it is the same Freestyle made for humans. It is not calibrated specifically for dogs or cats.

      You can buy patches made to ensure they stay on, but many people use a tee shirt ( I recommend making sure it is snug fitting). And for cats, who are much better at removing such things, vets are using Thundershorts. I use a sweater or long tee shirt sleeve I cur armholes in on my cat, so that is an option too.

    What kind of extra adhesive did you use?

    • @laurelparker3171
      @laurelparker3171 6 месяцев назад

      I use false eyelash adhesive as my pharmacist had no idea what I was asking for and my vet liked that solution. It works fine and is both secure and gentle on skin

    • @AlliesMom29
      @AlliesMom29 3 месяца назад

      Use skin tac. They are wipes that create a barrier between the skin and the libre adhesive and help it stick. You can use brava spray to remove it.

    My Australian Shepherd is very clever and can remove the sensor no matter where the tech puts it. Yes, I agree, the tissue glue is dangerous and many say NOT to use it. But the vet does. My Aussie has removed his after 4 or 5 days. Many times. I’m throwing money away, too. Maybe because his very thick fur grows in??? I’m paying $77 for a sensor and $15 more for a tech to apply it. Sometimes the sensor just stops working. We are afraid to just “GUESS” how much insulin to give. His dose is 8 or 4 units. Well, how are we supposed to know which it is? We are supposed to skip if it’s too low. Again. Just guess?? I think not. Somehow, this sensor has to stay on. It came off today, day 5, and I haven’t removed the glue yet. He is scratching it like crazy so I’m going to get my GooGone Adhesive Bandage remover before he brings blood to the surface. We are in San Antonio and it gets HOT. SO a T-shirt is probably not going to be a choice. If anyone has an idea, please let us know. Thank you. Very cute doggie!

    Manufacturer strictly advises no glue of ANY type! Been using these on my dog and they never come off if the area if properly prepared.

      Do you put anything over it like you can for a human?

    • @laurelparker3171
      @laurelparker3171 6 месяцев назад

      I have not seen that but all vets use glue. Not all over it. Dots on the frame of the libre. Also there are bandaid like patches to put over them. I use false eyelash glue

    • @laurelparker3171

      Vets learned to use Thundershirts with cats because they do easily remove them. I've listed other methods I use successgully with mine in other comments

  • @joyceepassos
    @joyceepassos Месяц назад

    Do not use on pets. The sensor is simply of extremely low quality, mine stopped working after less than 24 hours of use.
    Support informed that because it is for animal use, it is not covered by warranty. Money thrown in the trash.

    • @laurelparker3171

      It sure does, if you do your research and learn how to apply and use it. It has saved my cat's life. Get a Thundershirt if you need to. Vets who know send them home in them.
