What's next ? How to cover holes in carpets after you've drilled through them ? Or after you've accidentally cut through ? I've totally not done that to my floor while doing some DIY inside ...
Spoiler alert: Saying "Don't worry, I turned off the flippy thing so the electricity won't flow" is a great way to ensure that any dad listening in will immediately rush to your location :D
Not a dad, but I tell a lot of dad jokes, and I would be immediately running in your direction with a voltage tester. The switch will turn off the power IF it is wired correctly. But if it's wired backwards, on a 3-way switch, or something else weird, it can definitely still have live wires. A non-contact voltage tester is very cheap. It looks like a little pen and beeps and flashes when it is near a live wire. It's safe cheap and easy to double check that the wires are off with a tester. With your body, not so much.
2:49 "Don't want it to awk". That reminds me, about a week ago I caught my son chewing on some electrical wires, so I had to ground him. He is doing better currently and conducting himself properly.
your ceiling may play the sound of silenced ali if duct tape is really the only thing preventing you from touching the live wires :O may i sponsor some basic electrical supplies? 😅
I am glad you addressed the mocking in your video. I was a bit taken back by that choice but glad you had fun making the display and thanks for sharing.
The final result is so festive! I do think there should be 24-hour hardware stores just in case someone needs an extension cord or measuring tape in the middle of the night!
NOTE - T-pins are your friends for finding studs. Grip them with a pair of pliers and push them through the drywall. It leaves a tiny hole that can be burnished over if the area is painted, or ignored if not.
Man did I love the journey on this one. No better way to show holiday spirit than doing a beautiful installation that took the help of loved ones to arrange. This was the light we all needed. Thanks Ali.
Very cool light sculpture! Why didn't you power your thingy from the old fan power and switch you already had in the ceiling instead of the extension cord?! WHY?!!! Sorry, it is the electronic inside of me popping out!
Considering her previous adventures with wiring, I think it's for the best that she doesn't mess with her houses wiring before she gets a little more practice😅
👀 an @Electroboom and @Ali Spagnola colab in the future maybe? An art piece that shocks you? Already have the clickbait title right there "My latest piece of art will shock you❗(literally)"
Mehdi, the fact that you watched this whole video and still encouraged Ali to attempt 110 wiring displays your belief in people as growing, learning beings. Or your detachment from reality... too many shocks? Not enough shocks?
That tree is incredible! I want to sit and watch it swinging away for hours 😍 Re Science Ali, I love the character but the voice isn’t adding anything except making it feel a bit outdated to me. Can we keep the character but lose the lisp? All for including science in videos!
😂 I just started laughing so hard when you ran 120 volt extension cord up to the junction box where you removed the ceiling fan where you have 120 volts of power. I know you are not an electrician but this still made me smile
I think the voice is only mocking and or bad if u have bad intentions with it ( which u dont ) i personally love it ( i use to have a reaaallly bad lisp and ive worked on it over the years and its wayyy better but i can bring it back without any real effort whenever i like )
Cirkul I'll never ever buy, because I know you can buy dehydrated water that's much mucho better para la salud.... Sin duda.. Keep on rehydrating the dehydrated
So cool! I don’t know if that fan had a light switch, but it would’ve been dope to put an outlet in the fan box and you could’ve controlled it with the light switch.
Hmm. I never thought about that voice bothering me. And now that I have, as someone who overcame a speech impediment, I find it kind of sweet. It feels like it's paying homage to the bright little nerd I was, and what maybe I could've looked like with a little confidence. I'm sure not everyone's experience is like this, but I wanted to share mine. THAT BEING SAID. I am not everyone, and this genuinely might have hurt others. Thanks, Ali for taking a moment to ask, so you don't hurt others in the future. But, I adore this whole project. 💙💙
I knew a girl in high school who had a similar (but not the same) speech impediment. I think she was self conscious about it, but to be honest it was _super_ hot. If you're out there Erin, I hope you're doing well!
"I should stop trying to think that i can BEAT the chaos into submission I’ll be in a much better headspace if I can, just, recognize that existing is an oscillation from mess to order to mess sit back and accept the waves" - Ali Spagnola
When you perfect that release mechanism, can you do a long video of it recorded? That would be great! A lot of us just want to watch the tree patterns now.
Everything about this...the most beautiful thing you've ever done...chaos to order to chaos to a DIFFERENT kin of order! Congratulations, Ali! You're wonderful!
Cheat for studs in rooms with ceiling fixtures: the fixture itself is next to a stud (which holds it up). A little poking around through the hole will let you find which side the stud is on. After that, they're normally spaced every 16 inches (which comes out even for four, eight, and twelve foot sections of drywall).
I was thinking about talking about the smart Ali's lisp for quite some time now, and I'm glad you opened the conversation I personally dont apprechiate it. I understand your point of not trying to mock anyone, but every time she comes on I dont feel great... It's your choice as an artist, and I respect any decision you make❤ Happy advent time everyone :)
@ooky1 thank you for telling me, no offense taken. English is not my first language and therefore mistakes like that tend to happen. I will make sure to look out for the spelling of the word "appreciation" and the correctness of my comments in general :) Take care
I think you would find an oscillating multitool really useful. The wood blade is really easy to control, would handle cutting those boards really easily, and it's pretty safe and easy to control.
you're probably going to get more negative comments about it than comments by people who don't care, but as someone who's struggled with speech due to dyspraxia, i don't mind the character's voice. i don't find it mocking at all, it's relatable more than anything. smart things arent exclusively spoken in a clear voice
@@belg4mit She could always connect a temporary receptacle and box to plug in the power supply and stuff the whole lot up into the roof space. Much safer than leaving bare wires, with duct tape on, shoved up into the hole

Love the art, and love every adventures you're taking us on! It would be so cool if we could see the bts with the brainstorming that helps you get to those ideas. How do you find such creative and outrageous ideas?
Having just discovered your channel through the RUclips Maker Secret Santa, this is only the second video I have watched...on a day where I also slopped blue wall paint on my carpet. Serendipity! I own the house, so I wont tell myself when I cut the paint off.
I have no problem with you having a "science/mathy" character.. but yeah the voice has been bothering me. And maybe it's just me projecting my insecurities on that voice. Recently you've been inspiring me to create art and work with new mediums, using maths and physics, and I've been so happy sharing it with my friends and family But when I hear the voice of your character, it makes me worry that it's how I sound when I'm talking about my art And I start feeling bad about it. That's definitely not how I want it to feel. Apart from that, love you ❤ Stay outrageous!

Can acetone go on carpet? Like in nail polish.

I love How Christine isn't the least bit phased by that call. You hit that sweet spot where she's starting to embrace the madness...
*fazed... 😊
I was convinced we would get a "sponsor" for Dehydrated Water (just add water) when she mentioned getting thirsty.

Such shocking behavior. 😱
17:11 i need an hour long video of the pendulum with Christmas music
Like a fireplace stream but it’s the pendulum
That's an idea
Was thinking the same thing
Agreed!!!!
This is the exact comment I came here to write. Maybe with one of your holiday music mashups… Hey shorty
My ceiling plays the Jaws Theme
I wonder if you could use motorized drumsticks to play it automatically from the ceiling
7 hours ago and 1 reply let me fix dat
your ceiling may play the sound of silenced ali if duct tape is really the only thing preventing you from touching the live wires :O may i sponsor some basic electrical supplies? 😅
6 DAYS AGO AND ONLY 3 REPLIES AND 71 LIKES!?!? LET ME..
Duh duh duh duh duh duh
I find it interesting that you have Cirkul as a sponsor when you just launched Dry H2O.🤣🤣
yeah ... why no dehydrated water ?
I heard that's the hot new thing :)
And the LMNT sponsorship was just before Dry H2O...
Why can’t we have both lol
Wow that looked absolutely stunning. Love this so much
Right? lol
I don’t feel like I can talk about the Nerd with a Speech Impediment. Because I’m a Geek with a Speech Impediment. Totally different…
I had no idea scientist Ali was called Athena Spagshouse. So dope! Sounds like a RPG character name, which is very fitting
I am glad you addressed the mocking in your video. I was a bit taken back by that choice but glad you had fun making the display and thanks for sharing.
Having a dad: dads do indeed thrive on doing dad things for their kids and kid's partners.
The final result is so festive! I do think there should be 24-hour hardware stores just in case someone needs an extension cord or measuring tape in the middle of the night!
100% This
Now I need like a 30-60 minute video (or longer!) Of just the tree going and changing colors. It's mesmerizing! 🎄

Mehdi, the fact that you watched this whole video and still encouraged Ali to attempt 110 wiring displays your belief in people as growing, learning beings. Or your detachment from reality... too many shocks? Not enough shocks?
Because that’s spinny electricity. She needed swingy electricity.
1:48 I feel like Ali is just the big toddler in this situation and Chris I think her name is is trying to make sure she doesn’t blow herself up😂😂😂😂
Next! A jello sculpture of Santa Claus (anyway it’s also so fricking cool)
This is so ethereal and gorgeous! I'm genuinely moved by these festive dancing lights.
Shout out to Dad! :) love to all you guys, and Christine kind of stands in for a lot of us when she says " What are you doing now?" in "that" tone.
Once again you have outdone yourself. Fantastic job.
You should setup a PO box. Or Amazon wishlist. I want to send you a jigsaw to make your life easier!

Just a heads up, you only need to score that type of board with a knife and then bend it along that line. Saves all that sawing work.

I completely agree, the art is cool but I don't love that stereotype.
Amazing!!! I wonder how hard it would be to add mechanical servos to the top of each string to keep the pendulums going indefinitely?

- Am I missing something that made her decide not to tap power from the old fan power lines instead of using extension cord … ?
Wow. A Spags project that actually brought a tear to my eye. Talk about loving it when things come together!
You are never gonna get your deposit back are you?
Trueeeee
security deposit? oh we dont know her
It could be a situation where she bought the apartment like they do in New York…
She will hopefully only loose the deposit and not get charged for excess damage

Yeah bc everything is about you. She's being funny. Why take offense to the inconsequential stuff? You must have nothing better to worry about.
Grab some long exposure pics of the tree! I love it!!
11:59 A natural part of the DIY process.
I think you would find an oscillating multitool really useful. The wood blade is really easy to control, would handle cutting those boards really easily, and it's pretty safe and easy to control.
I absolutely loved that instant "we're on our way" response! 🤣
I truly love watching your channel. I feel like taping the wood together at the end would have made things a lot easier for you, lol.
I love that you kept trying, I think it’s awesome cuz I’m the same when I get into the head space to make something I do it.
I actually would love to see a longer version of you in the hardware store. I like hanging out w you via online lol
Great video. Thank you. Little notice: If you put cling film between your paint bucket and the lid, it will seal better and won't stick.
Scientist Ali is a character with a different voice. I don’t feel that it is mocking anyone. That said, I do not have a lisp. YMMV
This seems like a project Standup Maths would enjoy; right up Matt Parker's alley.

Christine's dad is my favorite side character. Much dad. Much knowledge. We bow
Ali, you have power in the ceiling from the fan, why did you run a wire from a wall outlet?
She ran 5 volts DC from a transformer plugged into an extension cord into a plug. The ceiling fan left bare 120V AC wires.

I know I heard her say that and I immediately came to the comments just to see if people backed her up
P.S. I love Sid the sloth
Beautiful art and math together! I love when patterns can be displayed so lovingly 😊
The piano music is sublime! Original? Borrowable for a not-monetised youber-tuber video? With attributions and whatsoevernot? Another smash.
This is so cool! I’ve been enjoying your videos, but this is really awesome.
It makes me laugh so hard that you just went to a shop that sells measuring tapes but didn't buy one but instead kept using the cruddy broken one 😂
Finally a circul sponsor instead of air up
Christine's dad made us laugh; we also see where some of her personality traits come from hah
0:00 is where the Video starts
