This helped me so much, I’m trying to prepare for a 5 minute presentation for a college class and have been struggling over my own words just to get all the info out, but this has helped me so much omg thank you.
Thanks for the tips! I'm preparing for a 5 minute presenation for my masters interview, and I'm just really hoping I can prepare well enough to impress the interview committee. Fingers crossed!
Same. I loved it. Perfect. When you think about it when you listen to someone that's really good you come away with just one idea and think OMG loved it.
@@LeadwithWords So basically it was an interhouse school debate our house came 2nd!! I received the win for the best school debater in favour of the motion.
Watching this vid helped, and I appreciate the advice quite a bit. As a JROTC Cadet, I have a 5-7 minute presentation that I have to do in a few weeks. Knowing me, I have insane social anxiety and stage fright, so I already know I am prone to becoming anxious and nervous. Aside from the good old “study your topic a lot” and “practice a lot beforehand”, what other methods are there to raise confidence? I would like to know if there are any, because when I’m not prepped, I become a nervous wreck.
Thanks for your comment! Besides being clear and presenting only what's necessary, here are 2 more quick tips to help with nervousness: (1) Have the mindset that our audience will benefit from the content you present. You are an expert in the topic you're presenting on, so that should give you confidence about your content. (2) Practice as much as possible beforehand. This will also raise your confidence level. All the best with your presentations and let us know if you have other questions!
Graded language and rate of speech should target the audience, though. The rate of speech you use in this video would be suitable to elementary-level students whose first language is English, but for more academic, pedantic, or content-specific and niche audiences, your rate of speech in this video is patronizing. Your graded language might hit middle-school students. Why not discuss that the average rate of speech is 120 words a minute for a proficient English-language speaker? Why not discuss verbal pauses as a specific means of slowing down? There's more to say, and more that is practical, than simply, "Slow down."
