I'm pushin' 50, and _The Breakfast Club_ is still my favorite movie of all time. There have been some close competitors, but I keep coming back to _universal adolescent experience._
Thank you so much for this. I’ve always said I wanted to go there and see the school as part of my bucket list. The Breakfast Club is one for the record books. ✊🏼
I currently go to Glenbrook North so watching this was cool. The street Ferris is driving down is the street I drive down to go to school and those steps that Sloane walks down lead to the auditorium. I always love watching the scene from the movie.
That's so cool! It would be cool to have any movie filmed at your school, but such an iconic movie like Ferris Bueller would take the cake. Thanks for watching!
Today is March 24th, my perfect excuse to rewatch my favorite movie of all time, The Breakfast Club. It's my dream to visit the main school to both the Ferris Builler's and The Breakfast Clubs. This video made me so happy!
Yes the school is on Shermer road but Northbrook (where John Hughes is from and where GBN is located) used to be called Shermerville until the name got changed to Northbrook.
I live in Switzerland, I'm 49 years old and I know the film too. The film also left its mark on us. Also known to us Pretty in Pink, WarGames, L.I.S.A., Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Great video! My favorite scenes are the beginning and end of thw movie and naturally the library. Cool to know it was constructed for the movie. I always thought it was a real library
Tomorrow is Breakfast Club Day March 24th. It’s been exactly 40 years since they sat in detention. If you listen to Anthony Michael Hall’s Brian Johnson March 24th was their day in detention. Don’t you forget about me Like the filming location video, 40 years ago. Wow!
Mrs. Geekdom, you have done an excellent job screen-matching this iconic shot. If you go to various movie location websites, as I'm sure you have, there is an incredible amount of disagreement regarding at which school this scene was filmed. Your screen matchup at 4:35 (now) and 4:36 (then) captures the roofline of the school and the windows just below the roofline, in the background to the left of the bleachers, and it is clearly the same location. The debate is over, thank you. And I too have watched this movie a hundred times, and I also did not see the goal line in the grass as he was fist-pumping. Stay golden.
I used to work all over the North shore back around '08 or so when I worked for Comcast, and again around 2015 when I worked for a pool company. Was pretty cool seeing a lot of the filming locations. I remember watching it one day not long ago and seeing all the old apartment buildings in the background and realizing I worked inside many of them. Also briefly remember going inside as a young kid with my parents to the lottery office, but had no clue what the breakfast club was until many years later. Worked in the building where ferris buellers mom worked. Also, crazy that the Bundy home from Married with children is within the same universe as all the John Hughes buildings in Deerfield
Well done! Very nice and interesting impressions! Did you notice, the similar light conditions in your recording like in the original film :-)?? Saw Breakfast Club again yesterday on TV , I watch it every time, what a touching movie! Unbelievable how young the girls and boys were then and that it is 38 years ago....
@@TheMagicGeekdom Yes it is! And all actors play their roles so sympathic and realistic! I also love the ending when they`re all leaving the building and the wonderful Simple Minds Song begins to play.....
I just finish seeing the movie. It's great to see the film locations and see how they look now, and what's there now. Thank you, this movie is a movie I feel a special connection to.
I am glad I was lucky to bump into your video. The “Breakfast Club High School” looks virtually the same! I am glad cos I ain’t a fan of change, unless it’s good change. Thanks to y’all I saw where they filmed the Ferris Bullers Flick. Your 🐶 is just so cute!!!!
I grew up over there. That’s des plaines IL. The apartments across from it is called crustwood apartments but at the time of the movie and early 2000’s it was called harritage point apartments and the fist pump was on the other side of the building not that side. But good content
That’s interesting to find out the library was a set. It was pretty identical to the media center at my high school. I just figured it was standard for High Schools built around the same time.
in my top five fav 80s movies. Also in my top five, four other John Hughes movies! He was the master, no one captured the essence of the 80s the way he did.
Wow! That was a nice little breakfast club segment. One of my all-time favorite films from John Hughes next to plane trains and automobiles from John Hughes. I didn't realize that the library was a built set for filming, not an actual library. Thanks for teaching me that! This was really really cool thanks for the information about the fist pump scene. I always thought about that fist pump. John Bender (Judd Nelson) had a rough life. And wasn't very happy as we could see. But That kiss with Claire Standish (Molly Ringwald) was probably the best thing that happened to him in years. He had to at least give a fist pump up by the football goal. That was the touchdown of his life! Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂👍
I stumbled upon you eating British 🍫 chocolate, l really enjoyed your video you look and sounded really nice people so that was enough for me to jump on board with you folks. Little bit about me l'm Scottish but have retired to Spain. Thanks for your previous video 🌷
Just a heads up. The football field was on the left side of the school if you are in front of the school looking at the front steps. The houses Behind you while you are talking about the field is where it was. 🙂 Thanks for the video. Took me back. I lived about a mile away and snuck into the school while they were building the set. Wasn’t hard until they started filming!!
Great video thank you . I am from Ireland and now live in Nashville. The breakfast lunch is top 3 movie for me and huge firm me growing up I was 11 when it came out . I’m a professional drummer . Charlie who plays guitar for simple minds has me teach his two boys the drums . I got to speak to him about the song and the movie. I hope to see this location soon. Thank you again “ sincerely yours”
Thanks. I watched the edited movie once or twice decades ago. I liked it even though the edited version is not nearly as good. I didn't appreciate just how brilliant it was until later. I didn't watch it for about 25 years. Then, about 6 years ago, I rediscovered it. Not only have I watched the unedited version many times, but I have watched about 70 stage versions of it. I love to see the different approaches the other actors take. There are versions from middle school on up to university. And, there are professional stage productions. Maybe, I will check this location out at some point.
So crazy I used to live in those buildings and I had no clue the film was there. And I won a lottery ticket and enter the building that’s why I had like high school vibes when I walked in there 😂
Omg amazing great movie makes me feel.like a teen again.. I.met Molly Ringwald. Few years ago she did a tour of a CD and concert nice girl beautiful very awesome to meet her so glad I did. Can u go inside the building of the old school. .they should make it as a tour. One day I'll go ..near Chicago.is it.
So shermerville is the original name for Northbrook. The name was changed at turn of the last century to give the town a fresh start since it was known for its abundance of taverns ( recalling from NBK historical society trip from 4th grade ). The new name comes from the north branch of the Chicago river which cuts through downtown. Trivia: Mrs Hughes was a librarian at GBN, she was still there when I was in HS (84-88)
Yes...my understanding is that the football field was right where you were. One of the shots shows the exterior of the building in it. I would love to ask to get access to the building one day. It would be kind of cool to do that.
Sadly, naaaaah. Maybe, at most, a surreptitious look of acknowledgment in front of their peers...but nothing beyond that. They'd have gone right back into their clique-y role "box". Sad.
For what it's worth, if he was walking past the goal post, he'd be in the back of the end zone walking off the field instead of walking across the goal line.
Hi, the wife and i are planning a trip and was going to make this part of it, did you encounter any problems filming around this building (police ect) or on the field at the rear of the building?
Love this movie. Classic. The biggest argument in my house between me and my wife is do they stay friends in the movie? I know how it was when I was in high school and there’s all kinds of clicks. I know they don’t stay friends, but my wife thinks they do. What do you think?
#fyi the school didn't have a football team. I heard since my High School is in same town they quickly shot the scene. About 5 miles west from where you were at. I enjoyed ya video. Ps: i've done a business translation inside...Re: so exiting it still remains open! Awesome movies John wrote & made!
