Anyone else would have either used a lot of resin or had multiple pieces of wood lying on their shop floor. But your skill and a little bravery made the risk pay off. That is a beautiful piece that celebrates the Birch wood. 👏👏
The fact that some things can hide in the wood from your eye is quite encouraging to some of us. You're a truly gifted artist Mr. Phillip. Thank you for sharing.
What a way to finish off my weekend. A nice cuppa and one of your videos Andy. They never fail to impress. Your talent and patience are a pleasure to watch. Love your work!!!
Hi Andy. I guess you have proven that you can turn something beautiful out of any chunk of wood !! It's really pretty. And no two turns are ever the same.
You may not have expected the result, but I did. After watching your work for a while now I have learned to assume that you will produce artistic and artisan perfection every time. I have yet to be disappointed.
Thanks Julia. . It should be at some point . I have quite a few pieces I need to get listed in the shop. If you drop me a message on the website andyphillip.com I can then contact you when it is available 👍
I'm a fan of your work, truly master class. This is a very good piece as you always do, but to be honest, I liked it with the natural edge. I think the shape and your finish is still excellent.
This came out so beautiful; birch is amazing wood-- so many variations! The finished form reminds me strongly of Antelope Canyon up at the far northern end of Arizona near Lake Powell; the colors are different, but the light coming through those curves and openings is very similar. Google it, and you'll see what I mean. I had an odd idea come up during this video, and I wondered if you had ever considered it. Are you familiar with the art of kintsugi? It's a Japanese craft where a broken ceramic object like a bowl, plate, etc. is joined piece-by-piece back together using epoxy and gold powder, celebrating the idea that to break can sometimes mean renewal or recreation. Gorgeous stuff. And I wondered if the technique could be applied; might be interesting...
As ever, your skills with the tools and artistic talent have created something exquisite. I keep saying it, but it's true - I don't like ornaments, but I'd give _anything_ you make house room with pride!
I don't think it's any the worse for losing the bark - quite the contrary. The beauty of the underlying wood is all it needs, more textures would have complicated it.
Must be very gratifying to uncover the treasures wood had inside each piece! !! !!! Thanks Andy.
It really is!

Of all the chunks of wood I've seen turned recently, this one is, without doubt, the most beautiful. It celebrates itself.
The fact that some things can hide in the wood from your eye is quite encouraging to some of us. You're a truly gifted artist Mr. Phillip. Thank you for sharing.
