I got my hands of a few mics from Lauten Audio and was thoroughly impressed. I got sent the Lauten Audio LS-308 the Lauten Audio LS-208 and the Lauten Audio LA-120s. These things are easily some of the most unique designs of any mic I've ever used. The LS-308 on toms is a problem solver. If you've got crazy tight space and bleed is something you struggle with... these could easily solve your problems.
The real surprise came with the Lauten audio LA-120s on overheads. For such a cheap mic, these easily eat mics 5-6 times their cost for breakfast. The stereo picture on the drums, depth, flexibility on the hi-pass, and low-pass. Yeah, this rocks.

I'm doing Let's Plays and have been trying to filter out fan noise from my desktop computer for the last two years, trying (cardoid) lavalier mics, Sennheiser headsets, super expensive gun interference tube mics, super close, very nice condenser mics and a Drawmer DS201 noise gate. The Lauten LS-308 or maybe also the LS-208 might be the answer to my prayers. Must try them. Thanks so much for the video! (even though watching your channel makes me considerably poorer) 😋

Bertrom audio makes a de-noise plugin for free that is super low latency and very easy to use! Maybe try that as well. It makes all of my quiet sources very clean. The studio I use has some low ambient noise that it just gets rid of like magic.

I picked up an older & used LA320 as my first tube mic a few months ago, and the sounds samples I took blew me away. I've used mics 10x the price in the studio where I work and I still consider bringing this one in as a backup.

A few years ago at NAMM I tried out 50+ mics with a ceiling of $500 on my Baritone voice. The LA320 was easily my favorite. I had to more than double the price to exceed it's sound quality. Later, I had a problem with microphonics. LA repaired it for me. Awesome company, quality, and customer support!

The LA-120's are my go to overhead pair; have been for a long time, they just work. I've got their Clarion and LA-220's and they all get used all of the time

Yeah I think they will be mine moving forward. I just did a vocal session on top of some tracks from a few months back with different overheads… much much more expensive, and I missed the separation and smoothness from the 120s

These tom mics sound very nice and the form factor really intrigues me! And I loved the small diaphragm pair, regardless of the price. In general Lauten Audio makes some really really good stuff from what I've seen, I hope to get the chance to try some out for myself soon!

Yeah, the more I play with these the more I like them. Agreed. The off axis sound is huge. DM20s are great of axis. But very loud.

Welp thanks.. I was really considering getting the LA120 V2s and I think you just sold me. I have a few different pairs I use, Oktava M012, WA 87 R2s, and some other ribbons. I have heard nothing but good things on these and I think I am gonna go for it.

@@RecordingStudioLoser Yeah there is that too. They said with some adjustments you basically have some smooth sounding ribbon like overheads too. Also that they are very transparent. The only other real review I saw of these was by Andrew Masters. Pretty night and day difference the amount of detail he got out of them. Any chance you could put up a video maybe spot lighting each of these mics?

Cool review. I'm a huge Lauten fan myself rockin a Eden 386. Easily my most favortie vocal and acoustic guitar mic ever. Me being a vocalist I'm super picky, but pair that with a neve style preamp and you are golden!

@@RecordingStudioLoser It's their flagship mic so not the cheapest by any means, but well worth the investment. Super versatile with its voicing options but it definitely shines on vocals. The voicing settings mainly, imho, make it versatile to suit different singers and genres with the flick of a switch or two rather than switching out mic options.

Thanks for this. It got me looking at the LA120s since I could use another pair of SDCs for cymbals but funds are tight right now. I've used one of the Black series LDC before that a guitarist brought to use with his acoustic a few years back and it sounded really nice and these higher end mics sound pretty excellent.

I just got a pair of these in a weird and semi-unintentional fashion. I ordered a mic by a small company and got two duds in a row. I won't name because I do believe they make good stuff, I just had some bad luck. What are the chances of getting two brand new mics (the model) that don't work within the span of 2 weeks? Anyway -- I decide to exchange for a pair of these. Just did a drum overhead shootout with them against what I've been using, which I really like but the tone they give is quite stylized and locked in. The la-120s give you so many options and they all sound great. I also own an ls-208 and a Clarion and I have to say the quality of the Lauten stuff is just incredible for the price you pay.

Absolutely love Lauten. I own two Atlantis, and while they’re more expensive and definitely massive, they’ve been some of my best investments. See if they’ll send you one haha, I bet you’ll love it from the problem solving standpoint. I’m stoked to try some of the black sdc series and also the tighter patterned models you’ve highlighted.

Do you think the LA-120 could be good paired with SM57 for top snare? I’m looking at these, the KSM137 and Audio-Technica AT4041 for that purpose. Would also be good to have for close mic on Cymbals/clap stacks. Thanks.

How is the off-axis response on those SDCs. I do a lot of work with orchestral ensembles and where a lot of affordable mics fall apart is with their off axis coloration.

    • @legacyShredder1
      @legacyShredder1 Год назад +1

Extremely neutral and tamed. Lauten have nailed that across their entire line from affordable to top of the line. Compared to their old SDC (LA-120,) the new LA-120 V2's have a more vintage vibe in terms of timbre, and it's done in an organic sounding way that seems natural to the nature of the mic rather than some kind of obvious filter inserted at the end of circuit that other companies do (This is strictly my experience with those mics.) The LA-120 V2 mics require less processing, in my opinion, to sound done compared to most of the SDC's on the market.
