I just love your channel!!! I haven't had, or am I planning to have weight loss surgery. However, I really get a lot out of the things you've come to realize as you've gone through the surgery and recovery process. The one you share tonight - food is actually a small part of your life - is one thing I'm going to remember. I also struggle with slowing down my eating as well. I just want to shovel it in even though I enjoy eating so much more when I slow down and take my time savoring my food. I've lost 20.3 lbs since Dec 31st and have used many of the insights you've shared on your channel. Thank you for sharing your journey!

I was surprised to hear a Dr recommend a food funeral to his clients somewhere on you tube! I did not! In fact due to my circumstances surrounding my surgery I put myself on liquids for 3 weeks rather than 2. Plus I was also allowed a small meal everyday! But I just did not want to put myself in danger! 4 days out now and not missing food at all! Would love to be missing gas pains!😂😂😂😂

Great video! I could have done this two years ago but never got past the paper work and it would have been 100 percent covered since we had met out out of pocket that year. Now I have one more appt and it is with the Therapist. In April we have our 40th anniversary trip and I am thinking May if I don’t chicken out. I was going to buy clothes for my trip but think I will shop in my closet instead. That color looks great on you!

You are so sweet! You've got a new subscriber :) I'm in day 5 of my livershrink. 9 lbs down.
I did try to do several food funerals but after a couple of times I realized I was better off not doing it. I've been off soft drinks since before Christmas ( this is April 17 th ) and I don't really miss them.
When I started to think about the different stuff I wanted to eat before surgery that's when I suddenly wanted it.
So, I decided not to go that route.
The week before my liver shrink diet , which started April 14th, was passover, which meant no bread. I told my hubby for Easter I didn't want to see a bunch of candy, which is a thing of ours every Easter.
I also have made my own broth twice now. Once when I made the matzoball soup for passover ( I saved the extra broth by straining it) and once last week.
I agree, homemade broth is sooooooo much better! You get to season it to taste and it's simple ingredients, no words you can't pronounce. Also, my hubby wanted Chinese, so I ordered wonton soup andcthen drained the broth off it. Probably a bit more sodium than I should have, but it's sooo good!
I get excited over new things, so, I am getting a few things I don't really have to have but want. Like I'm going to get a portion control plate and silverware. (I won't need that until after surgery so I'm waiting on that. I also got a Ninja Creami so that I can make healthier ice cream and frozen stuff. Plus the protein shakes can be used to make ice cream.
I guess what I quickly learned about getting stuff, and being on a budget is to get them in phases and when you need them. I started looking at what to have during my liver shrink diet as soon as I was approved and had a date.
Now, as I'm going through this phase, I'm looking at what I need for surgery and at least the first week or so after. So on and so on.
It's so much easier that way.
You're right about clothes. The only time I did lose a ton of weight was in 2001/2002
when I started Atkins. I was very very strict on it and lost 60 + lbs. I learned that pants are the first to go. Tops you can get away with longer, but pants you can't do that, lol. 😅
I'm excited gor my new life. The only real issue I have is activity. I've become a couch potato and it's really difficult to break that habit, but I've got to do it. 😊

@@kakisrnyjourney5376 Surgery date is April 27th. So, as of now 9 days. And, actually, I just had my first nsv!
I had surgery in 2021. A colon resection with illeostomy and illeostomy reversal. I went through alot with that illeostomy. It nearly broke me. I couldn't wear pants and dresses on me, just no. After reversal I found out I'd gained even more weight and couldn't wear any of my shorts and 90% of my pants. Today, 6th day of liver shrink and 20 lbs lighter since last August, I tried on a pair of my old shorts ( 18 W) and they fit! Comfortably! 🤗🙌
Like, I almost cried. And I have energy today. I'm just gonna close my eyes, center myself and look forward. ❤

    • @kakisrnyjourney5376
      @kakisrnyjourney5376  Год назад +1

Hi Becky! I had the bypass. I understand the fear, but I can tell you that my personal experience and that of many friends and colleagues who have had the surgery has been smooth and without complications. Of course there are potential risks, but the benefit of gaining your health and feeling so much better along with being able to be more active is so worth it! Try to remember the risk of staying where you are as well. At least for me, that was much greater. And also remember, people with problems tend to be more vocal and talk about it more.

Thank you so much for your reply. I too love traveling so I connected with you. Africa was my favorite trip. My husband and I are plant based so we are already restricted and the nutritionist said she has never worked with a plant based diet. She was uninformed and asked why don’t I even drink milk. It will not be easy but you are the absolute first that made it seem doable. May I be forward enough to ask your approximate age? I am 67. Thanks again. Becky

@@beckyault6336 I am 50. It is absolutely do-able. If I can offer a suggestion- if you are able, find a private nutritionist who may be more informed regarding counseling plant-based folks. I actually have a nutritionist outside of my surgeon's office that I work with because of availability issues. She does visits via phone. I have a visit with her on Friday and will ask if she has experience in that area or if she knows someone.
