I was actually going to voice Merf in the talkie version; however, the talkie version is long gone, so I don't even know if Fred still even has my recordings. If I remember correctly, one of the Furkunz says that Merf is extremely scared of ghosts, which is your hint about the vacuum cleaner puzzle. Looking forward to more!
I love that continuity conversation with the bartender! It's realistic that Roger would have these thoughts. It feels like one of those things that an officially licensed product would ignore, but something that only really invested fans would think of! I like it!
The ghost puzzle is probably the one puzzle I designed that got to remain in the final game. Which is a good thing. It's heavily inspired by (read: "It unashamedly rips off") Elmo St. Peters' defeat in The Brave Little Toaster.
Interesting. I was thinking the Trottier séance in Fate of Atlantis. ;) It's a good puzzle, mechanically at least; I just didn't see the hint that Werg was afraid of ghosts anywhere.
Thanks, man! I may be misremembering, but I *think* you can talk to Odster and Gofty about Merf (not Werg; man, the names of all these frickin' furry c***s), and they'll drop a line about freaking him out by pretending to be ghosts.
If they do, I missed it. I went through their entire dialogue tree, but I confess I just clicked through it without reading it aloud and cut it out of the video. ;)
I loved the conversation with the bartender concerning Space Quest IV. I figured that was the reason why Roger was being wishy washy on marriage, and it is nice to see they thought of that and showed realistic concern and thought put into that.
Considering this was released in 2011, that too much water joke might be an odd reference to "wee for a wii" a radio contest held in the US where a woman died by drinking too much water in the hopes of winning a Nintendo Wii.
First I hear of that, to be honest! I think the joke is merely that the bartender is encouraging responsible drinking, even though he's just serving water.
Yeah, it always really stuck out to me because the mom was just trying to get a Wii for her kids, it made the rounds in various video game magazines/publications back then. This was always what I thought the joke was referencing when I originally played through this game, but it's good to hear it was simply based on being a responsible drinker when it came it alcohol, which to be fair, has killed a lot more people then drinking water! I'll link a news article to it, shame she died over something that's literally worth $30 now. articles.latimes.com/2007/jan/14/local/me-water14
Yikes. That's an awful story. Who the hell comes up with a contest like that anyway? As far as I know, it's not a reference to that at all - we would often brief each other whenever writing in an obscure reference to something else. But there are a bunch of other jokes regarding the nature of the bar in there. Specifically, the bartender states that the bar is only there because the mayor likes to have a drink once in a while. However, the mayor hasn't even noticed yet that all they've run out of alcohol and have started to serve water. The guy on the stool to Roger's left is also a pretty heavy drinker. So that was the kind of humour we were going for, crude as _that_ is.
@@spacequesthistorian I'm quite fond of them. My two favorites are: - Chuck Norris can gargle peanut butter. - Chuck Norris went to a feminist rally and came back with his shirt ironed and holding a sandwich.

"Long gone," you say ... 😏
Space Quest Historian Wait, are you saying that the talkie version is still a possibility??

Limizeeen (the red guitar at 16:45) is actually a reference to a band Homestar Runner
*Rocks out with his Spock out* Space Quest TIME! Another funny vid. Thanks!
If I ever lose track of what day it is, these videos help remind me. Thank you 🙌🏼
And here we see the Cave Troel aimlessly shambling about his natural habitat.
I like the Quest For Glory reference.
That conversation with the Bartender was Awesome!
Yes! Surprising to see this depth in a Space Quest game that didn't feel out of place or unnatural.

Yes, I thought that was a very nice touch, and it really helped ground the plot in some sense of realistic urgency.

I never heard that story. That sounds awful! I mean, I have a Wii and it's great, but I wouldn't kill myself over it.

I too immediately thought about that awful "hold your wee for a wii" contest when that popped up. Funny how it's not related at all.
When Chuck Norris falls in water, Chuck Norris doesn't get wet. Water gets Chuck Norris.
When were these ever funny?!
For awhile, they were worth a chuckle.
Until Chuck broke out the *JEEEEZUS*

You must have the bucket? So...uh... you actually have a bucket bucket-list? *badumm* *tsss*.... I know, my puns are harmful and hurtful, I'm sorry :D
My bucket list is a physical list of all the buckets that are available as inventory items in all adventure games. And I must possess them all!
yay! it's tuesday! :3
The gravity boots with the pink blood on them are a reference to Star Trek 6, I believe.
Oh, right! That makes sense. Bit of a weird reference to throw in there, but I'll take it. 😊
@@spacequesthistorianA weird and extremely specific reference.
Well, it's a goddess of *fertility*; a name with the F-word in it wouldn't entirely be out of place.
Gary Palaroncini!
It could be that it was an old holo, and she looks older now. Then. Later. Whatever. ^^:
This looks like a fun game, but im not feeling any "space quest" vibe. Just saying.
