Gotta admit, I love those west coast RVs, and that Jayco appeals to on a very basic level. As nice as slides are, if you plan on pulling something all over the place, a no slide camper has some advantages. If you plan on long haul trips, no slide means complete access in a parking lot overnight stay or where ever you are. Plus like you mentioned, one less thing to go wrong.

I have a no slide JayCo with queen bed and the bath has a separate shower. We love it. Pull over and eat lunch and use the bathroom with ease. Back it in and level it and you are done, boom! And it’s a little more light weight as well.

I'm loving that Class A you showed. You called it "old school" and it really is. We're currently restoring a 1988 Elite 36' Class A that has a floor plan almost exactly like that! I was blown away that there's a new one being made with that same convenient no-nonsense design. Maybe more RVers and Mfgrs are coming around and seeing the light! As a side note, we've found that a bunk house trailer makes a great couples camper - just pull out the mattresses and put in some thin carpet... there's amazing storage in those spaces. We keep chairs, grills, coolers, extra food and bevereges, all kinds of things in there.

Josh: Thanks. YES! YES! YES! You’ve pegged five great no slide selections and three honorable mentions. Come 2025, when wife and I are old and feeble and can travel trailer no more, we might be looking to swap up to that Coachmen Pursuit 27XPS or maybe a Coachmen 27QB class C (if they ever go back into production) or even a Forester TS2381 on the Ford Transit chassis. Until then, we’ll just keep the tires on the Coachmen 204 RD rolling down the road for a few more years. Respectfully, W.S.

My current camper is a no slide 2020 Shasta 26BH, Shasta quality is a little to be desired... but the layout is something for a no slide unit that other companies should consider. No slides, makes them lighter, less to go wrong and if you make the camper too big, too nice, too comfortable, you stay in it...a camper is a place to sleep and make food to make your travels cheaper as you enjoy the OUTDOORS. Examples, I did a 4 week vacation to the Badlands, Yellowstone/Grand Tetons and Eastern Tennessee for $5,500. I spent 5 weeks in Florida, including 2 in Key West for $4,500. I spend the same $ on a month long vacation as I used to on a 1 week vacation staying in hotels, flights and restaurants, so I have more money, I vacation MORE and have MORE fun. Don't get sucked into buying the nicest camper you can afford, you still need money left over to travel and do fun things. A no slide just might be your perfect camper. 😁😁👍👍

Slide out have their advantages no doubt. I’ve had both and the one key thing I noticed besides room and the additional maintenance and leak point is the additional WEIGHT. Omg you can make a 4000lb camper jump to 5500-6000lb easy making a sensible 1/2ton towable camper to require a larger 3/4 ton truck. I found this out the hard way. Got a wonderful deal on a palomino puma so we traded our sunline only to realize once I hit the highway my dodge 1500 was way way way to weak. Something I never thought about. Oh I was told it could be towed by a 1500 but it was not a good idea.

The Grey wolf floor plan is great, except for one deal breaker. The deal breaker is where the water heater is located. I want a pass through storage up front. With the water heater where it is, much of the storage is pretty useless, either that or have to nearly empty the storage to get to the stuff stored in the middle towards the left side,

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  9 месяцев назад

I like the semi-private bedroom in the Freedom Express 20SE and the Jay Flight 212QB. While the sleeping area is still visible it gives the feel of a multiple room trailer.
I wish someone would do the Grey Wolf layout with a wall behind the couch to allow for a private bedroom and a small slide for the range and sink. I've seen it with the dinette on the park side in larger trailers but we prefer a dinette on the camp side so we have view of the campsite and woods at our regular state parks sites rather than the road.

There aren’t many really good independent RV parts and repair facilities left but when you find one ask them this question. I’m very familiar with 3 in the southwest and here’s the question you ask, what part of an RV do you do the most repairs on? Slides, electric awnings with wind sensors and residential refrigerators. Other than structural items these are usually the most expensive repairs many of which happen even with careful maintenance.

Josh, can you please do a good video of fifth wheel toy haulers without slides? I know of only a few, XLR Micro Boost 301LRLE, KZ Sportster 280TH, but I thought with your knowledge, you would know of some more. My wife and I have been shopping for a while, now, and we have come to the conclusion that an older couple with two motorcycles that hope to stay in some state parks and travel has very few options. We want zero slides and shorter length to fit in more places. Please help. Thanks!

Almost zero no-slide RVs are rated for cold camping. Northwood might be one of the new REALLY doing it
A few good cold-camp rated brands to consider might be Cougar, Eagle, Reflection.. but usually smaller RVs don't quite have the same bulky weather pkg as larger stuff

I'm not sure you could even make a top 5 from that. This industry doesn't make taller stuff often. BUT... I have some ideas for you (oddly.. travel trailers are the best option for tall people)
1.) Eagle HT has 7ft ceilings
      2.) Reflection has 7ft ceilings
      3.) "Eagle"-proper has 7'3" Ceilings
4.) Destination Trailers (often called park models) usually have ceilings ranging from 8ft high to 8'6"
Beyond that.. I'm not really aware of much

      To your questions:
*OTHER 600LB RATED BUNKS?* I actually think there are others but they likely under-rate their bunks. Jayco seems to be pretty exclusive in that regard
*FWs FOR LIFTED TRUCKS?* None I know of specifically. MFGs build for factory standard vehicles usually

MFGs build what sells. It's pretty much that simple. No-Slide fifth wheels or even stick and tin fifth wheels are something that proved less and less popular over the years
Kind of like how nearly no MFGs are currently building popups or hybrids. They're a dying breed I think
