I think the idea of an "improve your cheap guitar" series is a really lovely idea - a chance to teach those youngsters and/or parents how to improve their cheap starter instruments. One of my band mates has been building guitars with his son, and now his lad is leaving school and looking at a music industry related career. This idea is no small thing, it could really influence some future guitarists and maybe future luthiers too.

Cheap guitars are a great way to start getting into mods. I bought a cheapo tele that costed me 3500 pesos and probably spent around 1800 pesos on a new neck, new tuners, a fret file and some nuts. That guitar sounds damn good to my ears compared to my strat that I bought for 8000.

Great review! I went up a notch with an Indio (Monoprice) "Retro Classic DLX" and for $199 and got an instrument equivalent to the Squier and other T-style guitars currently selling in the $400 to $600 range. Excellent construction, great finish, holds a tune and great sound that is plenty "Tele" enough for the price tag. Set up at the factory saved me a trip to the luthier and the extra $ for that. Strung with D'Addarios and comes with a free gig bag. I will be using this guitar with my students. I encourage you to have a look if you haven't already!.

I’m also a professional guitarist, and I bought that very same Glarry. I thought I’d just mess with it or mod it or something.
SURPRISE! It’s actually a pretty darn decent little axe! Now... it wouldn’t be my go-to gigging instrument... BUT
in an emergency it’d be GREAT! He’s right- the microphonic pups are a bit of a drag, and I had to smooth down the ends of the frets. But other than that... I LOVE THIS AXE!

I just received an identical GTL last week. $68.40 delivered to San Francisco. Have to change strings, clean fingerboard. Check the level, polish frets. I learned a few cords on two verry funky and very bad guitars when I was young. Truth is, the actions were so bad, I gave up guitar. Now retired, bought this Glarry and will try again. I believe my eBay Glarry was actually a return. The (bad) strings were shiny at the frets, indicating lots of use. There was no plastic film on either pickguard or the pick-ups. Hence, a return. The transparent yellow high gloss finish was flawless. So, even if it was a return, I will just try to set it up and use for my learning guitar. Perfecto- you intimidate me. I don't see me ever getting close to your skill. It has to be the guitar genes. Good video. Great channel.

the Glarry "Stratocaster" was 60 bucks on Amazon, so i got one for camping trips - - cheap enough that i wouldn't have to worry if it got damaged
or ran low on firewood.. HA!.. .. Immediately replaced strings & tuned and adjusted pickup heights. No fret or finish problems to repair. The whammy recovers
nicely from a nosedive, and in 6 months i've only had to adjust tuning once! The neck is THICK like a baseball bat, but still easy to play.
hey for $60, i'm exceptionally pleased with the tone and finish and playability of this Glarry Strat. Even A HUNDRED sixty dollars would be worth it.
(using a 6-AA battery BlackStar FLY amp when camping. Hell it was $10 more than the guitar!)

But I was an adult with my own job and Bill's before I got one, and being an adult with other priorities, I knew I would not be able to devote the time and attention required to learn the instrument, so an inexpensive model was the wisest option.

    1) You play fantastic
    2) Yeap amazing guitar for that price. I recently bought a Squier Strat for 130 euros (for a mod project), my first guitar in the early 2000s was a Squier Strat as well. And between the Squier Strat I bought the other day, and my first Squier Strat, there is no comparison. The Squier Strat I just bought was setup properply, stayed in tune, and played and sounded good (for that price). My first guitar was a piece of crap, bending made the tuning keys spin backwards and the string would go out of tune, intonation was terrible and the tremolo bar was unusable.
Entry price guitars have really improved a lot and are suitable for beginners, and mod projects.

People spend way too much money on gear hoping it will give them an advantage, the only way to really sound good is to spend the hours of practice that is required, there is not shortcut! This video is a clear example of what a good player can do with a mediocre instrument. This guitar is sufficiently good enough for at least a couple of years for any beginner. Nice video perfecto. Nice guitar overall, although the pickups kinda off for me, considering the price point (around 5,000 Php), Its a great-value guitar for beginners. For someone like me whose been used to playing acoustic and considering owning an electric for the 1st time in the future, I think this could be a good guitar to start, mainly for familiarising with the knobs and electric guitar maintenance

I have two Yamaha EG 112C2´s, I think I paid $199.00 per. Great guitars. You can walk away from one for six months, and the strings might be rusted over but those damned things will still be in the exact tuning you left them in. All the stuff I´ve seen on youtube about guitars has convinced me of what I already suspected, that the most important thing about an electric guitar is that the octaves are right on, the action and strings are even and consistent and you have good pickups and amp and it has good tuning machine heads that won't move. No one will ever convince me that pricey guitars aren´t a scam. These are not my only cheap guitars, I also have a Gibson Maestro 2/3rd scale acoustic guitar my son bought me. I think he may have paid a couple of hundred for it. Another great guitar, easy to play, (small hands), and sounds great. I keep that one next to my sofa so I can play while I´m watching TV.

I got a Rogue Rocketeer electric guitar for $60 a few years back. Still think it's an amazing guitar and play it to this day. I'm familiar with the Glarry brand, but Rogue is a much more well-known brand in general; It's Musicians Friends store brand. Definitely recommend Rogue over Glarry any day. If you haven't already I recommend checking it out. Hundreds of positive reviews out there. Definitely not as pretty as the Glarry in your video, but super well made.

The seldom mentioned fact about cheap guitars is that virtually every mechanical part on them will either break, come loose, strip out and ultimately give problems. The American Fender strats I've had have never given me a single problem while every cheap guitar has had multiple problems. There are some things at the dollar store not worth buying and cheap guitars are like those things

Perfect type of guitar to learn how to set up correctly, tweak stuff, learn how to perhaps solder pickups and pots. I mean, you aren't gonna make it shittier! 😆😆. I think I may pick one of these is to practice all the things I just mentioned.
