I worked at a hog operation for a couple years... that brings back some memories.
I worked all the barns... breeder barn, dry sow barn, farrowing barns, weener barn, grower barn, finish barns...
Lots of maintenance and cleaning that's for sure
And moving them was a nightmare

You guys make a great comedy team! I grew up on a combination farm in Central Indiana. Corn, Beans, Wheat, Cattle, and hogs. We maintained a 300 sow herd, farrow to finish. I recall all the joys? of raising hogs, and your buildings are very familiar looking. I always hated overnight duty in the farrowing barn. Sow would drop a 14-pig litter at 1AM and by sunrise she would have 6 left. Dad always reminded me that we did not get paid on the number of pigs a sow birthed, but on the ones we raised. We paid for quite a few additional crop acres by raising hogs. Thanks for the memories! As Dougo would say, "For those of you who know......."

It was interesting seeing what the Larson's used to do. Bet that was a real chore taking care of all those pigs. Lots of hard work! Chet talked about cutting the galvanized steel and getting sick. Reminded me when I was about 12, helping my oldest brother cut-up some galvanized pipe for scrap. He told me that you could get sick from breathing the fumes from that. I think it was zinc poisoning. Guess what? I inhaled too much and I was sick! Just like Chet. But, when he mentioned about being 12 yo, and that happening to him. The first thing I thought was, I would love to have seen Chet at that age. I bet he was cute as a bug in a rug! Best to your family in all you do, and thanks for what you are doing. God Bless!

I wouldn't mind coming across a building being removed i could reuse some of the materials from. I was offered a small barn but the owner never got ahold of me to set up a time to rip it down and bring it home. Its hard to farm without proper structures. You guys have definitely went through time on your farm. I'm sure it took time to decide to cut down on what to concentrate your time and money into. We have a small hobby farm I've been working hard to get started. We have a bit of everything here. A donkey, a dairy cow, chickens, turkeys, goats, pigs, rabbits, dogs, cats, birds, and a bearded dragon. We only have 2 acres to work with but we are doing it. It has been one step at a time for sure. Making the best of what we have and don't have. Love seeing a farms history and getting ideas as well. Love your videos even though I don't seem to find time to watch much anymore. Between family, two jobs one part time one full time, and a farm, days pass before we know it. My dream is to have a fully functional farm and spend more time working from home. Thank you for the hard work you put into your farm, people like me wouldn't have it so easy without what you guys do every day.

Dougo and Chet, many thanks for the tour. So enjoyed looking thru the old hog barns.
Dougo I sincerely appreciate your memories of raising hogs. On our farm we had few cattle and good sized sheep herd. BUT just down the road from us was a big hog raiser with all the barns. So I was pushed into helping the neighbor until we got onto for grain work. Dougo , all kinds of memories seeing your hog barns. Chet you are right, it was a lot and I mean a lot of hard work. Wow. My hat is off to any hog raiser, you work hard for your hog operation.
Hopefully you can find some folks that will want some of the items left in the houses. Lumber is high priced right now. You might get someone that would tear it down for the lumber.
Love hearing Dougo talk about memories of the old days. So interesting to hear. Thanks Dougo and Chet.
Old bicycles are worth a few dollars now days. Some nice bikes there.
About it for now. Again, thanks for the tour. Was interesting and brought back memories working with hogs.

Thanks for everything you two. Glad to hear the dad/son interchange when talking about the future. Neat.

Dad had 30-60 sows when I grew up. I don’t like eating pork to this day. Cleaning farrowing pens. Having to let out sows twice a day to eat and drink. Little pigs would run out and have to get them back in the pen when mom was right there with you. Having sows chase you in a confined space . Frozen waters and having to thaw them out. Sorting pigs all the time. Pigs were gone after I left for college.

We raised hogs here when I was a kid also milked cows and then did custom work around the neighborhood for a lot of the smaller farmers at that time . Pigs left I think about 1970 4 or 5 one point I thought I'd like to have the back but not anymore. I like the beef cattle. And crops

I see a lot of comments, "I had a hog operation too" "I used to work..." "my uncle used to have..." "my father had a..." Makes me wonder why so many stopped and who still DOES it?! Pigs are so yummy!

The most valuable thing left in those hog barns are probably the vintage bicycles. 😁🚲🚲🚲🚲

Cement is the gray powder that binds the rock and sand together. Once you add material to the cement it becomes concrete. I use to work for a concrete pump company and my boss hated it when I would call it cement.

Used to work on a feed to finish farm while in high school. Used to store high moisture corn in a Harvestore silo. Lots of trips to the stockyards, those were the days
