    Sad commentary on modern Britain and that really nothing changes. In 1820 there were homeless beggars outside palaces, in 2018 still the same. 30 million quid spent on a family where inherited wealth and privilege by birth is the norm and people without even a roof over their head watch them go by.

      Elvis Has left the building And the wedding brings in two billion for the country.

    • @hobbyable1
      @hobbyable1 6 лет назад

      Oh right, so you spend 30 and get 2 back, that make sense? Also where does the two billion go and to whom? Only this morning there was a news report that the homeless are to be provided with surplus army food rations to help them feed themselves, in 21st century Britain! The more things change the more they stay the same.

      Elvis Has left the building I think you misunderstood. And by the way, it isn't over 30 million. That is a figure thought up by a catering company if everything was paid at cost. Suppliers would fall over themselves to give a discount. The Cambridge wedding was charged at 6.5 million for security. This, being smaller and outside London will be less. Homelessness is a scourge, but doesn't get affected by the wedding. Two billion pounds coming into the economy can help. But that is down to politicians not the Royal Family. Maybe the business people of Windsor who will have made money this weekend would like to do something positive.

    I think it is disgusting the amount of public money has been poured into this wedding,the Royals are Multi Millionaires in their own right and should not expect the tax payer to pick up the bill,it's amazing how money suddenly appears for this sort of thing when there are people living on the streets and people going to food banks,I am not anti Royal but let's have a bit of fair play because it gives Corbyn a massive axe to grind and the worst of all he's right.

    • @mscott3918
      @mscott3918 6 лет назад

      David Ellis Whatever it has cost, it's estimated that the wedding has benefited the economy by two billion pounds.

      The actual wedding and celebrations is paid for privately. The security is paid for by the government as they do with any major sporting or cultural event where there’ll be lots of people present

    Solution - Windsor Castle a lot of rooms...

  • @FeedScrn
    @FeedScrn 6 лет назад +3

    Good temporary solution: Most homeless,.. at least those coherent enough and able to drive would appreciate a car, or for a couple - a van ... given or loaned to them. It's shelter. They probably don't need overnight heat, but if they do, people seem to like the propane Buddy Heater. Maybe the gov can provide electric hookups with oil-filled space heaters in the cold months.... kind of like a drive-in. In cities like LA or in Florida - probably just a sleeping bag or a couple of blankets, and a pillow would do. Give them a weekly gasoline allowance, free vehicle maintenance, insurance, and special license plates as well. All these would be ran by the government, to keep these vehicles running....
    Yes it will cost money, but this is a lot cheaper than the $millions that is spent on stick-and-brick public housing now. IMO, housing the homeless in buildings is a 20th century, expensive now obsolete solution... Buildings built as public housing almost always degenerate into massive slums... where even the people who live there want to leave. They also breed ill will for people who live near them as well. NIMBY.
    The homeless in vehicles is safer for them than sleeping in homeless shelters, on the street in some corner or doorway, or in 'the projects'.. Houseless, no longer homeless. Sometimes mobility can make all the difference.
    Soup kitchens should remain open for those who can use them.
    There's a whole community who live in cars and vans - who actually like it. See youtube channel Cheap RV Living (all one word- no spaces), Rolling Earth-Ship, etc. for details.

    All this nonsense about the Royal Wedding and the homeless being moved on,a lot of people are saying get a job and get off benefits,if they have no address they can't claim benefits as they don't exist,it's a pity they don't get the same treatment as the refugee immigrants who come here and get housed with everything they need,pots,pans,cutlery,fridge,washing machine,beds,furniture and anything else they need,I know this happens because my friend supplies it all,it's a disgrace.

    Just saying that if anyone was wondering, the royal wedding cost $45 million USD. Instead of using that money for the homeless, they used it on the wedding.

    We have this exact issue of homelessness along with the same reasoning behind it in our inner city here in Kansas City, Kansas. Our Church has outreach ministries that include men and women's transitional housing then onto their independent housing in apartments. We help them find employment to gain their independence. For those who end up back on the street, 99% of the time it's the addiction. Whether it's alcohol, meth, crack, you name it. And they want nothing more than to be free of their addiction. We had a man last month who finally gained employment, we found him an apartment and within weeks, got high and jumped out of his apartment window. He's a good man but is fighting to kick the hold that meth has on him.
    In the meantime, we open our doors as a cold weather shelter in the winter and on the weekends during the summer, spring and fall. We serve dinners, talk and work with them on the resources that our city offers. Christ used the physical needs of people to feed people spiritually and it's his example we do our best to follow. It's a never ending uphill, all energy, constant check in and up on battle that we refuse to throw the towel in on.

    Looks to me like they mainly choose this lifestyle. On the other hand, it's too bad that the old workhouses were done away with years ago. At least they would have had some place to go with a roof over their heads, etc etc.

      They don't necessarily choose this lifestyle. They're damaged and lost souls with no proclivity for self care. And this is the unfortunate result. You have to have the will to pull yourself out of the darkness. Sadly there can be comfort in the suffering if its all you know.
