    This is one of the most useful plugins I have tried for 2 years. Simply put: You design your own compressor character and dynamic EQ. It's all about character. It's an EQ, compressor, saturator in once. I am sure you can recreate all the compressor styles that are on the market. But more extreme, if you want. I think I will stop buying vintage emulations now. It's obsolete.

    Small hint, eq -> comp > eq is how "single band" works, when it's in multi mode, you're actually pushing those frequencies into a multiband compressor ;)

    Watched full, watched other videos, been on the website... I just can't understand where this TONAL COMPRESSION should in any way be different from a multiband...
    FabFilter Pro-MB can do the same push pull thing... it's just a make up gain knob...
    ...actually you can even be more precise.

    Looks to me like (before i finished watching the vid...) a compressor, the ratio is key. So the compressor ratio is doing all the EQ / mod / etc. changes in ratio above the threshold, but instead of amplitude in a normal compressor, you are allowing certain EQ balances to move through at certain levels, with the combined pull / attack release settings - allowing super fine tweaking of where and when saturation mods are applied. I may be wrong, but I definitely want to give it a play :-) So, set your amplitude threshold, then ratio, then the EQ changes are limited / compressed above / below that level... I think... SO you can maintain volume, but have increased saturation at certain points / bands above certain levels you determine...

    You can implement most of the ideas from Dragon Fire by using an emphasis EQ and any compressor (see the great video on emphasis EQ by Dan Worrall), in Reaper you can link EQs before and after the compressor, and even play with the dry/wet knobs to apply EQ after compression

      @nrec 3 года назад +1

      @@theopbmusic I suggest to visit the webpage, we made a lot of nice videos to explain how it works. This is a nice review at first sight without going deep, but actually as default the compressor is a multiband compressor, and when you push the frequencies, you are not actually equalizing, you are pushing them more into compression. Then when you pass to "single" mode, it really behaves as eq + comp + eq, but that's a secondary use

    • @theopbmusic

    I would say it´s a nice plugin, but the marketing text makes more out of it than it is (how surprising). It looks and sounds more like a normal eq->comp->eq->clip chain combination. Melda has nice alternatives with the spectral/dynamics plugs (if you like spectral crossovers or adjustable threshold curves), ProAudioDSP DSM is a compressor with adjustable threshold curves (was using this a decade ago) and also the melda turbo comp allows you to design your own compressor (if you want to do that). ( i dont like meldas interfaces but they have nice ideas and sound quality). Then the "push and pull" graph sounds more like a fancy worded "transient shaper" to me. You can probably rebuild this whole plugin in any daw just by inserting eqs, comp, clipper and transient shaper in the right order :D

    • @STAR0SS
      @STAR0SS 3 года назад +3

      Seems to me like they reparametrized a dynamic EQ to make it seems different, then buried the whole thing under tons of marketing. Looks like it worked too !

    Ok, I like this plugin, basically a MB comp but you boost (or makeup) rather than cut the frequencies you're trying to compress. also they've cut out all the excess features, like seeing the specific gain reduction of each cut or boost, and having specific attack/release settings for each. Also at first I thought it weird that you have no idea of how much your compressing the bands relative to the whole mix, but I actually see that as yet another unnecessary inclusion, because ultimately your trying to only do around 1-5 db of GR anyway. I just wonder if the amount of GR is proportional to the amount boosted or cut? so that it works out to be a perfect gain makeup. Also, would've been great if they'd opted to include various classic compressor profiles, as in FET, VCA and OPTO instead of opting for a drive knob. Personally I pick my compressor on it's sound rather than utility, and one of the reasons I rarely ever use MB comps is because they typically have a fairly clean or indeed one-track sound.

I feel like it should be up by the SOLO in the menu bar (like the FLIP is in their PLATE) The feature I'm missing is the ability to ISOLATE frequencies from the PULL so I could cut things going into the compressor but not have them add back in. Like what if I want to cut some LMF and HF to make the compressor react differently but I only want to add the highs back in post-compression? Maybe the opposite too like the ability to set an EQ band only POST Compression? Not sure I like it enough to learn it fully and, TBH name is cringe/embarrassing but still checking it out.

And I get that there are so many controls here, you don't want to busy it up with labels. But if you're going to give us novel controls like Curve, RMS & Knee, shouldn't the UI give us a hint to what it means to turn it up? The website suggests that Curve turned down is fast release, up is slow. If you're not going to show that Time is the units or that up==slow, I somewhat doubt users will use it correctly. Labels would be nice. If not that, then how 'bout tool tips? First rule of UX, don't make me think!

    Hey Wytse. Watching your good vids now for a long time. First thxs for your work and passion. I think you should go back to your old Mic setup. Listen to this video yourselve again (dynamics /impact of the mic proximity and the abscence of the room sound). Your old setup was much more natural; dynamics and tonewize (was it an omni lavallier mic?..). Also balance room vs direct sound was much better. Well... it's not a real annoyance, but I know you are interested in those things as well.
    Greetings
