@@DaveJBLbecause the blue liners need a French speaking coach. The Canadiens better move into the 21 century and hire the best or they will never win a cup.
MSL may be a lot of things including a great hockey player, but he is not is an NHL coach. Benching Arber Xhekaj while playing other D men who make more mistakes and don’t have anywhere near his talent makes fans wonder whether MSL is an insecure coach who dislikes Xhekaj’s popularity with fans the same way MT and MB had a thing against PK. It may be time for the ‘Sheriff’ to get out of ‘Dodge’ for his own career development rather than have this huge talent squandered by an organization that still has no idea about how to develop young players.
Giving "Marty" any credit for anything at this point is plain silly. May work great for your next headline or hot quote. As for analysis, it sucks. Good players seldom make good coaches. Larry Robinson for a consultant. Carboneau/ Lemaire face-offs.
When your dumb coach puts 3 figure skaters like Matheson, Hutson, and Barron in the same line up, should we be surprised about defensive issues ? What a joke.....
Xhekaj is the easy guy to bench. He's got a new contract and they want to keep him. - 3 lines are not scoring and are not getting possession. no forechecking or aggressive play. - The defence play is not able to do the job without the forward working.
The first big mistake of the administration was the "in the mix" message to the fans. They we're never going to be in the mix. Kirby was never coming back full strength (and Laine will not either). Lane Hutson is wonder-boy but overall he won't be a net positive this early in his career (like Quinn Hughes before him -24)
When the D is collectively -23 after a short number of games, you have to know there is a major problem!!! Kirby Dach is -10! I think St Louis must shoulder some of the blame!!!
It's over a year that I've been screaming at the top of my lungs: ROBIDAS AND LETOWSKI ARE INCOMPETENT. And if MSL can't see something that obvious...then what does that say about his quality as a coach? Doesn't matter who we draft and who we trade for if we don't have a coaching staff to guide and help players improve.
Since MSL is there there as been no defense, that's the problem no1, if a night the goalie gives you a chance to win then you have a small chance but we do not have Carey to give us a chance every night.
U don't have to make the same comments 3 to 4 days in a row on several different Media platforms. The habs should bring an assistant in to help out. Don't go making moves that will cost us down the road. Thanks Kevin from Halifax NS
Maybe they're replacing veterans on the blue line with rookies too quickly. There's no harm in leaving players down in the AHL for an extra year. Good teams are often forced to keep young, talented players in the minors.
Habs should hire a center only specialist to work with Dach and other centers. An old vet who can teach tricks of the trade like cheating on faceoffs etc and teach positioning where to be what to look out for etc etc to Dach and the centers.
The rebuild should be over at this point! We have enough young guys in the system and enough young guys on the team already! Now it’s time to start filling out the roster with veterans and role players. Create a checking line. Get your goaltending in check. Create a system. Everything needs to change!

Rangers land a big free agent, why can't Habs? The dirty little secret is that no one wants to play in Canada, where you have taxes to pay and are recognized on the street, and certainly not in Montreal, with a hockey history no one can live up to and fans who have to be at least 40 to even remember what it's like to celebrate a Cup. Add in the fact that the NHL is an American professional league with a few legacy Canadian franchises and that couldn't give a rat's glute for Canada, the fact that hockey is now a niche sport for the well-off, like tennis, and it's hard to work any enthusiasm any more for the NHL. Good luck to the Habs, but the panelists point to the problem: a lack of urgency on the ice. It doesn't matter if you win or lose: you're making millions.
The core of this team is Guhle, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield. They were missing two of them. The habs are already a bottom 5 team with the core 4 in the lineup. With two of them missing, it quickly becomes a trainwreck. Savard and Gallagher can't keep up anymore. Don't expect those vets to tell the kids to try harder.
They are not in the fight. They're soft, and slow, and not engaged. Easy to play against. Pezz, Xhekaj, Anderson need to step up and drag this team into a real battle. Hit everything... HARD! and let the refs sort it out. They need a wake-up call. MSL seems to want them to be 'smart' and not hard. F that!
The D is soft. Gulhe is going to be a good one, but he is not a bull. Xhekaj has good numbers even though he has made some mistakes, but he is a bull. Struble should be harder to play against, he plays soft. We have offensive D men but we need the hard hitters who make the other team think about running around in our end. The Rangers owned our end of the ice.
Youngsters getting worked over and injured, points out the lack of serious development & hitting training, and video scouting to address who is on the ice. Hab's are small and their collective, defensive details are lacking. Secondary coaches need to be replaced! Fundamentals are lacking, example: not skating through the whistle, trying to hot dog the F1 when you are the last D back...these are IQ-talent issues. All the skill hype is useless, when your young guys don't have the needed IQ. They really miss Kovacevic who was a plus minus leader and was a smart person, he knows how to simplify the game. Matheson is a hero, being injured but still trying to get after the much bigger Trouba. MSL needs to have Arber and Prez in the game, that is on him. He needs plans not 'concepts'. By the way "concepts" mirrors Trumps language, no 'plans' just 'concepts'.
They have been taking wayyyyy too many stupid penalties. You can't expect to win when you are playing shorthanded for 30% of the game. They actually didn't play terribly against the Rangers in regard to offense, but defensively they made too many mistakes.
