It's incredible how popular the first Sennheisers are even today, 1.5 yrs after release. So many competitors released buds but the first gen held their ground when it came to sound quality. I think the second gen momentum true wireless buds really improved the buds in all the right places.
Mike O'Brien yeah the only two complaints I had of the first were the obvious early adopter bugs. Since it was an early model, when the case died the buds wouldn’t go to sleep and would stay connected to my phone. Or if the case died they would turn on and connect automatically. But months after I got them sennheieser had a revision.
*A QUICK UPDATE* for anyone who watched Flossy's review and is confused about the master/slave bud connection: I understand that he showed the left bud working independently, but after speaking with Sennheiser, they confirmed that it is not possible to listen to the left bud while the right is in the case. Sennheiser believes Flossy must have improperly placed the earbud in the case, and thus the right never disconnected (and was not charging either). It is not possible for the left earbud to play music while the right is in the case charging with this master/slave bud connection. I own a pair of the original Sennheisers and the sound is simply great for wireless earbuds. But I had a problem with their box since the hinge is very fragile and it broke in about 9 months just out of regular use. And in a year, the right earbud works in fits and starts. Which isn't great for a product at this price point. I decided to replace them with the Airpods Pro and bought them blind since I couldn't test them where I live given Covid, and many other reviews put the sound between these two fairly close. But the Airpods Pro sound terrible for music. I was also surprised that all the EQ settings that you could toggle through on the iPhone made the sound worse. The Airpod Pros actually sound worse than Apple's wired earphones. The reviewer is spot on in terms of the sound quality, as there's simply no comparison between the two. The Sennheisers are way better.
Listening in Sennheiser TW1 and can’t control my laughter when you said “Battery life is where Sennheisers pull ahead” because this is where every other earbud pulled ahead of Sennheiser TW1 - Looks like their engineers took the criticism to heart and did a wonderful job! Yeah that has been a heavily requested video. I might compare those two soon. Also, I was wondering who would be the first to notice I got a hair cut for the additional clips and B-Roll!
@@MikeOBrienMedia great comparison, personally I would go for the SENN'S due to the extra customisations within the application and the ANC, I am an audiophile so sound quality is most important. Keep the great videos coming as you are one of my favourite tech reviewers. Supporting your channel from across the pond in dear old blighty.
Honestly, based off of the 1st gen MTWS, WF1000XM3 will sound very similar with a bigger, deeper bass. Sony has better ANC, but I personally disable ANC as to me, its a sound quality destroying gimmick.
The Sennes sound significantly better. I've owned both. Sony doesn't compare to the sound pass through. And the overall sound stage on the Sennes is superior. My opinion, but I sent the Sonys back. Sennheisers were much more enjoyable and impressive.
Great video! Although I would add that the microphone seems to work better in the Airpods, especially when there is a lot of background noise, so if you are someone that has a lot of meetings, this is something to be considered.
I have Both the mtw2’s and the AirPods pros, they have a set of different sized buds for your fit which should make it more likely to not fall out during workouts. But i been using them both working out and to me the mtw2’s stay in my ear way more secure than the AirPods pros.
Do you experience the "bubble pop up" sound whenever you start any song, or youtube? or it is considered to be a signal that the earbud are about to start music? if it's the signal, it's really annoying for me
Thanks for the sincere & honest attempt to compare. I think the real answer is, we have an embarrassment of riches, that gives us choice. I’ve owned my AirPod Pros for more than 3 months and I am not unhappy with any feature that makes me look at any other product. I am sure that the Senneheisers are ‘better’ with some features, if that is what is important to you or if you own a non-Apple phone. But I think Apple knocked it out of the ballpark for owners of other Apple products. If you are a general user who owns other Apple Products, your reasons for looking elsewhere are next to nonexistent. If you are an audiophile of any sort, then you have reason to consider both. But I think it’s pretty obvious which audience is bigger. (BTW, your notice of battery usage is true, but previously I bought Beats over the ear headphones because of the 40 hr battery life. Only to find out, after buying regular AirPods, my listening time rarely exceeded 45 minutes. So I made a purchasing decision based on a feature I don’t ever use.)
I would probably agree to you, if I wasn't an owner of over the ear headphones with good sounds quality. After that, listening to anything with ok sounds quality (AP pro are ok in my book) is really hard.
I have my AirPods Pro now for three days and they are stuttering a lot. Then I try something (play/pause), (activate/deaktivate ANC) then it works again until I open the next app. For 249 bucks I'm not really convinced. Does it depend on my slow iPhone SE 2016 (A9) processor?
I have both of these earbuds. Here are some things I've noticed during 6 months or so using them interchangeably. When pairing with android devices, you need to pump the volume above the safe level sometimes in order to hear the sound decently whereas with the Sennheiser you don't have to. When pairing with iphones or ipads you don't have that issue. Probably because they are in the same ecosystem!? I usually listen to podcasts or audiobooks before sleeping and I find the airpods pro way more comfortable especially when you want to turn on one side. On phone calls, the airpods pro do a much better job when with the Sennheiser you might sound like yelling (to those around you) at times.
@@buivutuduy ah okay. Sucks that the battery life isn’t the best on AirPods Pro. One more thing though, generally overall which would you prefer? And is AirPods Pro sound quality overall atleast decent? Everyone always says how they’re like really bad.
@@buivutuduy also, I own the Sennheiser momentum true wireless 2 too, I love the sound quality but the earbuds just get a bit tiring with the comfortability. Might try out the AirPods Pro.

Swicting to AirPods pro soon, since i also have an iPhone anyways. But had no problems with the connection with the sennheisers. Loved the Sound.
I agree with the look. Neither are very organic, but in the case of the Sennies, there are no hard edges on the human body. They remind me of the bolts on the neck of the Frankenstein monster.
As a business user, Airpods Pro works for me. smaller case to put in the pocket, fast pairing with iPhones/Mac and much better microphones for phone calls and conferencing
I've had them for one month....if you want quality sound this is the best pair of true wireless.... QUALITY SOUND BLASTS ANYTHING ELSE OUT IN THE MARKET
for some soundquality is the only important. i also had both, compared a week and sent the sennheisers back. sound is way better, but at everything else the airpods win it for me.
New subscriber! You definitely should have more subscribers you are very thorough in your reviews I can appreciate that great work keep it up my friend
Thanks! Yes, you can tap and hold the sennheiser buds' touchpads to adjust the volume. Some other reviewers are saying you cannot and that is not true. The app does not show that function right now, but I assure you, it exists!
Are the Sennheiser’s really large in your ear? I have AirPods and they’re not very comfortable in my ear (they fall out a lot) so I’m wondering what earbuds would be more comfortable if anyone can relate…?
Do the Sennheisers have Bluetooth multipoint? Where you can connect to 2 devices at once and answer calls on both devices without any other messing around, just by picking up the call
I own both and many other "true wireless earphones" and Sennheiser are the go to choice every time. Sound is clear, vibrant, customizable, bass is tight and deep, without boominess. One touch Pause/play/skip/NC activation. Make iPhone earbuds look like garbage in comparison. The two drawbacks - Sennheiser has low battery life. Always trying to connect while not using. Phone call quality is poor. Underperforming mic.
For the senheisers, do you need to repair every time when you switch to another device? Or you can disconnect in the old device and reconnect in the new device in the Bluetooth settings? This is very important for miltiple device users. Thx in advance, great review!
Haha, I thought you meant repair as in mend them until I read the second sentence you wrote. It's still early here and I have not had my coffee yet. Lol
Mike . I want to know when using sennheiser right earbud alone , does it say 10% battery in smart control app ? Mine shows like that and die after a few mins even though it's fully charged. I don't know if I have the defective one or not. Thank you
Hi Mike, is really the Sennheiser mic so bad? How did you test it? Did you try both Apple and Sennheiser earbuds with real calls? I’m both a long time Apple and Sennheiser user and my use will be 20%-50% music and podcast during sport and 80%-50% calls (phone, facetime, whatsapp, etc.), using an Apple echosystem… the Sennheiser mic seems to be a dealbreaker in your test, but you didn’t mention it in the video final recap and other reviews seem to say the mic is fine, but according to your tests it is almost unusable. What is your recommendation for my use case?
The test should be taken for relative quality only. I test by recording the audio with an app that allows me to capture the bluetooth audio but I am searching for a better app (because I believe the actual call quality may be actually slightly better than the app is able to capture)
I am very interested in a comparison between Sennheiser Momentum 2 and Bose QC Earbuds. If you could do it, it would be very useful for me. Really thanks

Great Job! Thanks for comprehensive review.
Great video! Although I would add that the microphone seems to work better in the Airpods, especially when there is a lot of background noise, so if you are someone that has a lot of meetings, this is something to be considered.
Can you comfortably lay on your side with these sennheisers on?
Just subscribed to you. Great comparison, first reviewer who actually made sense and sounded genuine.
Sennheiser is actually famous for their sounds and Mic.
What about when working out, which ones stay in your ears or move less?
I have Both the mtw2’s and the AirPods pros, they have a set of different sized buds for your fit which should make it more likely to not fall out during workouts. But i been using them both working out and to me the mtw2’s stay in my ear way more secure than the AirPods pros.
Really appreciate your objective wireless earbuds reviews. No marketing BS, just great information. Thanks!
I have an iPhone, and Apple Watch, but I'm really thinking about getting the Senn's tbh. I just hope it's worth it.
Supposedly there has been an update that seems to significantly increase call quality on the Senn's :D I definitely know which to choose now.
Hows the pairing with the sennheisers ?
Which are overall more comfortable for you?
@@areebhussain321 I must say the apple airpods pro. There's one more thing I want to add, the airpods pro don't have as good battery life :(
@@buivutuduy ah okay.
@@areebhussain321 the airpods pro are my go-to when it comes to listening to podcast or phone calls but when I want to enjoy music then it has to be the sennheiser.
Damn it. I want easy compatibility with my iPhone and a great quality. So torn.
Same
I own the sennheisers. They are awesome. Overall the best Earbuds i have owned. The only thing i dislike is they look weird on me “ becourse of the buildsize.
I NEED HELP.. I don't know which one to buy.. Sennheiser or Bang& olufsen beoplay e8.. Who is better for Android??
The Airpods definitely beat the Sennheisers when it comes to the microphone test
you forgot the most important category; ease of use and here the APP wins by far (I had both)
for some soundquality is the only important. i also had both, compared a week and sent the sennheisers back. sound is way better, but at everything else the airpods win it for me.
Djush can you explain? AirPod is better?
Do the momentum 2’s have that annoying air pocket effect in the ears? I traded my Jaybird vistas for the AirPods Pro because of that.
How good are the for sports?
Which one would go for?
New subscriber! You definitely should have more subscribers you are very thorough in your reviews I can appreciate that great work keep it up my friend
Thanks.. nice review.. you can press and hold to control the volume.. correct?
Thanks! Yes, you can tap and hold the sennheiser buds' touchpads to adjust the volume. Some other reviewers are saying you cannot and that is not true. The app does not show that function right now, but I assure you, it exists!
Thanks dude, very good, you put a lot of work on explaning
Is the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2 now comparable to wired iems? Or does any wired iems still sound better?
Did they fixed the battery issue with the seinheisser? That they would lose battery witout using them
When you have an iPhone 11 and want to use it with the Sennheisers, can you use "Hey Siri" then?
Are the Sennheiser’s really large in your ear? I have AirPods and they’re not very comfortable in my ear (they fall out a lot) so I’m wondering what earbuds would be more comfortable if anyone can relate…?
Do the Sennheisers have Bluetooth multipoint? Where you can connect to 2 devices at once and answer calls on both devices without any other messing around, just by picking up the call
How secure are the momentum’s compared to the AirPods? I can’t keep the AirPods in especially when I’m sweating.
Well fr, momentum buds works for the gym unlike the airpodspro
@@izlitty5674 thank you for the response!
Very clearly explained man...
very detailed review. great job Mike!
excellent review, made my decision clear. good job!
update: 2nd month in use, these headphones are a KILLER (best sound i have ever experienced in a wireless headphone so far)
What did you get
I own both and many other "true wireless earphones" and Sennheiser are the go to choice every time.
Hi-do the sennheiser momentum, 1st fen, or 2nd gen have multipoint like the AirPods?
Great microphone test!
Momentum TW 2 ❤❤❤
Very well made video. Good job 👍
Lol
좋은 리뷰네요. 글로 정리해놓은 점도 참 좋습니다.
Im your subscriber from today
ok
Wow this was extremely helpful! Thank you!
Anyway I can turn up the volume? Feels like it’s on 75% for safety
This review was amazing in content and quality. Definitely got my sub
What Bluetooth voice recorder did you use for the test? Very useful👌
Mike . I want to know when using sennheiser right earbud alone , does it say 10% battery in smart control app ?
Mine shows like that and die after a few mins even though it's fully charged.
I don't know if I have the defective one or not. Thank you
Thank you Mike
@@MikeOBrienMedia Did you use iOS or Android? Could you test with iOS voice memos and with a facetime voice call?
Thank you in advance.
I am very interested in a comparison between Sennheiser Momentum 2 and Bose QC Earbuds. If you could do it, it would be very useful for me. Really thanks
Thank you for your review and comparison, for audiobooks and podcasts, would you recommend the Sennheiser over the Airpods pro? Thanks
Great comparison review
Detailed review as a commoner. No wireless charging is a bit of a bummer for the 300$ tag, as most top end phones will now support reverse wireless charging going forward. Cheers. Keep up.
Thanks! I am glad you liked the video! I agree that wireless charging would have been a nice add to make these essentially the first "perfect" pair of earbuds but oh well
Do the sennheisers fit everyone?
How about the sennheiser lag? When connecting to tv? Airpods pro has no lag.
Did Sennheiser fix the battery leaking issue they had with the first generation? I am angry, they promised to fix it on gen1, but never did.
Yes, they fixed both of those issues with these buds!
Would you recommend these for the gym? i already have the powerbeats pro but i don´t like how they sound
Why you don´t like how they sound?
Omar0722 Same here, the outside noise is such a bummer and it's not an audiophile range kinda earphone to me
@@СтефанОрешаров I got them today and they are very quiet and the bass is bad
is the MTW comfortable wearing for sleeping?
🎧 On Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2. Quite a detail review 👍
How does ANC compare to sony xm3 buds?
@Mike are you planning on comparing the senn’s against the Jabra 75t, appologies if you already have couldn’t find
No point I have tried then side by side, there really isn't any comparison, the Senny like the Sony's, are in a different ballpark
