Bro thats your garbage sound signature preference. Majority of top sennheisers sound same including IE900. They have a NOTCH around 3-4k instead of a SHOUTY HARMAN BUMP and your ears trained to hear that shitty BUMP. its not quality its making stereo sound feel very NARROW and give you extremely 'in your head'' feeling. Sennheiser kind of tuning gives you airy and WIDE feeling wiht that NOTCH. campfire andromeda 2020, edifier w240tn, tanchjim OLA, IE800 etc have this NOTCHHHH you love that NOTCH or you hate that NOTCH. its the signature to give wide feeling on IEMS.
@@cenen7021 Through my amp and bookshelf speakers plus bass bin, the stock sound doesn't sound great, the retuned sound did not sound great either and would probably wear me out with listening fatigue sooner than later. Sound is subjective to each listener; of course. Listening through headphones may have been better. I still have my Sennheiser momentum TW 2's, still going strong and sound great, no tweeking needed. Flac box for ios has a 10 band EQ, not needed for the momentum 2's, I do use it for other earbuds though.

I just read another review which said these Sennheiser Momentum 4 earbuds are the best earbuds of all when it comes to sound, beating every other competitor (Sony, Airpods Pro, Bose etc) out there at the moment, and then I listen to your review which is critical. No wonder it's impossible for buyers to know what to believe and who to trust and therefore what to buy.
Honestly, I don’t trust 80% of people reviewing audio. So many have horrible ears and taste and have no idea what they’re talking about. Sometimes they describe something about earbuds or headphones I have or have reviewed and I have no idea how they could possibly say something like that unless they have an untrained ear and it’s, for lack of a better word, normie take. You have to look at some products that you know and hear them for yourself and see if what you hear matches what they say. For me, I try to provide as many objective samples as possible and even show the A/B examples of default EQ, and my custom EQ gives some weight that I know what I’m talking about because I can intentionally get a specific sound I’m going for. I can even describe why I’m doing it the way I am and what it does because I can correlate the issues I hear with the problem and fix it. Most people have no idea how to even do that, and I’d be hesitant about those reviews. Not every tech reviewer is an expert at every kind of tech. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Watch accordingly. I view audio products from the perspective of a Audio Engineer that focuses on MIXING. I'm a MIXING ENGINEER which means Mix the music and things you listen to and adjust it to sound the way I want it to sound for the end user. I'm NOT an audiophile. I do not care about graphs and all the stuff they care about. I care about how to make things sound good, that's why I EQ so much. Most audiophiles are pretty strict about not EQing things. Also, keep in mind that I’m literally being paid by Sennheiser to make content on their own platforms, yet I’m still critical of them. Money doesn’t sway me. Definitely something to consider when you evaluate the integrity of my reviews.
@thisistechtoday I totally disagree with this. Of course, the sound you hear may vary from person to person. I used TWS 1,2,3 and 4. I can say that 3 and 4 are almost the same. 2 sucked. 1 was broken. In the 4th version, the sound is very clear and the volume is very sufficient, just like Apple AirPods Pro 2. But you can never get the detailed sounds and bass intensity in AirPods Pro 2 as in TWS 3/4. How do I know if a headphone is good? not by putting it through any electronic testing. If it gives me pleasure when I listen to a song I don't like, it means I've found the best headphones. Sennheiser headphones can definitely do this.. In summary, TWS4 is a headset that gives the most detailed sound and where you can hear the best bass. Incomparably better than Airpods
I own EX2s, Ap P2, AZ80s and MTW4s. For volume and best quality sound and deep rich bass, the EX2 is my undisputed champ. Then the MTW4s, 3rd AZ80, Ap P2 last. Each of these excels at one thing but I place the MTW4s as my favorite earbud because they sound close to the EX2s and fit the best to my ears, plus the app has great features. It depends on what you prioritize because none of these does everything well and at the end of the day fit and sound preference is subjective, hell we listen to different music which has an effect on how you want it to sound. The Ap P2 have the best ANC but the worst fit for me. My review would say they rather suck but if they fit great to you, one might say they're amazing. Ultimately you'll have to purchase one and make your choice, all the reputable brands have return policies. I returned the Sony XM5s 15 minutes after opening for example, for me they were horrible.
I used to MTW3, since the same issue occurs for 3 times. I decided to buy Denon PerL Pro. Honestly, the sound quality way better than MTW3, I hope the replacement unit for my MTW3 will be MTW4 next month so I can compare it both
CORRECTION at 6:01 - That is ANC mode. Not sure where my brain was during both the tests and edit. I must have hypnotized myself into thinking it was transparency because I said it on camera that I wrote it on screen. 🤦♂
I just fixed my TW3 last night. Open the case and shock the battery with a 5 V source. My buds are still under warranty period. Just safe my own time. Some guys said they changed few pairs during the warranty. Don't know how true is that
This is exactly how I felt when I bought them yesterday. Every reviewer is saying they sound so great best in the class but they sounded extremely muddy and flat to me. I was regretting my purchase, then I saw this video got the membership and tried the custom EQ. Bro let me tell you this dude isn't lying about the 7mm driver being more than capable of producing the quality entire earphone flipped on its head extremely crisp highs, instrument separation and clear mids. My only suggestion would be to crack 62hz a Lil bit to get that energy in songs other than the membership is worth it for the eq itself

Over the last couple weeks I've tried the Bose quietcomfort ultra's, Sony 1000xm5's, the Jabra elite 10's and these Momentum true wireless 4's. And I have to say overall these Sennheiser momentum 4's not only have the best sound but are also overall the best IMO. I will say when I first put them in I was very disappointed. But then I adjusted them properly in my ears and it made a WORLD of difference. I was blown away. I've been reading some bad reviews online from people that have purchased them complaining about sound quality and bass. I'm wondering if they just didn't have them fitted properly. The only other true wireless earbuds I want to give a try are the Technics AZ80's. But I absolutely LOVE the sennheiser's so much that I'm sticking with them. I went back to android from iPhone so I wanted to replace my airpods pro 2's, which is how all this started for me. These definitely out perform the airpods.
What you said about losing customers is so spot on, I'm ready to buy my next TW earbuds and I'm not sure I want to get the sennheiser's anymore. That actually makes me upset
i have been using Momentum 3s for last 2 years since it was launched and this is my 3rd piece because i get to get it the 3rd time from warranty as 1 of the earpiece would stop charging and i was blaming myself as i might have somehow broke it. Thank you for clearing it out. I feel relaxed now.
@@Bachwaa I bought the mtw3 back in November 2022. Now one of them stopped working. Senheiser is replacing them with the mtw4 for free. I hope they will last a little longer this time.
I currently have the MTW3s for about 8 months now, both earbuds experienced the same as yours. It turns out this is a battery issue when they get lower voltage for it to activate. It is a shame that a company this established built a product that doesn't seem to be quality checked before it's public release. I will never again trust Sennheiser when it comes to battery-equipped device.
@@Rocket-mind i would suggest to try Audio Technica, they have amazing sounding products, far better in price to performance as well. I bought TWS3 for the sound but i am not really happy with it. my 1more wired headphones 60$ are way better in terms of sound quality.
Another audio engineer chiming in: These don't sound dark to me at all, and I find no need to EQ in any more higher frequencies. Calling the sound mushy and "being under a couch" sounds like insanity from my experience. The separation is really good IMO. I find it very interesting that we can have such a different experience. Are our ears that different, or is "good" sound just that subjective? The five band EQ isn't great tho like you are saying, the compression it makes it pretty useless.
Had the same exp at home but as soon i tryd them in the gym it was way to much bass and mean waaaayyy to much. I did EQ the the hole low end down and pushed the highend almost to max to get that clarity out of these and get that subwoofer sounding like feel away.
I guess we all hear things differently and sound is highly subjective, except for the technicalities producing it. You can't measure music enjoyment. To me, every sound is well separated enough. Yes, bass bleeds a little bit into the highs, but that's a sacrifice a lot of people take to have a more serene "aura" kind of bass that feels warm and not sharp. The suggested profile sounds "clearer" but it feels like my eardrums are attacked by knives. I guess, what a lot of people miss, is that those things can sound different at different volumes. Those things have to be mentioned. I like to listen very loud, so I can hear everything clear while being surrounded by the warm but responsive bass. If I would listen to it more silently, yes, the highs will be drowned more interestingly and this profile makes more sense in that case, also reducing the harshness of the elevated highs. I think volume is critical and you can only fully enjoy them with higher volume, otherwise you can of course alsways EQ them to preference.
After my MTW 3 broke recently, I bought the MTW 4 and most reviews state that they sound very similar to the version 3. Which I can hardly believe. I would be very interested in a direct comparison between the two, and as of now I would judge the 3 are superior. The ANC mode is changing the sound profile massively (Firmware 5.6.1), gaining bass which you cannot replicate using the EQ. Such great changes in the sound profile when turning ANC on or off, should not be that noticeable. The lack in space is omnipresent, also different from the 3. I played with the EQ over 5h now and I cannot get them to sound as the 3, which is a huge bummer. They do not sound bad, they sound great, but something is always missing no matter what you do. Looking forward to in-depth analysis if this is planned.

@teku412 I have the over ear M4's. I don't have these, M4's are really good! However, Sony xm5 has amazing anc and more clarity when listening to music.
I am glad they can be tuned to be more audiophile quality. I just bought these after some serious research but I am still very new to all this. For context I am upgrading from the Mpow M30s which are about 30 dollars. Tried out my dad's 300 dollar Sennheiser headphones and realized I bought a bunch of high quality music that I am not nearly getting to hear properly. I knew there would need to be some tuning with EQ but did not realize how much was going to be needed. Will be joining to get the audio profile because it did sound much more like what I want.

Thanks for the honest review. A year and a half ago I purchased a pair of Sennheiser HD 560S headphones and I love them, the clarity is second-to-none compared to any other pair of headphones I've ever used. So naturally I began looking into what options they had available for earbuds and figured of course, these ones must be good. Makes me very glad that I decided to watch this video first. I'll be sure to watch other videos of yours to make sure I'm getting some that'll truly be worth it.
I own both and for outright sound quality, the EX2s are better. But the EX2 have almost zero ANC, and ambient pass through is weak, plus their app is abysmal. I place the MTW4s above for the overall package, but if it's great quality sound ang higher volume, richer bass, the EX2 is the winner.
I more than just liked it!! Very informative, comprehensive and entertaining!! Addressed all my queries!! I could hear the difference between the stock EQ and your EQ from my TV speakers. Your own custom EQ made these buds come alive - sounded so much better but of course in most cases the stock EQ is too flat and boring just like other brands. I suppose that's why they give you this adjustable EQ. The wind reduction feature is very effective and the ANC is better than the TW M3s'. I don't really care about the transparency or spatial audio features. I think Sennheiser just wants us to create an account and use their personalised EQ feature. They done the same thing with their M2s', made them come alive... But I just used the standard EQ in the app for my M3s' and that made them sound dope!! I do prefer the V-shape sound signature...
To be honest, I prefer the stock EQ rather than your custom EQ. Your custom EQ has too much sibilance for my taste. I'm also quite disappointed with the microphone performance during calls, Sennheiser could have done better. But overall they seem like a solid choice.

@@ThisIsTechToday - that's ok. I understand you cannot have them all in one video. Please consider them for your next comparison video. The Technics AZ 80 and Jabra Elite 10 would be an interesting addition as you haven't reviewed them and I think the Bose Ultra's are only great for 1 thing - ANC... And I think there's really no point to include the Air Pod Pro 2s' because most people with an iPhone will buy them, regardless. And for me, they're great for 2 things - calls, transparency mode and ANC but like you pointed out, not much customization... I think the Sennheiser MTW 4 is not so popular due to the RRP. I think it would be different if they were $200 - $250.
I just got these- wow. I have several earbuds but the musicality on these are amazing. Listening to Louis Armstrong, the rhythm, detail, musicality. Combined with very comfortable- love them!! Classical is fantastic. Female vocals are spot on. Instrumentals are perfect. I can see how the use of some of the IE900 and IE600 hardware has added to these- using uncompressed lossless audio these are brilliant. Surpass my wired IEMs for the same price which surprised me a lot.

I absolutely loved version 3 of these. I wore them on one trip, they did last the entire 24-hour flight to Hong Kong as well as the 4-hour train ride to Changsha. Dead silent when set correctly, even without music playing. That was, however, the one and only trip I was able to use them on. After that, they were in my luggage awaiting the next trip for some months. When I took them out to charge them again, they never came back to life. That was it. $200 in the trash. While I would love to think they actually fixed the issue, I am really not that trusting with that much money.
I remember having the first generation of these buds and they would always drop out whenever I was near power lines and traffic lights. They were useless for walking around the city during my lunch breaks. I returned them and never looked back. I hope they have addressed those issues after all these years.
it certainly helps and is way better than I expected, but it doesn't allow fine tuning or any sort of clarity of what it's doing. We need an advanced option.
So what’s the best choice after all? I’m looking for earbuds which won’t fall off (most of them does) with nice sound quality and very good active noise reduction. I’m not audiophile and I don’t know how to play with eq. I just want to hear what artist / movie director wants me to hear, while not hearing noise around me (like during low cost flights). My personal hearing loss seems to be in the same frequency range as the Momentum 4's weakness. I currently use an equalizer curve that approximates my hearing aids. How might I combine your custom EQ with the results of my hearing exam? Listening using my hearing aids is poor. I use a high end Chromebook and a Samsung Z Flip 3. Chromebooks don't have lossless codecs.What codec would you recommend on my Samsung Z Flip 3's. And when the Z Flip 3 (or 5 if I spend the money) gets auracast and LC3. Are there ways to add or replace codecs on Chromebooks or Android 14?
I bought the momentum 2s back when they originally cane out, mainly for gym use. Later i bought the original air pods pro for everything else which saw more use and abuse. Clearly i loved the sound in the Senheisers more but as of yesterday they no longer hold a charge where as the air pods pro are going strong. Longevity wise spending $300 for another set of senheisers is holding me back mainly because of the issues im having with the 2s.

I purchased the Sennheiser Audio MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 with high expectations in September 2022 , given the brand's reputable standing in audio quality. Initially, the sound quality and fit were exceptional, aligning with Sennheiser's promises. However, my experience took a downturn in November 2023. The battery life, crucial for wireless earbuds, deteriorated rapidly to the point of no return. Despite careful charging and maintenance, the earbuds now refuse to charge, rendering them useless. This has been a significant letdown, especially considering the premium price point. These earbuds were not a worthwhile investment due to their short lifespan. For potential buyers, I'd recommend considering other options that offer better longevity and customer satisfaction.
I absolutely love Seinnheiser. I would love to be able to control everything even when I'm only using one side of the buds. Better eartip material and more size options.

I'm looking into getting these buds hence why im looking at the reviews but im curious if you still hold the same opinion on them, from my understanding theres an EQ option now in the app I'd also like to note that I found that the default EQ actually does fit my tastes best comparatively to your custom EQ (im using Skullcandy Indy ANC which compared to my previous earbuds being the Moondrop Sparks are horrible for multiple reasons) the reason is say it suits my tastes more is I actually can pick out every individual instrument on the default EQ while the bass just kind of disappears into the background on the custom EQ, and for my use cases being listening to some rather bass heavy EDM (like Subtronics, Rezz, Excision, and Wooli) that just isnt something that I would find enjoyable, youd think that the Skullcandy's i have would be great for this but unfortunately their build quality has gone down the drain since i had last bought a pair i mean how are you going to ship earbuds that sometimes dont charge properly in the case because the spring loaded contacts get press down and stuck, any who though, tha k you for the review i learned a lot
Can you turn the ANC completely off? (Unlike their Momentum 4 headphones, the closest is transparency which is not the same as ANC off at all), it is the reason (only reason) I returned mine as ANC gives me brutal headaches.
So after seeing this I think I have changed my mind about spending $300 on them but if not these what would you recommend that isn’t AirPods? Thank you for your response if you do.
Auracast would be great for museums. There are museums that hand out headsets for exhibit explanations. I've been waiting for the day when one can just use their personal device(s) for this. Auracast would also be great when you want to hear the audio for a sporting event that is being shown in a bar but for which they're not playing the audio. I've been waiting for this as well.
Hi, im debating between sennheiser and sony. Which one would you recommend? Im using s23 ultra and gonna use often just one year bud, wourkouts, and i enjoy listening to good quality music where sound is not dark . Also im worried about the connectivity of sennheisers, and i dont know if i should go with the reliability of sonys.
@@ThisIsTechToday Android( s23 ultra). I'm gonna mess a little bit with eq, but I would prefer not to download 3party eq. Depends really if sennheiser is that much better in terms of audio quality. If they are worth the extra effort to make them work, then I would do it, but if not, then I would lean more into a sonys. The aura feature is also very interesting and I'm wouldn't want to miss that. But at the same time, it's just a feature.
I think I can get a better sound out of the Sennheisers and the codecs/auracast support is great for the future. Sony has better ANC and transparency tho. You have to use a third party EQ on both to get that great sound. I'm referring to tho.
Does the size of the drivers make a real difference? And also, does the size of the ear tips opening depends on the size of the drivers? I'm really curious about that... Btw, I agree with how muffled the sound is right out of the box, but in my experience with the MTW3 after tuning them with the Personalized profile sound and replacing their ear tips for Comply Foam Tips (like the ones from B&O Beoplay EQ/EX, the earbuds turned into BEASTS, to the level I'm curstioning if I would ever replace them... They sound way better than Beoplay EQ's and the soundstage feels even wider
No. Not really. It's a marketing thing tbh. The tuning matters far more. The quality of Sennheisers drivers are likely way better than most, regardless of size, but they don't take advantage of it because of tuning, for example. Yeah, the features to get personalized sound for sure helps a lot, and that's likely because of the flexibility of the drivers. The issue is...how do you review an earbud consistently if you don't base it off of the default tuning? A very complicated issue to tackle.

same, every 3 months i should bring it to the service center, they fixed it in 2 months, so it means i only use it for 1 month everytime it broken, lol, then now i got upgrade to MTW4 from them for free, i havent used it, i am still scared it would be broken again lol

I'm using this earbuds from like 2 weeks and I still have the same issue of the Sennheiser momentum 3. Connectivity. The left bud most od the times has a lower volume then the right one and ALSO doesn't apply my equalizer at the first connection. To fix it i have to insert 1 of the earbud to the case and take back again. Crazy.

I haven’t checked yet. Codecs are always nice but not a make or break. I know of earbuds with pretty basic codecs that sound better out of the box. Don’t worry about them as much as the tuning.
Im new to them and were quiet happy with the sound of the over head M4s but returned them due to QC issues. Im hoping the MT4s are better because i wont be going back if they have QC issues.
Wavelet is the only EQ app that I know of on Android that works well for global application of the EQ throughout the whole OS while using that listening device.

Now I fee like I'm chasing the rabbits tale buying and testing all these ear buds searching for the same great sound as the MTW3s. So far this month I've bought/returned the Denon - PerL Pro TWAANCs and the Technics - Premium Hifi TWENCs. Next up are the Devialet - Germini II.
@@ThisIsTechToday They didn't sound as good as my Sennheiser MTW3s. The Denon's do the Nuraphone hearing test thing to tune of the frequencies that I might not hear that well but in the end it just sounded overly processed and loud, also had the worst ANC, I mean even my backup Soundcore A40s had better ANC, and those things cost like 60$. The Technics require a lot of EQ manipulation to make them sound as good. And I'm kind of a poor-mans Audiophile. So I hate messing with EQs just to make my earbuds sound good. Like to keep it direct straight line.
Since you have a flagship Samsung, how would you compare these earphones to the Galaxy Buds2 Pro's sound quality? Specifically, I'm referring to the "24-bit Hi-Fi Sound" that's advertised.
I prefer the Galaxy Buds2 Pro for default sound. 24-Bit doesn't matter as much as tuning. All it does is make the tuning more clear and obvious. Tuning > bitrate...unless the bitrate is super low and starts deteriorating the sound/frequency range dramatically. I don't think any modern Bluetooth earbud would suffer from that so, Tuning > bitrate.
In curious if they've resolved the massive issues the previous ones have had. I loved Jabras and bought the 8 gen 2 and was so disappointed with its issues. It's like Jabra just fired the quality assurance team when they announced the earbud division shutdown.
I had charging issues with the momentum wireless 3. I returned them after 1,5 years and getting a momentum 4 as I am still on guarantee period. I really hope the M4 has improved the quality issues in terms of charging
I returned mine after 1 week of owning them. Using them was the worst when I was talking on the phone. Sound quality was pretty good though except for wind interference when listening to music
My MTW1 had a battery issue. The ear buds turned on inside the case until all battery got to zero. The battery of the case died after 6 months... Last year I bought the MTW3 and 2 months later one earbud died. I sent them back for repair. After a month I was offered to be refund or wait for the version 4 to come out. I haven't picked up my MTW4 yet but I am worried about the next issue I will get. If these fail that will be the last time I ever buy Sennheiser for sure.

You should try the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds next. I bought them and believe they are the best open earbuds right now even when the price is quite high. Best remote work/running earbuds.
They all sound so different. EQ can help a lot, but other issues can remain or some do not EQ well. The Google Pixel Buds Pro still has a very papery and weird sound despite custom EQ. I anticipate this has to do with the shape of the enclosure creating resonate frequencies that I'm not able to EQ out with readily available EQ apps on Android. If you're on iPhone, you have even fewer options to EQ things.
And with all the Samsung Galaxy buds too!! Only presets!! I think they're scared their buds don't sound any good if we change their sound tuning. 😂 Very annoying Samsung doesn't give the consumers that option!! 😡😡
I own them and the EX2s for me sound louder, with rich and deeper bass then the MTW4s. If it's quality sound then I pick the EX2s. Problem is the app sucks, the ANC is virtually absent, ambient pass thru is average and they're $100 more. So even though they sound better, for an overall package I pick the MTW4s. I thought of returning the EX2s but the sound profile is too good. Depending on what you prioritize I also like the AZ80s, those buds are amazing. @Fredo.heavyy has a great review on both MTW4s and AZ80s, and @FlossyCarter makes some some great points in his latest buds review about the MTW4s vs EX2s.
When I hear “deeper bass than the MTW4” then I have massive concerns. That just sounds like more bloated and boosted consumer level bassy sound and that’s everything I try to fix with my EQ because it removes all clarity and detail from the sound. I love floss, but I don’t go to him for audio reviews. His video on the MTW4 couldn’t contradict the review you’re watching here more.
My current pair of earbuds is the Sennheiser CX plus with comply foam ear tips. The foam tips made a huge difference in comfort and cutting off the ambient sound. My dilemma is that like you, I wanted the best ANC possible. I just purchased the Bose ultra and am using Comply foam tips. The ANC is amazing. Better than with the silicone tips. It's as if I'm not in Starbucks. To get the best ANC, you must take time to get the perfect fit and seal. The foam tips may be a cheap solution to satisfy your needs for now, but new buds are the way to go. Problem now is that I am torn wondering if it's worth picking up the Momentum 4's. Btw, keeping the Ultra's even if I get the TW4's. I hope this helps you find a solution to your problem.
I've got the Momentum 3's and I solved the eq problem by using the JetAudio app as my music player which has a good multiband eq in it. Dropped most of the midrange bands, and the 60H band, and lightly boosted the other lows, and everything over 5KHz to varying degrees. Much better
I'm actually listening to this video with them now. I personally love their sound and fit. Nice, fat and smooth. They Eq very well too. Each to their own, but watch numerous videos as there are plenty of videos and articles saying their good.
After 1 month my Sennheiser MTW4 stopped charging. The case says 100% with a green light, but both Earbuds are currently at 10% and refuse to charge at all. The Case Batt Percentage no longer shows in the App. The led slow flashes red constantly with or without the earbuds in the case. Now it has stopped flashing red but instead shows nothing, unless you plug in the charge lead which shows green. I have tried every reset available and shortly my earbuds batts will drop to 0% and the unit will be dead. Thankyou Sennheiser, I have grown up with your company since the first Yellow over ear pad designs in the 80s but this shit is just junk!!! How you charge AUD $499 for a v4 of the same issues from previous revisions is beyond me!! I'm attempting to send them back and they can stick them where the sun doesn't shine. I took a gamble with Battery earbuds because of Sennheiser's name, I won't make that mistake again.

Bro thats your garbage sound signature preference. Majority of top sennheisers sound same including IE900. They have a NOTCH around 3-4k instead of a SHOUTY HARMAN BUMP and your ears trained to hear that shitty BUMP. its not quality its making stereo sound feel very NARROW and give you extremely 'in your head'' feeling. Sennheiser kind of tuning gives you airy and WIDE feeling wiht that NOTCH. campfire andromeda 2020, edifier w240tn, tanchjim OLA, IE800 etc have this NOTCHHHH you love that NOTCH or you hate that NOTCH. its the signature to give wide feeling on IEMS.
@@cenen7021 Through my amp and bookshelf speakers plus bass bin, the stock sound doesn't sound great, the retuned sound did not sound great either and would probably wear me out with listening fatigue sooner than later.

Listening through headphones may have been better.
I still have my Sennheiser momentum TW 2's, still going strong and sound great, no tweeking needed.
Flac box for ios has a 10 band EQ, not needed for the momentum 2's, I do use it for other earbuds though.

I just read another review which said these Sennheiser Momentum 4 earbuds are the best earbuds of all when it comes to sound, beating every other competitor (Sony, Airpods Pro, Bose etc) out there at the moment, and then I listen to your review which is critical. No wonder it's impossible for buyers to know what to believe and who to trust and therefore what to buy.
Honestly, I don’t trust 80% of people reviewing audio. So many have horrible ears and taste and have no idea what they’re talking about.
Sometimes they describe something about earbuds or headphones I have or have reviewed and I have no idea how they could possibly say something like that unless they have an untrained ear and it’s, for lack of a better word, normie take.
You have to look at some products that you know and hear them for yourself and see if what you hear matches what they say. For me, I try to provide as many objective samples as possible and even show the A/B examples of default EQ, and my custom EQ gives some weight that I know what I’m talking about because I can intentionally get a specific sound I’m going for. I can even describe why I’m doing it the way I am and what it does because I can correlate the issues I hear with the problem and fix it.
Most people have no idea how to even do that, and I’d be hesitant about those reviews. Not every tech reviewer is an expert at every kind of tech. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Watch accordingly.
I view audio products from the perspective of a Audio Engineer that focuses on MIXING. I'm a MIXING ENGINEER which means Mix the music and things you listen to and adjust it to sound the way I want it to sound for the end user. I'm NOT an audiophile. I do not care about graphs and all the stuff they care about. I care about how to make things sound good, that's why I EQ so much. Most audiophiles are pretty strict about not EQing things.
Also, keep in mind that I’m literally being paid by Sennheiser to make content on their own platforms, yet I’m still critical of them. Money doesn’t sway me. Definitely something to consider when you evaluate the integrity of my reviews.
I have Sennheiser momentum 3 earbuds and they are the best sounding earbuds I have ever had. But everyone has different sound preferences
@thisistechtoday I totally disagree with this. Of course, the sound you hear may vary from person to person.
I used TWS 1,2,3 and 4. I can say that 3 and 4 are almost the same. 2 sucked. 1 was broken. In the 4th version, the sound is very clear and the volume is very sufficient, just like Apple AirPods Pro 2. But you can never get the detailed sounds and bass intensity in AirPods Pro 2 as in TWS 3/4.
How do I know if a headphone is good? not by putting it through any electronic testing. If it gives me pleasure when I listen to a song I don't like, it means I've found the best headphones. Sennheiser headphones can definitely do this..
In summary, TWS4 is a headset that gives the most detailed sound and where you can hear the best bass. Incomparably better than Airpods
I own EX2s, Ap P2, AZ80s and MTW4s. For volume and best quality sound and deep rich bass, the EX2 is my undisputed champ. Then the MTW4s, 3rd AZ80, Ap P2 last.
Each of these excels at one thing but I place the MTW4s as my favorite earbud because they sound close to the EX2s and fit the best to my ears, plus the app has great features.
It depends on what you prioritize because none of these does everything well and at the end of the day fit and sound preference is subjective, hell we listen to different music which has an effect on how you want it to sound. The Ap P2 have the best ANC but the worst fit for me. My review would say they rather suck but if they fit great to you, one might say they're amazing.
Ultimately you'll have to purchase one and make your choice, all the reputable brands have return policies.
I returned the Sony XM5s 15 minutes after opening for example, for me they were horrible.
I used to MTW3, since the same issue occurs for 3 times. I decided to buy Denon PerL Pro. Honestly, the sound quality way better than MTW3, I hope the replacement unit for my MTW3 will be MTW4 next month so I can compare it both

I just fixed my TW3 last night. Open the case and shock the battery with a 5 V source. My buds are still under warranty period. Just safe my own time. Some guys said they changed few pairs during the warranty. Don't know how true is that

Rtings made a conmparison between the two, to sum it up the az80 had more accurate treble and the momentum 4's had more accurate mids and lows.

This is exactly how I felt when I bought them yesterday.
Every reviewer is saying they sound so great best in the class but they sounded extremely muddy and flat to me.
I was regretting my purchase, then I saw this video got the membership and tried the custom EQ.
Bro let me tell you this dude isn't lying about the 7mm driver being more than capable of producing the quality entire earphone flipped on its head extremely crisp highs, instrument separation and clear mids. My only suggestion would be to crack 62hz a Lil bit to get that energy in songs other than the membership is worth it for the eq itself

Over the last couple weeks I've tried the Bose quietcomfort ultra's, Sony 1000xm5's, the Jabra elite 10's and these Momentum true wireless 4's. And I have to say overall these Sennheiser momentum 4's not only have the best sound but are also overall the best IMO. I will say when I first put them in I was very disappointed. But then I adjusted them properly in my ears and it made a WORLD of difference. I was blown away. I've been reading some bad reviews online from people that have purchased them complaining about sound quality and bass. I'm wondering if they just didn't have them fitted properly. The only other true wireless earbuds I want to give a try are the Technics AZ80's. But I absolutely LOVE the sennheiser's so much that I'm sticking with them. I went back to android from iPhone so I wanted to replace my airpods pro 2's, which is how all this started for me. These definitely out perform the airpods.

i have been using Momentum 3s for last 2 years since it was launched and this is my 3rd piece because i get to get it the 3rd time from warranty as 1 of the earpiece would stop charging and i was blaming myself as i might have somehow broke it. Thank you for clearing it out. I feel relaxed now.

I currently have the MTW3s for about 8 months now, both earbuds experienced the same as yours. It turns out this is a battery issue when they get lower voltage for it to activate. It is a shame that a company this established built a product that doesn't seem to be quality checked before it's public release. I will never again trust Sennheiser when it comes to battery-equipped device.
@@Rocket-mind i would suggest to try Audio Technica, they have amazing sounding products, far better in price to performance as well. I bought TWS3 for the sound but i am not really happy with it. my 1more wired headphones 60$ are way better in terms of sound quality.
Another audio engineer chiming in: These don't sound dark to me at all, and I find no need to EQ in any more higher frequencies. Calling the sound mushy and "being under a couch" sounds like insanity from my experience. The separation is really good IMO.
I find it very interesting that we can have such a different experience. Are our ears that different, or is "good" sound just that subjective? The five band EQ isn't great tho like you are saying, the compression it makes it pretty useless.
The difference is that you are not trying to sell a custom eq.... That ruined the video for me. Sounded more like an ad.

Had the same exp at home but as soon i tryd them in the gym it was way to much bass and mean waaaayyy to much. I did EQ the the hole low end down and pushed the highend almost to max to get that clarity out of these and get that subwoofer sounding like feel away.
I guess we all hear things differently and sound is highly subjective, except for the technicalities producing it. You can't measure music enjoyment.
To me, every sound is well separated enough. Yes, bass bleeds a little bit into the highs, but that's a sacrifice a lot of people take to have a more serene "aura" kind of bass that feels warm and not sharp. The suggested profile sounds "clearer" but it feels like my eardrums are attacked by knives.
I guess, what a lot of people miss, is that those things can sound different at different volumes. Those things have to be mentioned. I like to listen very loud, so I can hear everything clear while being surrounded by the warm but responsive bass. If I would listen to it more silently, yes, the highs will be drowned more interestingly and this profile makes more sense in that case, also reducing the harshness of the elevated highs.
I think volume is critical and you can only fully enjoy them with higher volume, otherwise you can of course alsways EQ them to preference.
After my MTW 3 broke recently, I bought the MTW 4 and most reviews state that they sound very similar to the version 3. Which I can hardly believe. I would be very interested in a direct comparison between the two, and as of now I would judge the 3 are superior.
The ANC mode is changing the sound profile massively (Firmware 5.6.1), gaining bass which you cannot replicate using the EQ. Such great changes in the sound profile when turning ANC on or off, should not be that noticeable. The lack in space is omnipresent, also different from the 3. I played with the EQ over 5h now and I cannot get them to sound as the 3, which is a huge bummer. They do not sound bad, they sound great, but something is always missing no matter what you do. Looking forward to in-depth analysis if this is planned.

@teku412 I have the over ear M4's. I don't have these, M4's are really good! However, Sony xm5 has amazing anc and more clarity when listening to music.
I am glad they can be tuned to be more audiophile quality. I just bought these after some serious research but I am still very new to all this. For context I am upgrading from the Mpow M30s which are about 30 dollars. Tried out my dad's 300 dollar Sennheiser headphones and realized I bought a bunch of high quality music that I am not nearly getting to hear properly. I knew there would need to be some tuning with EQ but did not realize how much was going to be needed.
Will be joining to get the audio profile because it did sound much more like what I want.

A year and a half ago I purchased a pair of Sennheiser HD 560S headphones and I love them, the clarity is second-to-none compared to any other pair of headphones I've ever used. So naturally I began looking into what options they had available for earbuds and figured of course, these ones must be good. Makes me very glad that I decided to watch this video first. I own both and for outright sound quality, the EX2s are better. But the EX2 have almost zero ANC, and ambient pass through is weak, plus their app is abysmal. I place the MTW4s above for the overall package, but if it's great quality sound ang higher volume, richer bass, the EX2 is the winner.

I could hear the difference between the stock EQ and your EQ from my TV speakers.
Your own custom EQ made these buds come alive - sounded so much better but of course in most cases the stock EQ is too flat and boring just like other brands.
I suppose that's why they give you this adjustable EQ.
The wind reduction feature is very effective and the ANC is better than the TW M3s'.
I don't really care about the transparency or spatial audio features.
I think Sennheiser just wants us to create an account and use their personalised EQ feature.
They done the same thing with their M2s', made them come alive...
But I just used the standard EQ in the app for my M3s' and that made them sound dope!!
I do prefer the V-shape sound signature...

To be honest, I prefer the stock EQ rather than your custom EQ. Your custom EQ has too much sibilance for my taste. I'm also quite disappointed with the microphone performance during calls, Sennheiser could have done better. But overall they seem like a solid choice.

The Technics AZ 80 and Jabra Elite 10 would be an interesting addition as you haven't reviewed them and I think the Bose Ultra's are only great for 1 thing - ANC...
And I think there's really no point to include the Air Pod Pro 2s' because most people with an iPhone will buy them, regardless.
And for me, they're great for 2 things - calls, transparency mode and ANC but like you pointed out, not much customization...
I think the Sennheiser MTW 4 is not so popular due to the RRP.
I think it would be different if they were $200 - $250.
I just got these- wow. I have several earbuds but the musicality on these are amazing. Listening to Louis Armstrong, the rhythm, detail, musicality. Combined with very comfortable- love them!! Classical is fantastic. Female vocals are spot on. Instrumentals are perfect. I can see how the use of some of the IE900 and IE600 hardware has added to these- using uncompressed lossless audio these are brilliant. Surpass my wired IEMs for the same price which surprised me a lot.

I absolutely loved version 3 of these. I wore them on one trip, they did last the entire 24-hour flight to Hong Kong as well as the 4-hour train ride to Changsha. Dead silent when set correctly, even without music playing. That was, however, the one and only trip I was able to use them on. After that, they were in my luggage awaiting the next trip for some months. When I took them out to charge them again, they never came back to life. That was it. $200 in the trash. While I would love to think they actually fixed the issue, I am really not that trusting with that much money.
I remember having the first generation of these buds and they would always drop out whenever I was near power lines and traffic lights. They were useless for walking around the city during my lunch breaks. I returned them and never looked back. I hope they have addressed those issues after all these years.

it certainly helps and is way better than I expected, but it doesn't allow fine tuning or any sort of clarity of what it's doing. We need an advanced option.
Depending on what your listening on, the app may have an EQ setting you can play with. I just discovered that on Spotify and it helps.

So what’s the best choice after all? I’m looking for earbuds which won’t fall off (most of them does) with nice sound quality and very good active noise reduction. My personal hearing loss seems to be in the same frequency range as the Momentum 4's weakness. I currently use an equalizer curve that approximates my hearing aids. How might I combine your custom EQ with the results of my hearing exam? Listening using my hearing aids is poor. I use a high end Chromebook and a Samsung Z Flip 3. Chromebooks don't have lossless codecs.What codec would you recommend on my Samsung Z Flip 3's. And when the Z Flip 3 (or 5 if I spend the money) gets auracast and LC3.

As an audio engineer do you listen to audiophile equipment?
I bought the momentum 2s back when they originally cane out, mainly for gym use. Later i bought the original air pods pro for everything else which saw more use and abuse. Clearly i loved the sound in the Senheisers more but as of yesterday they no longer hold a charge where as the air pods pro are going strong. Longevity wise spending $300 for another set of senheisers is holding me back mainly because of the issues im having with the 2s.
Seems like their battery issues loom over them. I know they have a new battery supplier, so hopefully, that helps them there.

Nothing Ear 2 has a better sound, easily. I'll have the big comparison next month with them and Sony, Bose, and Apple.

I don’t think so. The biggest change right now is that it fixed the issues in the 3 with the battery and charging.

I purchased the Sennheiser Audio MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 with high expectations in September 2022 , given the brand's reputable standing in audio quality. Initially, the sound quality and fit were exceptional, aligning with Sennheiser's promises. However, my experience took a downturn in November 2023. The battery life, crucial for wireless earbuds, deteriorated rapidly to the point of no return. Despite careful charging and maintenance, the earbuds now refuse to charge, rendering them useless. This has been a significant letdown, especially considering the premium price point. These earbuds were not a worthwhile investment due to their short lifespan. For potential buyers, I'd recommend considering other options that offer better longevity and customer satisfaction.
That why warranty there for I did exchange mine for new ones when they die
I absolutely love Seinnheiser. I would love to be able to control everything even when I'm only using one side of the buds. Better eartip material and more size options.

I'm looking into getting these buds hence why im looking at the reviews but im curious if you still hold the same opinion on them, from my understanding theres an EQ option now in the app
I'd also like to note that I found that the default EQ actually does fit my tastes best comparatively to your custom EQ (im using Skullcandy Indy ANC which compared to my previous earbuds being the Moondrop Sparks are horrible for multiple reasons) the reason is say it suits my tastes more is I actually can pick out every individual instrument on the default EQ while the bass just kind of disappears into the background on the custom EQ, and for my use cases being listening to some rather bass heavy EDM (like Subtronics, Rezz, Excision, and Wooli) that just isnt something that I would find enjoyable, youd think that the Skullcandy's i have would be great for this but unfortunately their build quality has gone down the drain since i had last bought a pair i mean how are you going to ship earbuds that sometimes dont charge properly in the case because the spring loaded contacts get press down and stuck, any who though, tha k you for the review i learned a lot
Can you turn the ANC completely off? (Unlike their Momentum 4 headphones, the closest is transparency which is not the same as ANC off at all), it is the reason (only reason) I returned mine as ANC gives me brutal headaches.
So after seeing this I think I have changed my mind about spending $300 on them but if not these what would you recommend that isn’t AirPods? Thank you for your response if you do.

Auracast would be great for museums. There are museums that hand out headsets for exhibit explanations. I've been waiting for the day when one can just use their personal device(s) for this. Auracast would also be great when you want to hear the audio for a sporting event that is being shown in a bar but for which they're not playing the audio. I've been waiting for this as well.

Im using s23 ultra and gonna use often just one year bud, wourkouts, and i enjoy listening to good quality music where sound is not dark . Also im worried about the connectivity of sennheisers, and i dont know if i should go with the reliability of sonys.

@@ThisIsTechToday Android( s23 ultra). I'm gonna mess a little bit with eq, but I would prefer not to download 3party eq. Depends really if sennheiser is that much better in terms of audio quality. If they are worth the extra effort to make them work, then I would do it, but if not, then I would lean more into a sonys. The aura feature is also very interesting and I'm wouldn't want to miss that. But at the same time, it's just a feature.
I think I can get a better sound out of the Sennheisers and the codecs/auracast support is great for the future. Sony has better ANC and transparency tho. You have to use a third party EQ on both to get that great sound. I'm referring to tho.
Does the size of the drivers make a real difference?
And also, does the size of the ear tips opening depends on the size of the drivers? I'm really curious about that...
Btw, I agree with how muffled the sound is right out of the box, but in my experience with the MTW3 after tuning them with the Personalized profile sound and replacing their ear tips for Comply Foam Tips (like the ones from B&O Beoplay EQ/EX, the earbuds turned into BEASTS, to the level I'm curstioning if I would ever replace them... They sound way better than Beoplay EQ's and the soundstage feels even wider
No. Not really. It's a marketing thing tbh. The tuning matters far more. The quality of Sennheisers drivers are likely way better than most, regardless of size, but they don't take advantage of it because of tuning, for example.
Yeah, the features to get personalized sound for sure helps a lot, and that's likely because of the flexibility of the drivers. The issue is...how do you review an earbud consistently if you don't base it off of the default tuning? A very complicated issue to tackle.

I have MTW3 and it was broken in different way during warranty for 3 times, 3 times, 3 times. Not sure what QC is doing this time.
same, every 3 months i should bring it to the service center, they fixed it in 2 months, so it means i only use it for 1 month everytime it broken, lol, then now i got upgrade to MTW4 from them for free, i havent used it, i am still scared it would be broken again lol

I'm using this earbuds from like 2 weeks and I still have the same issue of the Sennheiser momentum 3. Connectivity. The left bud most od the times has a lower volume then the right one and ALSO doesn't apply my equalizer at the first connection. To fix it i have to insert 1 of the earbud to the case and take back again. Crazy.

I haven’t checked yet. Codecs are always nice but not a make or break. I know of earbuds with pretty basic codecs that sound better out of the box. Don’t worry about them as much as the tuning.
Im new to them and were quiet happy with the sound of the over head M4s but returned them due to QC issues. Im hoping the MT4s are better because i wont be going back if they have QC issues.
With my mtw3 its having charging glitches where i have to have the case open so the ear buds charge

Wavelet is the only EQ app that I know of on Android that works well for global application of the EQ throughout the whole OS while using that listening device.

Now I fee like I'm chasing the rabbits tale buying and testing all these ear buds searching for the same great sound as the MTW3s. So far this month I've bought/returned the Denon - PerL Pro TWAANCs and the Technics - Premium Hifi TWENCs. Next up are the Devialet - Germini II.

@@ThisIsTechToday They didn't sound as good as my Sennheiser MTW3s. The Denon's do the Nuraphone hearing test thing to tune of the frequencies that I might not hear that well but in the end it just sounded overly processed and loud, also had the worst ANC, I mean even my backup Soundcore A40s had better ANC, and those things cost like 60$. The Technics require a lot of EQ manipulation to make them sound as good. And I'm kind of a poor-mans Audiophile. So I hate messing with EQs just to make my earbuds sound good. Like to keep it direct straight line.
Since you have a flagship Samsung, how would you compare these earphones to the Galaxy Buds2 Pro's sound quality? Specifically, I'm referring to the "24-bit Hi-Fi Sound" that's advertised.
I prefer the Galaxy Buds2 Pro for default sound. 24-Bit doesn't matter as much as tuning. All it does is make the tuning more clear and obvious. Tuning > bitrate...unless the bitrate is super low and starts deteriorating the sound/frequency range dramatically. I don't think any modern Bluetooth earbud would suffer from that so, Tuning > bitrate.
In curious if they've resolved the massive issues the previous ones have had. I loved Jabras and bought the 8 gen 2 and was so disappointed with its issues. It's like Jabra just fired the quality assurance team when they announced the earbud division shutdown.
I had charging issues with the momentum wireless 3. I returned them after 1,5 years and getting a momentum 4 as I am still on guarantee period. I really hope the M4 has improved the quality issues in terms of charging
I returned mine after 1 week of owning them. Using them was the worst when I was talking on the phone. Sound quality was pretty good though except for wind interference when listening to music
My MTW1 had a battery issue. The ear buds turned on inside the case until all battery got to zero. The battery of the case died after 6 months... Last year I bought the MTW3 and 2 months later one earbud died. I sent them back for repair. After a month I was offered to be refund or wait for the version 4 to come out. I haven't picked up my MTW4 yet but I am worried about the next issue I will get. If these fail that will be the last time I ever buy Sennheiser for sure.

You should try the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds next. I bought them and believe they are the best open earbuds right now even when the price is quite high. Best remote work/running earbuds.

Aren't all audio products in this range all the same with EQ?
They all sound so different. EQ can help a lot, but other issues can remain or some do not EQ well. The Google Pixel Buds Pro still has a very papery and weird sound despite custom EQ. I anticipate this has to do with the shape of the enclosure creating resonate frequencies that I'm not able to EQ out with readily available EQ apps on Android.
If you're on iPhone, you have even fewer options to EQ things.
And with all the Samsung Galaxy buds too!!

Sorry, it's the Apple, Sony, and Bose for the remaining three slots. I can't do more than four.
I own them and the EX2s for me sound louder, with rich and deeper bass then the MTW4s. If it's quality sound then I pick the EX2s. Problem is the app sucks, the ANC is virtually absent, ambient pass thru is average and they're $100 more. So even though they sound better, for an overall package I pick the MTW4s.
I thought of returning the EX2s but the sound profile is too good. Depending on what you prioritize I also like the AZ80s, those buds are amazing.
@Fredo.heavyy has a great review on both MTW4s and AZ80s, and @FlossyCarter makes some some great points in his latest buds review about the MTW4s vs EX2s.
When I hear “deeper bass than the MTW4” then I have massive concerns. That just sounds like more bloated and boosted consumer level bassy sound and that’s everything I try to fix with my EQ because it removes all clarity and detail from the sound.
I love floss, but I don’t go to him for audio reviews. His video on the MTW4 couldn’t contradict the review you’re watching here more.
My MTW3 ANC fails to block high frequency such as a high pitch screech of a cafe coffee machine. Solution?
Buy a different pair of earbuds
My current pair of earbuds is the Sennheiser CX plus with comply foam ear tips. The foam tips made a huge difference in comfort and cutting off the ambient sound. My dilemma is that like you, I wanted the best ANC possible. I just purchased the Bose ultra and am using Comply foam tips. The ANC is amazing. Better than with the silicone tips. It's as if I'm not in Starbucks. To get the best ANC, you must take time to get the perfect fit and seal. The foam tips may be a cheap solution to satisfy your needs for now, but new buds are the way to go. Problem now is that I am torn wondering if it's worth picking up the Momentum 4's. Btw, keeping the Ultra's even if I get the TW4's. I hope this helps you find a solution to your problem.
Buy comply foam eartip is the first option. Silicone ear tips imo .

I've got the Momentum 3's and I solved the eq problem by using the JetAudio app as my music player which has a good multiband eq in it. Dropped most of the midrange bands, and the 60H band, and lightly boosted the other lows, and everything over 5KHz to varying degrees. Much better
I'm actually listening to this video with them now. I personally love their sound and fit. Nice, fat and smooth. They Eq very well too. Each to their own, but watch numerous videos as there are plenty of videos and articles saying their good.
The problem with your custom eq is that it's sounds too exposed. Sennheiser's tuning remains the best 👍🏽
that's a weird way of saying you hate clear and detailed sounds and prefer a muddy, dark, flat sound.

After 1 month my Sennheiser MTW4 stopped charging.
The case says 100% with a green light, but both Earbuds are currently at 10% and refuse to charge at all.
The Case Batt Percentage no longer shows in the App.
The led slow flashes red constantly with or without the earbuds in the case.
Now it has stopped flashing red but instead shows nothing, unless you plug in the charge lead which shows green.
I have tried every reset available and shortly my earbuds batts will drop to 0% and the unit will be dead.
Thankyou Sennheiser, I have grown up with your company since the first Yellow over ear pad designs in the 80s but this shit is just junk!!!
How you charge AUD $499 for a v4 of the same issues from previous revisions is beyond me!!
