    Havertz won 105 aerial duels. 9th best in the prem, over 2.5x more than Haaland. Not sure how he isn't good in the air?

    • @kunimitsune177
      @kunimitsune177 4 месяца назад +10

      Being good in the air doesn't just equate to winning duels, like being physical doesn't just mean being strong.
      Particularly with "good in the air", the intended application tends to be attacking in the box i.e being a *threat* in the air. For example Tomiyasu is aerially dominant in defence but I probably wouldn't use the phrase "good in the air" to describe him, even if it is literally true.

      Kai has been extremely efficient in the air, scores goals, holds the ball, wins aeriel duels, we have got a striker in him, but he is not a midfielder

      He scored one decent header goal. He gets his head to the ball which is useful for knocking it back and holding things up but that is different from heading the ball. Sure he can be better but very little conviction in his heading attempts at goal. I thought he would get Deli Ali goals at back post. Maybe next season

      We don’t create high quality chances in terms of both quality and quantity. That’s the problem.
      Everyone can miss chances. Even the most clinical players. Especially if a poor quality chance falls to your striker, you can’t blame him for missing.
      If you have watched the 09-12 Barcelona or the 17-20 ManCity. They can create so many chances that are almost impossible to miss.

    Looking at one of these structures - the 3124 formation in attack (7:30) - I’m now even more confident that Timber will be the left back. As he will be able to act like Odegaard but on the left when in attack but the traditional left back in defence.
    I think we already knew he will also be the second holding midfielder when we attack with the 3223 formation.

    I think your right with Havertz and Sesko starting together, I remember in start of the season when nketiah/havertz started as 2 strikers and timber/partey inverting from fb, but then obviously Partey/Timber both got injured

    • @thierryhenry674
      @thierryhenry674 4 месяца назад +7

      Nketiah and Havertz together is like 2 men down in the build up. It reduces our possession, ball progression and chance creation. If you add Rice into that starting line up, we are 3 men down.
      Build up play has become more important in the modern game. Modern teams are more compact vertically. Which means the distance between their strikers and their defenders are closer. They defend with 11 players forming a block.
      Therefore, you need 11 creative players to break down that block. That’s why modern defenders and goalkeepers are required to be so much more technical on the ball.
      In the past, being a goal hanger isn’t that big of a trade off, because your team could still be able to create through a 4 men defence. But nowadays, you can’t afford to be one man down in the build up process because you are facing 11 defenders.
      This is why modern football has become more “TOTAL”. A striker’s job is not just finishing, but also defending and creating. Otherwise your team would be in a numerical disadvantage in the defensive/build up phase. The same applies to defenders and goalkeepers.

    • @thierryhenry674
      @thierryhenry674 4 месяца назад +3

      Rice is one of the reasons we lost the league. This is a great example that shows how important it is to have eleven silky and tekky creators on the pitch.
      We lost the league because we had a dip midseason.
      There is a price that comes with having a better defence. Rice just can’t play progressive passes like Partey could do. So the quality of our build up drops.
      And as a team, we stopped playing such a high line as we did last season in exchange for a better defence. So in terms of the quantity (the density) of players that are close to the opponent box, we are not as good as last season.
      When Partey was injured, we have no solution playing against teams that park the bus. We are forever passing between Rice and our defenders. In terms of our ability to break down a low block, both our quality and quantity have dropped.
      As a result, the quality of our possession, ball progression and chance creation were nonexistent.

      He was not the only reason. But he was a part of it. The situation was better when he was paired with Jorginho. But it would be so much better if he could do half of what Busquets or Rodri could do with the ball.
      From Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets to KDB, Rodri and Silva/Foden. Pep never sacrifice technicality, silkyness and tekkyness in the midfield.
      The game nowadays might need more physicality and athleticism. It’s true that the ManCity trio are more physical than the Barcelona trio. But in terms of technicality, there is no big difference. There might be a slight drop off but it’s not significant.
      Whereas Rice does offer phenomenal physicality and defensive capability, but he is a huge drop off in terms of technicality if you compare him to those Spanish greats.
      Acquiring different qualities is good, but not at the cost of throwing away other important qualities. I think Pep and Arteta are going too far with Haaland and Rice. One for his finishing and one for his defending, but cost the team too much on the reduction of technicality.

    This season, the left is an area to become more important. Done so well, even with our heavy right bias, quicker switches, and options to the left, are what Arteta will be working on. I think Martinelli will have a brilliant season if Timber plays that side. He needs a partnership like White and Saka have, but in a different way. Biggest rule in football is to not be predictable- in 22/23 we were, but it was part of the growing process, 23/24 we were less predictable, and i think next year even less. Great thing about Arteta compared to Guardiola is that he actually allows a little more freedom when he trusts the player.

    I disagree with this insight. Havertz and Saka are intelligent runners but they're not fast. They struggled against the mid block where space behind the defenders was screaming to be attacked. We need a fast no. 9. What I'm really surprised about is that wasn't any mention of Sesko's pace. So I still see a role for him in the team but it would be for his unique strengths of being fast and tall.

A Diamonde or Fofana is more important than a striker signing. We need steel in the midfield, a midfielder with flair... like a Toni Kroos, or a Modric type

    I think even when Havertz plays CF, he's on the left side out of possession when Odegaard does the press on the right. Now that he is comfortable with the system and Partey is gone to fit Rice as our long term 6, I think he can be our LC midfielder if he can play off a out and out striker like Sesko (or anyone we get) while Odegaard drops off and does the build up work.. I know every single arsenal fan will oppose this but I absolutely dislike Rice as our 6 when he drops deeper to receive the ball.. It's better left for Odegaard to do that while Havertz links our midfield to striker and then works a late arriving attacking midfielder and Rice sweeps up any mistakes in our defense to attack patterns

  • @finnmoran
    @finnmoran 3 месяца назад

    The problem with your diamond midfield is that Rice clearly lost arteta’s trust at the base of it due to his inability to progress from deep (see Fulham, West Ham home, Porto away, Villa at home etc).
    I would love Havertz as the left 8/second striker but I don’t think Rice is good enough progressing so he’ll need someone in midfield with him to take up that responsibility. Unless Timber can do it from left back that will take up a position in our diamond.

      The shot accuracy and conversion rate between great strikers and average strikers are actually only different by a few percentage.

    For wingers, Eze would be perfect for us.
    Eze is skillful and tricky on the ball. I’m not saying he is on the same level, but he can do skill moves, just like Ronaldinho, Neymar, Figo, Mahrez or Hleb could do skill moves.
    What amazing about Eze is that he can also be wide playmaker at the same time, similar to BernardoSilva, Foden, ColePalmer or DavidSilva. Again, I’m not saying he is on the same level, but he can be that type of player.
    Martinelli and Saka need space to run into. Against a low block, they lack Ronaldinho/Neymar magic to dribble through tight spaces. And I don’t think they are Spanish enough to be a wide playmaker.
    The fact that Eze could do both, with good decision making, strength, pace and defensive contribution, is extremely incredible.

    All the games where we dropped points, it’s because Rice was playing as no6…he’s raw and far from the required level of tactical acumen of the Rodri Jorginho and definitely the Partey pedigree.
    This has forced Arteta to then push him into the no8, something that wasn’t Arteta’s first preference. Havertz coming in from deep as an no8 was always what Arteta wanted.
    But we need Rice to step up to make the team play better from the no6 role, he passes side ways a lot and has no clue yet how to be a deep lying playmaker like Partey and Rodri.
    This will influence a lot how Arteta plans for next season because I’m absolutely sure that Rice is far from being ready to play no6 against serious coaches and teams…it cost us the league this season when we tried him there.
    Look it up.

      Kiwior, Tierney, Tomiyasu can’t do what Zinchenko could do with the ball in possession, allowing us to have an extra silky player on the pitch to maximise our possession, ball progression and chance creation. It is so frustrating to watch them having the ball in the build up play. We should not sell Zinchenko unless we can get Cancelo, Guerreiro or RicoLewis.
      We lost the league not because of our defensive mistakes. We lost because of the poor results mid season when we failed to break down low blocks.
      If we play more technical players, we will have less “out of possession” moments. So the risk can be minimised. Even if we have conceded a goal, just let it be, because these technical players allow us to create so much more and higher quality chances so we can outscore our opponent.
      Small risks and extremely high rewards, is better than no risks and no rewards. And if you take risks, occasional mistakes and conceding are expected.
      09-12 Barcelona would concede more goals than Mourinho’s Chelsea. If you play more technical players with a higher defensive line, conceding is expected. Let the goals be conceded.
