I read an interesting article a few months ago that Arsenal would be very careful with money because they are expecting to have to give the likes of Saka, Odegaard Saliba etc massive pay bumps soon. Thought that was an interesting point of view. never knew it adds up that much over the corse of having a world class team for a decade.
May be some truth. However, they've done a good job in clearing players from the wage bill and in this window they are now down to their core squad to build on going forward. Also, their signings have tended to be younger without the immediate high wage demands, bar Declan Rice' and even Merino doesn't break the bank. Sterling is the perfect relatively low cost, quality and experienced player to fill a gap for now.I think there is sufficient bandwidth to absorb higher wages and an unspent kitty that will grow with this season's CL to allow Arsenal to pursue their higher quality targets in coming windows.
It’s all checks and balances, really. AFC makes roughly half a billion per season with a net estimate of 300 million euros. Great pod guys as always. One thing I'll push back on though. I do genuinely think that the right option for the "marquee" forward signings hasn't come yet. Let's go through every major option and see why it didn't work. Vlahovic - Didn't want to come, I think. Don't remember why it didn't work, but something about him wanting to join Juventus and stay in Italy. Isak - I don't know why we didn't get him from Real Sociedad (not proven enough?), but he's never been available for a transfer once he joined Newcastle. Šeško - He simply decided to stay at RB Leipzig. If a player decides to stay, then they can't transfer to us, simple. I remember reading somewhere during this time that if Šeško decided to leave RB Leipzig, he would've wanted to go to Arsenal, but he decided to stay to continue his development. More than fair enough. Mudryk - we know why. Nico Williams? - He wants to stay at Athletic Club. Again, fair enough. Leao - I don't want Leao at Arsenal. He doesn't have the committment to the team (?) or the defensive side of the game (definetely) that is a bare minimum for any Arsenal player, regardless of stature. Rashford - Same as Leao. Osimhen - Arsenal have reservations on his character, especially when he went online to relatiate to his Nigeria coach for criticising him. (teamnewsandtix was quoted on this somewhere; I'm not 100% sure) Also, this is a hunch, if we were to somehow convince Osimhen to join us, if he gets offered double the wages from Chelsea, he's going to Chelsea. He's already spoken to John Obi Mikel and everything, apparently. The committment to play for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal that we've seen from all our previous signings (e.g. Calafiori) maybe isn't there as much; there's no "only Arsenal" mentality there. Personally, I think we're waiting for Šeško. One more year and he will be ready for us in my opinion. As a result, the Stering deal is perfect. A temporary stop gap, without much financial burden or any long-term burden. Low risk because it's a straight loan and the wages are relatively low. Sterling's best years have arguably been when Arteta was in his corner, and we know how much Arteta was part of Sterling's success at Man City. As soon as Arteta left, Sterling started to decline (?). Arteta knows Sterling very well, and knows how to maximize him. If we can maximize Sterling, we can win the league, because a maximized Sterling is an elite winger.
I think that the Sterling loan is fine. It makes us better this season and doesn't lock us out of making a good buy in Jan or next year. I know you guys hate the "there was nobody available" argument, but to me, if the right player wasn't available on the right terms I would rather that the club did something to elevate the squad temporarily than get the right player on the wrong terms or the wrong player at all. To steal George's bandaid metaphor, I'd rather use a bandaid than go to the dodgy surgeon operating out of the basement next door and get tetanus.
Exactly that. Makes the most sense. Apparently Nico Williams was the main target but didn’t want to leave his club. If he continues strong it makes sense to bot buy anyone now, save the money and maybe go big on Nico Williams next year. Maybe even with a title in our bags which makes him mote likely to want to join us.
I think the success of havertz is also contributing to the enthusiasm around this signing. One thing about the Emirates crowd, they'll be right behind him.

Also those talking about strikers, we only wanted Sesko because he was a generational striker with a 45 mill release clause, someone to compete with Havertz or start alongside him. After Sesko signed a new contract we never went looking for a striker again in the window. Osimhen was on the market for 60 mill, we clearly don't want a 9. I think we did in previous years but since signing Jesus we haven't really been in the market. It was only really at the end of 2023 we were looking for a 9. We've also heard issues with some players and attitudes not meshing.
It's all starting to sound a bit unicorn-hunting tbh, but the way I see it, your issue is with Arteta, not the board. I just can't see him okaying someone that isn't a good little soldier, which is probably why we've signed so few forwards lol
I guess Trossard is the closest...? Maybe?
Dodgy beard 😂😂
If you want to bring preconceived notions from these deadwood TV exporters who hate footballers and abuse footballers for a living; just watch Sterling’s video highlights of his time at Chelsea, ONLY…
Then bring that into the context of Arsenal’s way of playing, and you’ll see that Sterling and Saka on both wings, with Havertz upfront, Odegaard and Merino behind them, Rice @DM, we’ll hurt teams!
Trossard and Martinelli on the bench. Partey and Jorginho.
I don’t see any area City has a Marked advantage above us. They have Pep who’s been at it for 20+ years. On the pitch Arteta’s has absolutely closed the gap on them.
Last season they beat us at having a deep squad quality bench. Not anymore!
Saka actually gets fouled...doesnt need to act
Im curious, did any of you guys actually play any high level football ?
Man I just got to the end and George is the only analyst I can recall asking the question I have been asking this summer - why is the board of the club so passive, seemingly taking their foot off the gas completely? Especially right when they are trying to sign Arteta to a new deal
Routing around in Chelsea's rubbish bins again. I believe the squad is weaker than last year. 1 attacking midfielder. Selling ESR ok but don't loan viera as well. We are the 4th best team on paper but Chelsea are shit so 3rd this year.
You think Chelsea are better on paper? That’s wild
The pigeon heads podcast
Alex sold out on the skull Candies 💀
Pr channel.
You are wearing the worst Arsenal shirt ever😂
L take. Its not even Puma and those kits were worse collectively than any adidas kit.
Arsenal are finishing 4th this year
yeah dream on... 😂😂😭😭😭
Yeah.... Like Kai Havertz.... Let him dream😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Robert-i4g Kai Havertz.... hmm.... Just look at the difference between havertz & haaland. Ultimately That is what will determine who wins the pl title this season
@@JD-mc3bl There is not a single striker remotely close to Halland on planet earth. What you are doing is like comparing Fabregas to Messi at his peak. Yes Cesc was good but no way near Messi. To make it easier, name one attacker who puts up 75% of the numbers Halland is putting out right now. Just one sir.
it's a time to ditch this inverted shit...and play proper fullbacks who can run up and down the wing with two midfield anchors. timber on the right and cala on left, bench ben shite. In all three matches our midfield has looked completely dis functional. we are playing hoofball by bypassing the middle it doesn't work unless you are playing to avoid relegation
The hell are you on about Ben shite 😂
@@tjones8402 he offers nothing going forward and he shit against tricky wingers .. every one goes after zinchenko for the same defensive flaws. just imagine how good saka can be with speedy overlapping fullback. Every time we try to play out from the back he passes it back to saliva or raya and inevitably they have to hold it up instead of bringing partey or rice into the build up
Absolutely terrible signing and i think everyone is just coping
You were tired
This guy is so boring
I don't think he ever leaves his bedroom
