Im glad Im not the only one who spins a bunch of yarn and then just kinda sits looking at it doing the "My precious" thing with it, and almost its like making something will spoil it!
I have a huge bag of my hand spun that I don't know what to do with, I've been thinking of pairing it with a commercial neutral and knitting a brioche shawl/slanket with it.
I know this video is old but you asked what I would do with your handspun, that isnt next to the skin soft, I would knit a bowl and felt it. Thats my jam. I bet that yarn would make a lovely bowl.
I'm sure you've already done something with this yarn, but I think it would make an adorable hat, and I'd add a plain white band. Then I'd line it with white fleece so it was extra warm and soft on your forehead. Fun to watch your video. Only thing I would have changed was to move The camera just a little during the Navajo plying so that we could see what your hands were doing, and maybe go over the beginning of the wraps on the niddy noddy, too, to show how to start that. I never do either one enough to remember how to get started the next time I do it. 🙄. I always have to look it up. How are the twins? I can't believe you were able to do this with twins! My sister had twin boys... Wew!
A cute stuffed toy for the twins :) , this fiber is used for Shetland fair isle sweaters and it does soften with time . That s a lot of Shetland tonspin though ! Ppl male a lot of cardigans with it, so your instinct is spot on , its not meant for next to the skin , its usuall a two ply or three ply fingering weight ,sometimes dk ... good place to see examples of its use is Jamieson Shetland . It’s a great yarn to practice fair isle on since it’ “ sticks “ very nicely to itself while you work the colors - beautiful skein I’ve never seen it put up this way - very nicely done !
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I've yet to go down the spinning rabbit hole but with seeing more podcasters where they show the actual spinning it's becoming more tempting. lol Maybe a lined cowl like Emily Estrada has on in her lasted podcast would be an idea, with perhaps some more from stash added with it. I look forward to more about spinning.
Your hand spun came out very nice! I would make something felted. A small bowl, coasters, a hot pad are all nice ideas and quick knits with your amount of yarn. What ever your yarn becomes it will be very nice! Enjoy!
You could make a beautiful pair of mittens or the longer arm warmers without fingers. I love the fingerless gloves as when it gets colder I can still spin, Knit and crochet without taking off my warmers. Beautiful skein you made
WOW i wish could get beautiful yarn like this is florida I'm a late newbie 50 years old so I'm a really late newbie. i enjoyed this even though i didn't understand lol
Wow beautiful wool, great job. Thanks for tutorial, although I'd never be able to use that spindle(?), as I'm disabled and legs feet dont work. I love to crochet and find this very interesting. Happy New Year to you and your babies.
Jennifer Jones-Paull There are electric Spining wheels (bobbins - actually ). They can sit on a table and you control the speed with a button or switch. Something to look into if you’re interested.
My flyer is still busted, but I enjoyed living vicariously through watching you spin! I spin totally by feel too. I've always just went with what the fiber decides it wants to be, instead of forcing it to be something it doesn't :) I guess I should probably pull out my drop spindles again. I'm itching to spin because the weather is just starting to get cold here now.
oh no, maybe Santa will bring you a new flyer? I am going to pull out my drop spindle for the next spinning video, mainly because I have a project on it that is two thirds finished, and it's been that way for a year and I half now.... not sure I even remember how to do it. Should be interesting to watch.
Wow you spin faster than me! I've tried to spin slower, because I tend to have too much twist......I use the largest whorl...but my feet really want to go.......I too would like to take a master class in spinning....can you talk more about how a person can find that sort of thing...what to look for in a teacher etc... Never did Navaho plying...wow that looks fun..... also this steamer method is new to me...I've always washed the skein. The whole video was very helpful to me...thanks for the tips...cheers
Haha the one beginner class I took the instructor was floored at how fast I spin. I will for sure put some info together on spinning classes and put it into a video. Thanks for the comments!
Since you split your roving before you spin it, could you mix it up so the colors are more random rather than running from one color to the next? It seems like once you Navajo ply it, the color would be more consistent rather than 'stripey' when you knit or crochet it. Thoughts? Loved your video though, I just got my first wheel 🙂

:D
I'm glad I'm not the only one that has issues spinning Shetland. So much different to Merino and need to watch out for all the guard hairs.
That could make a nice bedroom rug or the lined hat is a great idea
Love all the different types of roving and the colors

I’m totally amazed and impressed that you make time to spin with twins😱 Also thank you so much for showing how you finished the yarn.

Lined cowl has been suggested a couple of times, I really like the idea, it would show off the yarn best for sure!
❤

That sounds great, I've never felted a knit before, I think I'm between a felted bowl and a lined cowl.

Thanks so much. Very intriguing. Have knitted, crocheted, now weaving. Looks like a lot of work but wow what a beautiful yarn to end.
your yarn is beautiful, i would make s cowl so i could show off my handwork, great job thanks for the tips.
Thanks, A cowl would be nice, I guess I could line it as well!

Could you explain how to tell the weight and yards of home spin yarn
U could also make stylish drawstring handbags
If this is still not knit up, what about some slippers.
Can this be made into dreadlocs? ❤
I would knit a wrap belt, but that's just me.
I would make a pair of mid shin high ( is that even a term?? ) socks
Table runner or mantel cover.
I would make a knitting bag
I would crochet a waist coat
What college? Master class?
Am I mistaken ? it looks like n double ply?
Alta Joubert it's Navajo plied or chain plied, it creates a 3 play yarn the preserves the colour patterning of the single
just LOVE the Navajo plying. It is so exciting and satisfying. thank you for replying
LUPIN VALENTINA.
I would sell it and buy more fiber to spin.
I would make slippers
I LIKE. YOU CINDERRELLA.
You don't need next-to-skin soft on your hands! I'd make mittens or gloves.
