Honestly i enjoyed this review so much more because of the brief history you ran threw on the name of the platform and how this differs from the actual mk18. It allowed me to sit back and enjoy the review of this pistol without feeling the need to jump in the comments on how this isn’t akchually the same. Well done video.
I have the DDM4V7 Pro and I love it. I’m not there yet with enjoying a short barrel but then again I haven’t tried one yet. The CQB building you were in looks like some serious fun.

Just got mine about a week ago. I love it. And it came with a AEMS Holosun red dot sight. I still haven't taken it to the range yet. I have noticed that when I tried to load 32 rounds in the magazine, it got stuck just like u said. It does better with just 31 rounds loaded
I love my DD MK18 Law & tactical. Favorite AR in my collection. Has never failed. I'm considering getting a MK12 upper to swap back and forth between CQC and SPR.. Installed a single stage 3Lb Timney trigger and it rocks. Still waiting on my DD Wave suppressor.
I just bought a DD MK 18 law & tactical about a month ago and love it! The only issue I had, is it wouldn’t extract steel Casings out of the chamber. Any suggestions? It did however throwaway brass effortlessly, and it was brand new with minimal lube.
Not sure if I would be comfortable running steel case in my MK18 with its gas system/super short barrel...I have a rifle length buffer system on it, and still wouldn't trust steel case. I don't mean to shit on steel case, it's just I've spent too much money on this Mk18 making it nice to run lower quality rounds through it. I'll run steel through my 16" aero and bear creek
Let me know if you can find a Mk12 upper... Daniel Defense only sells it as a whole gun now. Can't seem to find an upper
@@angeldesigns1385 that is odd. Many AR weapon system struggle with steel, butt DD has seemed to remedy this by way overgassing their system, and by doing this DD has built a reputation for running just about anything including steel without many hiccups, albeit more blowback to the face compared to other systems. My advice, if you care, is this. First off I eould contact DD. Second, you spent alot of money for that 18 bro, don't skimp on the ammo. Run the good stuff. Run brass
I run Tula ammo steel 223 on mine no issue. 556 55gr for the first few round in range just to check my zero. Cleaned it maybe once a year then I just lube (CLP) and shoot. No issue. It’s my SHTF gun, if it can’t reliably shoot dirty ammo with minimal maintenance then it wouldn’t be.
Shoot house is definitely on my bucket list. Looks awesome.
My DD MK18 is good to go. My favorite gun I have ever owned (and I have had other DD rifles).

I had the same over insertion problems with the DD mags. When you really get after it you can snag the gun up on a bolt lock. Pmags are the way.
This is the way.
If people would read DD tells you that the 32 round mag is not to put 32 rounds in but to give extra space and a smooth seat when chambering a round with 30rounds.
I know it can be confusing for some because it says “32rd” but is only ment for 30rnd .

I'm building a semi-clone of the Block II (non-Colt receivers, Warcomp and no PEQ cause I don't own NODs). All the furniture and accessories are FDE including my G33 and EXPS3-0. Just waiting on my workbench to arrive tomorrow! 😍
If nods are on your list. Give it a couple months and prices should come down along with demand. I would recommend using JRH Enterprises. The owner always answers he phone and will answer any questions no matter how dumb they may be. He usually has a sale going and you don’t pay until they ship. My whole set up came to about 3k. Not including TW lid, Wilcox g24,and Wilcox j arm. Word of advice - buy once cry once. I already regret not getting duals from the beginning.

Re: the mag. I read somewhere that's Daniel defense made a 32 round magazine and specifically recommend you only put 30 rounds in it because of the reloading issues you experienced. Seems a bit silly but oh well

Did you ever just spray lube in it to see if that breaks up the carbon instead of breaking down and wiping it off?

I called dd about the mags getting stuck. They are aware or it. He called it over insertion. That could get you killed on the battlefield. You should be able to smack the bottom of the mag without it getting stuck. The mag doesn’t do that in any other rifle I’ve tried it in. And pmags don’t get stuck like that in the dd.

I love the DD Mk18 upper but my problem with calling it a Mk18 is- no piston.
So- what makes this not an M16 commando?
Mk18 don't have a piston, it's just the regular ar15 style impingement but with a widened port to compensate for the shortened dwell time

What kind of buffer are you using when shooting full auto on your Daniel Defense? Please respond!
DD generally ships their rifles with H buffers, which is more than adequate to prevent bolt-bounce in FA with that barrel profile. Military Mk18s run H or H2, with H2 being preferred for rifles shot mostly suppressed.
@@doktorfaustus Thank You! the reason I'm asking is because I have a DD MK18 Law Tactical (folding stock), and I wanted to install a FRT-15 trigger. Rare Breed suggested a heavy buffer (H2, H3 or T3 BUFFER). I have the "H" buffer that comes with the Mk, and was just wondering if I should just follow their recommendation.
@@meuls82 I highly recommend visiting Small Arms Solutions' channel and searching for his video on buffer weights. He will give you a much more in-depth education on the history and rationale of the various buffers used over the years in AR pattern rifles than anything which will fit in one of these comments.

Been running my mk18 for 7 years; been to hell and back and never not a single issue.. DD makes one hell of a rifle for military and law enforcement applications. If you're in that community you can't go wrong

Having a hard time deciding between the RIS II and RIS III rails. I'm sure either one won't disappoint.
Thought the ll would be terrible. Man was I wrong, definitely feels better.

@@NYa-mo7se I ended up going with the RIS II in FDE after my local shop finally had a MK18 in stock for me to get the feel of. Was pleasantly surprised how the rail felt in comparison to every other quad rail I've gotten my hands on.
I like how we're all gonna pretend that no third pin isn't a dead giveaway that it's got an FRT15. If it was NFA it wouldn't matter if it had a stock

I just bought the mk18 brand new for 1599. At that price I couldn’t help my self. Sucks I’ll have to wait like a year to get approval on the stamp but figure I’ll buy a suppressor now to get them about the same time. I’m leaning towards the rc-2 but looking for any/all good suppressor options for the mk18 that will work with the gun completely stock. (Minus the muzzle device). Thx for anybody’s input.

My only gripe about the DD mk18 is they’re over gassed passed original specification. This isn’t a psa build so I’m not sure why DD wanted to cover their bases with customer shooting low quality reloads or steel.
Most ppl i know, including myself, train with steel case ammo bc it is cheap. We keep the brass for them special occasions.
An H3 Geissele Super 42 should do the trick.

@Patrick Henry Anything with a military spec gas port dimension is going to seem a bit "over-gassed" compared to a gucci civilian competition rig. They're engineered that way because they need to run reliably in every condition from a sandy desert to arctic cold. The Mk18 is actually a little under-gassed for its barrel length when compared to other M4 platform rifles; this is because Crane expected they would be run suppressed a lot of the time, but not necessarily all the time, so the gas port dimension was selected as a compromise between a little bigger than ideal for use with a can and a little smaller than ideal for use without.
Only when peacekeeper has the good ammo in stock.

The DD Mk18 is about 6 lbs naked (give or take an ounce). It's not that it's heavy out of context, just that for an SBR with a relatively light barrel profile, it's a lot heavier than many weapons in its size class. It all comes down to the RIS II rail, which is a boat anchor compared to newer MLOK designs. That having been said, it's built like a tank and can take a helluva lot more abuse than most of these new-fangled lightweight rails. Short of a monolithic upper like an LMT, I don't think there's another rail system that under abuse I would trust more to hold zero with a laser or BUIS than the RIS II.
I got into the mk18 with the OG GT videos 5 years back. I've settled on a criterion 10.5" barrel and a surefire socom rc2. The barrel is the heart of every ar15. The dd barrels are over gassed in my experience.
DD commercial barrels-in particular, the 10.3" Mk18 barrel-used to be grossly overgassed. However, about two years ago, DD actually listened to their customers and switched the gas port dimension to Crane spec for their commercial barrels. Now they're a lot better (pretty much same gassing as you'd get in a military Mk18); you'll still get a little extra gas in the face if you're running a can, but that's a trade-off to allow it to run reliably unsupressed as well.

It was more of a magazine issue than an issue with the firearm. He said it ran flawlessly with PMAGs.

I thought it was common knowledge that the military loads 28 rounds instead of the full 30 in a mag because of the issues you experienced. The reason DD makes a 32 round mag is so you can download the mag but have a full 30 rounds and not deal with issues dropping the bolt on a full mag or other malfunctions a fully loaded mag can cause.

@@edxlee Try inserting a mag into your AR with 29 or 30 rounds, you really have to push it in to get it to lock in place. This is because the bullets are hitting the bottom of your closed bolt. They can cause a mis-feed. Now do the same thing with 28 rounds, it will lock in the magwell with very little force because they are not putting as much pressure on the closed bolt.
My whole time I've been in, I've never heard that. Since when did we ever download to 28?
@@jonathanzamora39 My brother was with the 1st Armored Division in Iraq from 2004 to 2006 and was the first to tell me about this. Karl from Tactical Rifleman also discussed this in a video before. Maybe common knowledge isn't so common.
@@justinbiggs7729 that’s because you’re jamming a full mag into an unloaded rifle. The pressure from the spring is pushing the rounds up against the bolt carrier. That’s why the military trains to lock the bolt to the rear first before loading the rifle.

What’s the effective range
300 meters. I've hit 450 with ease, but depending on ammo type, you will be punching holes. Which will still drop something for sure btw.

same size they've been training with but in 300 blackout, makes a lot of sense to me considering the caliber was _designed_ for that.
The 5.56 is great, but not at 10.3 inches, lots of flash, sound, and velocity dropoff, and the great thing is all they have to do is change the barrel 😏😏

I’d buy a 11.5” Pws mk111 over this. Piston and adjustable gas block for a can makes it a much better upper.
