even though you mentioned he plays Street Fighter, what really makes this crazy for those that don’t know is that to understand the full story you have to understand Snake_Eyez really doesn’t care about Strive at all and was only doing this tournament to prove a point. Basically he’s a Street Fighter player who was like “guilty gear is an easy game. Watch I’ll show you.” And then wins his first guilty gear tournament ever with the worst character in the game (though in fairness, he didn’t pick Pot because he’s the worst but rather because he’s the most similar to the style Snake normally plays since he’s a Zangief main)
Thanks for this additional information. I tried to find out more information about how this came to be, but there are no vods of him really talking about it. So I just went off of what I could find and what people told me.
In his streams, he would often talk bad about GG in general "except Pot", and that he would not touch the game after Street Fighter 6 comes out. I think that is pretty much what happened. I haven't seen him play pot since. Sad for us Pot mains.
New player here, why do people dislike GGST compared to other fighting games? Of course people have preferences, but I feel like it's a pretty cool fighting game for having a smaller playerbase. I tried looking it up, but it's mostly old threads from the beta
@@monkeyarch7510 for me personally, the action is pretty toned down compared to XX and Xrd, and I prefer the visual design of the previous games (see Eddie monster design in previous games compared to the new "cute" one, for example). Not saying GGST is bad, it's just my preference. Removal of air teching also meant that air combo options needed to be simplified and it removed some of the mind games of baiting the tech to get the airthrow vs continuing the so-called "black beat" air combo if the opponent doesn't tech in time or decides to not tech. I just love +R too much 🥰 Try the older games if you have the time and the patience to hang around and learn the basics and you'll see for yourself. They might be harder execution-wise, but learning and doing all that crazy stuff is so satisfying.
As a non Strive player, it's so nice to see all this tech being broken down such that less familiar players can understand some of these crazy nuanced interactions Snake Eyez was taking advantage of. This is all stuff that would go right over my head.
I mean, Snake Eyes is not just highest rated Potemkin player. He's a grappler monster. Does anyone remember his SF4 5vs5 team battle? You know, when he SOLO'ED the entire enemy team? As Zangief? Dude is a certified badass. If there's anyone who can make Potemkin look like an absolute beast, it has to be Snake
@Zman7981 huh, I actually didn't know that. I was always under the impression that in any SF game Zangief was low/bottom tier. Guess I was wrong Then again, Gief is a grappler. And grappler in general is a very volatile archetype. And like you said, Gief being good doesn't belittle Snake's achievments. It was still him against the entire team. They, by definition, had luxury of counterpicking, prepping to their fight by watching him play and, obviously, losing a few matches. While Eyez had no such luxury
To this day I dont think there’s any pot player that plays as good as Snake Eyez. He was nothing short of incredible to watch displaying so much of his grappler fundamentals which he’s been building for well over a decade.

extremely annoying and unbearable tone, breaking the flow of the narration every 20 secs for unnecessarily long and as unberable explanations which could be solved in around... 3 seconds? All that unnecessary commentary on each and every match? Poor quality? Just to mention some
@@helonearthh He breaks is down so non-GGST or non-FG players can understand what's happening. Just because you can perfectly understand what's going on that doesn't mean everyone else can too, dick.
hey, good vid! but i do have a little suggestion for the title, you might want to make it less specific (maybe replace "potemkin" with "grappler" and make it more ambiguous) because after watching the video it seems that your target audience would be pretty large. with the explanation sections your target audience is people who play fighting games, but not guilty gear. if they know about guilty gear they would've known the mechanics except maybe kara cancelling. but those segments are a really nice additions for people who doesn't know how guilty gear works just yet but have already played another fighting game like tekken or SF. the title having "potemkin" would be ignored by them because they don't know guilty gear just yet. while "grappler" or "worst character" are far broader terms that any fighting game player understand. hope this helps! it really is a good video i hope it doesn't just stay unknown to most people
Wow I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. You make a good point with the title swap. I'll try swapping the titles around to see if that improves it. Thank you for the suggestions!
I like the breaking down of tech and strategies. I’m a casual player but that’s always something I wished people would explain in their video so I can understand and appreciate the play better. Subscribed to hopefully see more.
Aye! You can see me near the end popping off when he won! I remember telling James Chen that he could possibly do it and he told me to stop jinxing it. 😂
I absolutely HAVE to start following snake eyez, I wouldn't say I'm a novice to fighting games, but I definitely am to the fighting games comp scene. I've never had such a rollercoaster of emotions. Love pot and LOVED snake's performance, positively brilliant. (fantastic editing too)
I have audio processing disorder and the music is mixed a bit too loud imo, I can't make out what you're saying from the music unless I'm focusing really hard, would be nice to hear it get turned down at least a bit next time
As a new Guilty Gear player and upcoming Potemkin player (mainly for fun), this was a pleasant watch. Quite informative and gave me an idea of the tough road to come. I’m not good at fighting games, but Potemkin’s slow and steady deliberate heavy damage attacks suits my slow brain. Otherwise, I resort to just random button spam and whatever special attack I can remember.
Really enjoying this video, currently 14 minutes in, but I have to note that the tutorial segments feel very weird. It's unclear who exactly the target audience is. A lot of information is left out for people who are new to fighting games. And more experienced players likely won't need much of this tutorialization. You explain what the RC types are, but not the general properties of them (letting you cancel into another move). You mention that they cost meter, but not what meter is and how you gain it, or what else it can be used for. When explaining meaties you talk about DPs and show frame data bars, but people new to fighting games won't know what a DP is or how to read frame data. In some parts you leave out too much information for new players, while in others you tutorialize something essentially only for those new players. Once again I am really enjoying this video and think you've done a great job with it, but in my opinion it could really help if you either improved the tutorials, or ditched them entirely. Because when you already know all that's being tutorialized, it's kind of tedious to sit through all these pauses.
It's interesting because for my exact level of skill (been playing about a month and watching some guides to figure it all out), this level of tutorializing was perfect. I knew generally what RC does but not the difference between them, I knew 'meaty' had something to do with hitting right on wake up but not the specifics, I knew gold burst used to be a thing but not how it differed from normal burst. I knew gatling was a thing but not that you could intentionally add spaces to bait out attacks. I was a little surprised there was no tutorial for jump scare pot bust, but I happen to know how jump scares work, so practically every tutorial had something for me to learn.
Thanks for the detailed explanations on what some mechanics do! Learning my first fgc (and pot) so its nice to know what you can do with the character. Also where do you find the thing that shows the frame data below the characters like the advantage and what is/isn't safe
Most people probably didn't see my other video of talking about guilty gear as 9 other RUclipsrs.
