    Great job of capturing what this round actually does and how it performs with ribs. There's no doubt about the amount of thought and hard work that you put into your videos. You have some of the best shot videos on RUclips.
    I don't understand why people think that this round would cause a jury to do anything different than a normal HP round? They both are designed for maximum damage to stop the bad guys, which is the primary purpose of most weapons, and both are commercially available. A prosecutor may try to make a big deal out of any type ammo used or the gun that fired the round. They may even try to make the person that fired the weapon look like a crazed gunslinger.

      You can always walk away from a legal battle. You cannot walk away from a coffin. This ammo is on point. Its legal, its what was on hand in a lufe or death situation. No biggie.

    The best video I've ever seen on ballistic testing. This is about as realistic as it gets; a carry gun, a reasonable distance for a self-defense shoot, and most of all, a medium that simulates how the round will actually behave. I'm sure a *lot* of time went into making this video!
    The RIP ammo worked really well. I'm going to pick some up.

      A regular hollowpoint simply expands and creates a larger temporary wound cavity. That's like saying " I want to see a 308 compared to a 9mm". There's no comparison.

    This looks like a devastating round, seems to perform as advertised. My only concern would be in a civil court the R.I.P. moniker could be portrayed very negatively to a jury.

    • @richnorman7058
      @richnorman7058 10 лет назад +3

      What would be the difference of getting hit by buckshot? Self defense is self defense it’s not your fault for the tool you use and that you legally bought at a store.

    • @alfredozertuche784
      @alfredozertuche784 Месяц назад

      That has no weight behind it in court. The whole purpose of having to go to court and be judged by the jury is someone more then likely died. Jurors are looking at the situation as to what we're the causes leading up to the shooting. Whether the shooting was justified or not. The bullet design has no affect on the situation at hand. It's all dependent if the guy was a threat or not. The only factures is of the suspect was shot in the back, how many bullets were used, was he defending himself and that was the only option to remedy the situation, scared for their lives, who started the altercation, how the shooting took place, who caused the altercation etc.

    the amount of spread makes me think you could easily hit the targets heart, i dont understand the criticism, i guess people just like hating on beautiful things
    aim for the torso and these will apparently slide through the ribs and spread out
    the idea isnt to create giant channels, its to puncture vitals and it seems to be exactly what it does

    • @eon2330
      @eon2330 4 месяца назад +1

      Heart instant death. Brain, tons of ricochet dropped instantly. Spine will get penned from awkward angles. This is like a tiny shot gun blast AFTER it impacts. It will only have difficulty if your hitting arms and hands and ONLY forearms and hands HORIZONTAL to the point of aim (the main projectile will still kill after an arm shot) legs will clip vital arteries and supporting tendons/ligaments.
      I honestly don't see why people want so much armor pen, they can pen composite body armor with hollow points from a 4 inch barreled hand gun like its a good thing.

    How about Red Jello, In a baggy, like the Ribs. Let the Jello Set Up, and then put it in the front of the block, like the ribs. Even better example would be to put the Rib Bag, in the Front, and then the Jello bag, behind it. Demonstrating that the heart, is approximately 3 to 4 inches, behind the skin / dermis. I was thinking that the Jello, might give an example of what affect the temporary wound cavity might be. Just a thought , Thank You

      GY6vids I think these rounds are ideal in smaller calibers making for a "most damage for least caliber" type scenario which is why they went with 9mm and .380 first ( I use these as my SDR's in my PPK ) . I have to say, if they ever made a .44 magnum version of these, I'd be the first in line to try them in my 629.

  • @TheLionsDen72

    Nice one!! For practical reasons, I think you should shout through a door. After all, the intent is for self defense and more than likely, this will be used in the home. I would like to see how it works through the door, sheet rock, plaster, and/or 2x4s. The thought of ammo that can do this much but stay within a peramiter sounds great. Especially for those who live in apartments where walls are thin and most are stacked with someone else close to ya.
    Would luv to see some of those results.

    • @touofthehighplains
      @touofthehighplains 5 лет назад

      Its been tested in windshield glass. The trocars deformed to the same angle of the windshield causing the trocars to not deploy. What is so amazing about a FMJ projectile? Those trocars didn't even deploy in this test. Those trocars don't have enough mass to retain energy to do significant damage.

  • @Savemeee3
    @Savemeee3 7 лет назад +1

    If you want to really see if this round is capable of doing anything a regular hollow point can't do, make a ballistic torso with ribs, heart, and veins that pump blood, make a few of them and see which one cause the blood to pour out the fastest. While it would be incredibly difficult to do, it would be the closest thing to shooting a live target. Not to mention you would have to attempt to hit the target at the same spots every time

    Try building like a mini wall with Sheetrock and insulation and another piece of sheetrock with the gell behind it to see what would happen if you were to miss your target in a home defense situation. Could put all sorts of things in to like some wire or nails so you can see how it would perform if it were to hit anything on the way through.

  • @smokestakz
    @smokestakz 10 лет назад +12

    what you want from a defensive round is penetration and permanent cavitation....the plug carries forward but the frags do virtually nothing as far as cavitation they are like splinters....painful and fast splinters but splinters nonetheless....a round like the hst that actually expands around .75 and penetrates to 13-15 inches is a 100% better choice....bc under duress you are aiming for center mass and just hoping you tag the heart or spine and the objective is BLOOD LOSS....these are bs....one of these hits a bone and it might not even break apart or even get stuck in the rib cage or a arm bone or etc....you need a sold projectile.

    • @GY6vids
      @GY6vids  10 лет назад +6

      Synapsis You're correct blood loss is the overall goal....and coming from numerous professional forensic officers, doctors, and LEO, that have seen the tram fragmentation has on a subject, these will get the job done for sure! The extreme amount of wound channels alone will cause massive blood loss, not to mention the sheer traumatic shock that would occur would probably shut down the subjects nervous system.
      I have no problem with a persons opinion, but don't be a person of ABSOLUTES, its not the best way to seem "SMART." I have no issue with other PD Ammo either, PDX1, Critical Defense, HST, .....these are all great rounds to use as well. There's always more than one way to skin a cat.

    • @smokestakz
      @smokestakz 10 лет назад +1

      GY6vids im not trying to "seem" smart, i am smart...wont bother you with why, ill just leave it at that....i can be absolute on my, yes, opinion that a round that fragments for 5 inches with tiny fragments is not going to create a better/wider wound channel than a conventional hp that expands on average from .68 to .7x of a inch....the physics and testing of this round do not lend to it being a better round than any conventional hp....there is only one frangible round i can think of that seems to perform on a consistent basis according to testing and shot statistics and thats the 9bple....and i believe itsbecause the round doesnt have a controlled 6 petal flower that only goes out 5 or so inches, that round goes in and grenades into chunks everywhere and each chunk has great penetration....the damaging effect of the rip round is the penetrating base....not the petals....the petals are too small to create a open wound channel....thats what im arguing.....

    • @smokestakz
      @smokestakz 10 лет назад +2

      you were right about me coming off like a absolutist tho...not a good way to debate or relay info...ive noticed that from a bunch of other people lately and haaaaate it and im working on it...so thx for pointing it out.

    • @SalandFindles
      @SalandFindles 7 лет назад +3

      +Synapsis You seem to forget that these bullets are designed to cause major damage and/or kill outright. Imagine you're using G2 RIP ammo. Someone breaks into your house and you fire a single round at them. Let's say you hit them in the lower shoulder or stomach area. Not a lethal shot, right? Wrong, most likely, because one of those trocar pedals is going to splinter off and probably nick the person's heart, killing them instantly, or one of them might puncture a lung. It's like having a tiny shotgun in your hand with multiple pellets upon the impact. There's nothing wrong with this G2 RIP ammunition. A single shot from it will cause devastation due to the multiple pedals breaking off, causing multiple wound channels.

    Comparison Video of R.I.P. Versus halo rounds (civil defense) rounds. Same test with pork ribs. Great demonstration on this though. I'd like to see how it stacks up to the high velocity deep well hollow point though. Thanks!!!

    The few vids I have seen by Tubers I trust have mirrored your findings in this video. With all the internet buzz and its popularity, I hope this round proves to be as useful as advertised. I cannot fight the feeling that a round that performs this way will be used against a shooter in court. I am not sure why I feel that way. Eventually we will find out. GY6vids thanks for the vid. Keep doing what you do.

      Although the ammo looks amazing, I admit that I feel the same way you do. I can't help but think that a prosecutor will have a fun time in court demonizing the shooter, even if the shooting was in self defense. The name of the ammo on the box will give the prosecutor all they need to push a murder conviction. I think I'm going to stick to the good old hollow point for my conceal carry ammunition.

      GunsGearN Freedom Thanks for the comment. Another thing I haven't seen is how accurate the rounds are at different distances.

    Watch the video again
    That thing Explodes in a HUGE radius
    The gel then "comes together" because it's so elastic, and gives appearance of just a simple narrow channel.
    That thing Burst through the internals like a grenade

    Nice performance! I thought for sure at least a couple would fail and stop short due to hitting the bone, those things flew right on through every time! When they come out with some in .40 s&w I'll have to try some out.

    I would like to see an interior door, then layered denim, then ribs. i.e. good guy on one side of the door, bad guy trying to come through on the other. That being said though, I really believe a round that expands and scatters much quicker would be better to ccw with.

    I think the next test should be on one ballistics gel torsos with regular clothes on it similar to deadliest warrior, to see the real life trauma with the full ribs and organs.

  • @stuffdoggg
    @stuffdoggg 7 лет назад

    These Should work well on a direct chest hit but what if it hits an arm or other barrier first, Need to test it through a simulated arm then ribs and then simulated heart behind the ribs , the slug might still be able to get deep enough to hit CNS but I believe the fragments will never get beyond the ribs after passing through an arm, this is why most say this round will not be as good as a bonded billet that retains all its weight even through barriers. The FBI recommended 12" is supposed to compensate for arms etc.

    Shoot it through some auto glass and through normal single or double pain window to show the effectiveness of the round through those two.

    Suggestion: Do a head-to-head comparison with the RIP round and the classic Glaser Safety Slug round. I'd like to see what this round offers ovef the GSS round that has been available for decades.

    You should do a test comparing the R.I.P rounds against standard JHP ammo. A comparison would be good to see.

      It's already been done, the FBI has banned them from duty use for any LEA and has pleadedd with civilians not to buy it as they don't work, to carry better rounds like what LE uses. Put bluntly, this is snake oil and only idiots buy it.

    How much did the main slug at the end of the wound channel weigh? If you go through the trouble of measuring weight retention on JHPs, I think that data point with this round would be much more interesting.

      Dont be foolish, keep in mind the trocars dont penetrate as deep in real tissue, and if the opponent stays sideways of have his arms forward this round wont penetrate well anyways. Im not like a hollowpoint fan, but for this situation its just better.

    • @seangconway
      @seangconway 8 лет назад

      Johannes von' Strauch \Liandri_Development_Group/ ... so pork ribs are not 'real tissue'?

    • @shootinnscootin5545
      @shootinnscootin5545 8 лет назад

      Johannes von' Strauch \Liandri_Development_Group/ Foolish is making a ridiculous comment like that! The round fragments and the fragments make separate wound channels that cause severe internal bleeding and make it almost impossible for doctors to fix. The back half of the lead continues to travel deeper into the target making its own wound channel. It is a very devastating round! If you don't think so then please feel free to volunteer as my Target and we will test out the 380 ACP, 9mm and 45 ACP on some "real tissue" and see if your theory is correct.

    Hey Andrew, love the channel! Can you do a test of some new g2 research ammo? Their new civic duty ammo is similar to the RIP although it is suppose to be a maximum expansion instead of the trocars breaking off! Thx dude, keep on keeping on!

    I've noticed that you often say in your ballistics gel videos that it'll be a pain cleaning the gel up. Do you reuse the gel? Regardless, I'm curious to know how you prepare it, and if you reuse it, how you do that as well. Also, in your early ballistics gel videos, you talked about home made ballistics gel. As someone who's been shooting since the age of 6, I'd be interested in knowing how to make it for my own target practice and ammo tests.

    I will mail you my old Kevlar vest to test on. I haven't seen any tests done on Kevlar and especially with this ammo. If the 9mm can go through standard body armor, we've got issues.

    I would like to see what those rounds will do shooting through glass. Maybe a defensive position while sitting in a car! Will it disrupt the pedal effect once it contacts auto glass?
