5 Reasons People Hate DEATHCORE

- Deathcore has reached the age where its second generation is getting its legs, but its visibility has stagnated. Its fanbase, however, is rabid and loves this sub-genre of metal. A divide exists though, which leads to the anti-fan, the person unwilling to so much as touch deathcore music. Lets find out why.

Asking Alexandria has NEVER been deathcore... They started the synthcore gimmick and shifted to a hard rock sound.
@Metalfan Rockfan Do something better then instead of complaining out of jealousy.
ehhh asking didnt start the synthcore "gimmick," that would belong to enter shakari and attack attack kinda. They made it its initial boom but it was definitely thriving on myspace before those two bands. I dont think asking has ever considered themselves deathcore either.
@@HimothyBurton You are right
I'm a normal guy who looks like he listens to Maroon 5 or any adult contemporary music, when I tell people what I listen they have no idea who the bands are and get mixed to negative reactions like "Oh, alright?" or tilted heads. It's a very lonely life, but I'd rather have my own circle than be shoved into everyone else's.
Lol I love you
"Pig squeals should be left in the farm" I might get a T-shirt of that and wear it to the next concert I go to.
I should had Bree Bree Bree bree

My favorite Deathcore band was All Shall Perish. Other than that i never really listened to it
ASP is one of my top 5 bands actually but because they were original, creative and had top tier guitar work.
It wasn’t just chugs, like jason richardson was in the band and absolutely shredded.
Speaking of Deathcore CKN is there any possibility you can Review the Valley by Whitechapel? I know it's a little late but I'm really curious on your thoughts about the Album.
Its really good imo
Bad deathcore is very bad but good deathcore is very VERY good.
Hell yeah. Deviloof and their blackened deathcore are rocking so hard
All deathcore is crap. Listen to Lurid Panacea instead.
Bad deathcore is very bad good deathcore is decent... Only deathcore band that i can say is very very good is thy art is murder
@@dvir12345 that's because they take from bands that already sounded 100x more awesome like Hate Eternal Cannibal Corpse Origin Morbid Angel. TAIM is Basically death metal with hardcore influences, so if you like stuff by Cro-Mags, Youth of Today, Agnostic Front, Hatbreed then yeah that style of "death metal" is for fans of hardcore. I used to love metalcore Nd deathcore like Suicide silence but I got more into iron maiden slayer sepultura (cavalera era only) exodus posessded sodom sadus and other death metal bands like obituary autopsy and death and along with a bunch of underground punk and grindcore bands, stuff like metalcore deathcore and slipknot just got boring to me and lacked a lot of what I found to love more about music. But thTs just me :) I have friends who love pierce the veil and napalm death LOL
@Dudeman MGTOW I agree
The thing I can't stand about deathcore are the whiny high pitched vocals in bands like Suicide Silence and BMTH. Luckily, the new bands that are coming up tend to not use them as much. I never had a problem with pig squeals or breakdowns, if they are used creatively, they can be pretty enjoyable.
Check out deviloof you may like them. Or signs of the swarm
A Decent Delinquent check out Lorna shore
Same, those bands sounded so whiny and shitass that's the thing most bands have noticed now and use it way less...i mean bands like thy art is murder and signs of the swarm are all about deep crushing sickass lows and gutturals
@@xnevertrytocorner293 and most of all, no pig squeals. Just lows, mids, snarls and gutturals
so u like lows? check out slaughter to prevail
My issue is that it's too clean and forced. Theres no primitive drive and for the most part, the vocals are just insanely cringy 90% of the time.

Ziad Salem He’s quitting RUclips at the end of this year. After that he’ll only do occasional live-streams
Im not as into Deathcore as i was maybe 5 years ago, and i can see why people might not enjoy this genre. I still enjoy it when im in the mood, but its lost something. Just my opinion.
I actually call this the year of deathcore because so many bands are coming out with really good albums imo. I'd love for you to do 5 reasons people hate clean vocals in metal. I have a few ideas but I'd love your take on it.
Love the fact that you can rant on,raising valid argument and making complete sense with little to no scripts!
I'm not someone who watches everything u upload ut rather pick and choose stuff I am interested in. Gotta be said I am yet if ever to find a video I dislike or think that is not well composed. Keep up the good work, regards from the UK
I find every genre has it's greats and it's garbage. Deathcore, at the start I didn't go off on it much, it just felt like metalcore on steroids without the clean vocals. A little later on I did get into some bands like Whitechapel, Carnifex, Knights Of The Abyss (The first album), Signal The Firing Squad but like every genre, out comes many imitators doing the same thing and having the same look and I got sick of it real quick. The violent dancing fanbase at their gigs was the main reason I walked away from the genre...
Suggestion: 5 reasons why some people hate black metal
I was just happy that metal was staying somewhat relevant. The whole breakdown/"BROOTAL! aspects of it always appealed to me. Remember that guitar part at the beginning of For Whom the Bell Tolls, the one with the palm mute? I can remember hearing that for the first time as a kid and something just clicking off in my brain that said "Yup..... this is it. This is the good stuff right here"" and I know chugga chugga catches a lot of shit from people, but there's just nothing else that sounds like that it scratches that itch. I always liked Slayers slower stuff and, going back to Metallica, the riff from The Thing that Should Not Be is something that to this day hasn't gotten old for me. Deathcore could get a little boring to me, since it is rather limited and formulaic, but when it's done well it's pretty great.
james staggs completely agree. I don’t understand why metalheads shit on chugging, it’s heavy as fuck
@@No1WillMakeItOutAlive I know, and Slayer or Sepultura do the same.

Funny how as a newbie to the more extreme genres of Metal with purely growls and shrieks I freaking love Death Metal and Deathcore, but when I hear Black Metal 7/10 I would switch to something else, like that's something that I can't get into...
I mean, I like some bands like Behemoth but even that I guess it's more Blackened Death and Immortal that's like Blackened Power Metal, or simply folk/fantasy stuff but that's about it!
I'm not a big fan of deathcore, but I wouldn't bash someone who is
Thunderfist294 Thunderfist thunderfist same here but with thrash and stuff. People can enjoy what they want. Unless they start bashing my music taste, then I’ll start bashing theirs. I mean I make fun of AC/DC and stuff because I personally can’t stand their music, but at the end of the day I really hope I don’t ever make someone angry or sad based on anything I say about that band
You are a diamond in the rough then :)
the random djenty unmelodical riffs is what puts me off tbh, even tho i enjoy a lot of djent like tesseract and periphery, but deathcore feels like people hitting notes for no reason imo
Can you review The Battle of Yaldabaoth by Infant Annihilator?
Whoa man you still got it!!
i still stand by "This is Where it Ends" by All Shall Perish being the best deathcore album.
Lugal Ki En by Rings of Saturn beats it, IMO

@@user-dj2sz8qn1w Calling me a disgrace but puts a deathcore album as one of the all-time best in the whole metal genre...
Deathcore was cool over 10 years
I lived through this era of metal in high school. Essentially these bands repackaged death metal to appeal to teenagers. They used a lot of chugga-chugga breakdowns and the singers ideally were good looking and had swooshy hair. Those are just about all the defining traits of Deathcore.
Well, that was the first wave of popular deathcore. Nowadays deathcore is very different. It’s either blackened, or it’s reverby af, or it’s infused with beatdown hardcore.
Best summation of the 'core' trend I've seen here so far.
All the worst elements of the early 2000's emo/screamo music (i.e vocals) coupled with *muh breakdown* because everyone knows that's heavy, right ?
Performed by fuckboys with tattoos in their necks who's ambitions of being in a boyband where thwarted by the fact that they were just one year too old.
1 breakdowns are heavy, idk what’s wrong with you if you don’t like some chugs, but metal and hardcore bands seem to both agree that chugging is heavy af
2 name one screamo band. Don’t look it up. I’ll know
3 hardcore is not a “trend”. It’s a genre that’s been around for decades.
Shadow of Intent are the new king's and have redefined the genre since they came on the scene. Definitely would check them out.
Them, Angelmaker and The Last Ten Seconds of Life are on the top of the genre
@@whatcolorisdeath1266 I was disappointed with Anglemakers self titled release, I would replace them with Enterprise Earth. If you haven't heard of the band "Darker by Design" I would definitely recommend them as well.
@@Spite4k Gonna check them out. And also you should check this guy called Cameron McBride. He has a solo project called Methwitch. He has the best vocals you will ever hear
I wouldn't call SoI Deathcore. At worst they're Technical Deathcore but I'd put them in tech death tbh.
@@user-dj2sz8qn1w They lable themselves as deathcore. They are more in the black metal/ death metal genre now but still take the breakdown elements from Deathcore. Almost like Thy Art is Murder.
In my personal opinion deathcore definitely isn't as hated as it used to be now. They have their own group of elitists now which is super wack to me. Also I kinda feel bad for suicide silence, it seams like all the big bands like chelsea grin, carnifex, whitechapel, and even emmure changed a bit on top of that the bands like thy art is murder blowing up and despised icon still being around and doing well they kinda just got the short end of the stick.
I know, I hope I don’t get hate but Bring Me the Horizon and Suicide Silence had some great high-pitched squeals.
I think it mostly had to do with SS’ shift towards a more market friendly Nu-Metal style, believing that good Ol’ Deathcore is gonna become irrelevant. They’re not really acknowledged by the Deathcore community because they themselves thought they were irrelevant.
it's just... the "it all sounds the same" argument actually has some value here. it's one of the more monotonous and boring subgenres of metal out there.
I'm inclined to agree.
one could say the same about death metal, but the counter argument would be tech death, melodeath, and blackened death. Well, deathcore also has technical bands (rings of Saturn), melodic bands (shadow of intent), and blackened bands (Lorna shore). It’s a pretty diverse genre especially these days
@@No1WillMakeItOutAlive I know that argument is dumb and I hate it. it's the same as when pop fans say all metal sounds the same.
what I'm saying is, even for me, a fan of doom, nu, prog, black, mathcore, metalcore, post-hardcore, blackened death metal etc. I can't really find what's special about deathcore. and that's what baffles me. I'm open to so many different subgenres but deathcore just hasn't clicked with me yet. maybe it's just not my thing.
me liking suicide silence's self-titled record more than anything they've done before says it all :D
frank unodostres huh. Yeah idk then. I guess it’s really just not for you idk Whatever tho you don’t have to like it, you’ve clearly given it a chance and you’re not shitting on it either
My PERSONAL best NEW deathcore bands (mostly of this decade) to show to friends, especially those, who think that deathcore is too simplistic or not brutal enough; please look up their new material, because these bands have progressed immensely; subgenre in brackets:
Shadow Of Intent (Symphonic Blackened)
Thy Art Is Murder
Whitechapel
Make Them Suffer (Symphonic Blackened)
Carnifex (Blackened)
Infant Annihilator (Technical)
Shrine Of Malice (Blackened)
Traitors (Beatdown/Downtempo)
Rings Of Saturn (Technical or "Aliencore")
Ingested (Slamming - the slam police approves)

5 reasons why people hate Godsmack
what? who and why could hate them?
@@KamikazaSantoryu oohhh buddy let me tell ya as I used to be a big fan. Still like some of their stuff but not a fan of the new album When Legands Rise. One of the reason their usually compared to Alice In Chains. Now I never thought they sounded that much like Alice In Chains, But to me a lot of people compare them because they got the band name God Smack from one of their songs. Other then that their pretty different. But it can never just be a influence to some people, to them they think Godsmack straight out copied or ripped them off. Also some just think their really generic. Their put on that Nu metal list of bands like Disturbed and Slipknot. Although Sully did say their more hard rock and they never looked at Godsmack as a metal band, Let alone a nu metal band.
SuperNovaThomas the “bro” culture associated with the band. I’m looking at you guys named Kyle

I used to be a fierce hater of anything related to metalcore and deathcore a few years ago, lately I've been really into Thy Art Is Murder lately though. Always keep an open mind I guess.
Lord of War stands out for me.
Fit for an autopsy is good to. They're basically the American thy art.
Growing up in the 80s/90s and experiencing the early Death Metal masterpieces of ENTOMBED, PUNGENT STENCH, VITAL REMAINS, BRUTALITY, SUFFOCATION, WINTER, DISMEMBER, INCANTATION, etc. I'll only ever see Death Core as something silly and unappealing. 🤭 Monotone breakdowns and urban fashion do not good music make!
Lyricism. Imo, Carnifex is a good example of this. Their lyrics are just so "deathcore cliché"-y and you've heard it before. But the instruments and vocals are insane and sound very unique for the genre and thats the reason i listen to them.
Newer Carnifex and Lorna Shore is the best
I got in deathcore because of Infant annihilator
( I know that IA is technical deathmetal, but they got me into the deathcore scene )
No IA is Deathcore
I'm not a huge Deathcore fan but I'll still take it over Slam.
Josh Alan I love slam riffs but personally slam vocals get old for me after a little. Like for the first 5 seconds I think the vocals are super gnarly and cool, and then they get old immediately and kind of take away from the song
Slam is a very mixed bag. You have awesome fucking bands within the genre but allot of stale crap.
But honestly the bands I love are :

Septic congestion
Extermination dismemberment

Pig squeals are exactly why I hate deathcore. I don’t mind the breakdowns because a lot of metalcore bands do it too and I love metalcore
I take it that you don’t like black metal either?
FalloutFan66 the majority of modern deathcore bands rarely if ever use pig squeals
Kharn correct. It’s just not my thing. Neither is slam or grindcore. The farthest I go in terms of screaming is melodic death metal such as Arch Enemy. Children of Bodom is a good just straight up death metal band too. But for screaming I listen to more metalcore and post-hardcore. Those are just my tastes
What's that album with the "Skull" artwork behind your head sir?
I don't discriminate
I hate everything ending on the letters *'core'*
Same here. Although I'd use 'prefer pop to' than 'hate'
Even grindcore like Terrorizer or Napalm Death?
That includes converge, harms way, napalm death, nails, weekend nachos, orchid, infant annhilator, black tongue, disembodied, Dillinger escape plan, wormrot, setsuko, and botch. Aka some of the most abrasive and angry music out there apart from straight up noise music. But no, core genres are weak right? 5 reasons love/hate metalcore
Acacia Strain and Whitechapel are the only two deathcore bands I know, and they are both definitely in my top 5
@_unknownhell_ downtempo?
Deathcore and metalcore are just new permutations of the same thing that happened in the early 2000’s with nu metal and in the 1980’s with hair metal. They took the idea of metal and tried to repackage it for edgy teenagers while ignoring everything that makes metal interesting and unique.
It’s a product produced specifically to sell to kids. In that way it’s the same as pop. And is therefore trash.
Agreed, although there's metalcore bands (the least poppy and mainstream ones) who are pretty good imo
All Shall Perish and Carnifex are at the top of Deathcore hill.

Yo this guy knows his shit damn
I just now realized you have a horrendous poster behind you... can I have it?
Old deathcore to me sounds like really amateurish death metal made by high school kids. Modern deathcore, while exhibiting a lot of virtuosity and technicality, is overproduced to a ridiculous degree. You can tell its heavily edited in post, which makes it sound soulless and robotic. The entire genre seems to follow a strict formula too, and there isn't really much of a difference between the overall sound of most deathcore bands.
"Scene Kids destroy hardcore and metal"
I don't get the hate at all. I love deathcore and it's the main subgenre that gets shit on
"Hello, 2011" perfectly describes Deathcore
the overdowntuning and overusing breakdowns there are like 5 in all songs now also some vocalist just shouldn’t
Every point listed is why I like it, except the first part which is just a broad and innacurate stereotype

Wait what happened about a month ago?
I love Deathcore, and have since around 2007, 2008; but I still agree with much of the complaints to a degree. I always hated pig squeals, overly boring or generic breakdowns (I promise, there are great breakdowns, and they're beyond just Deathcore) or some of the fans (every genre has it's idiots and assholes); but I hate gatekeeping Death Metal purests, and Heavy Metal purests (they happen to hate each other anyways) they really think all metal should sound the same. If they has their way, the world would be boring as Hell. There would be no innovation or experimentation at all. We'd get the same albums over and over and over again. Not all music has to be technical as fuck, there's Groove Metal for a reason. Sometimes people just want to get lost in some extreme emotions and rhythms
Lord of War stands out for me.
The 5 Reasons series is still wonderful.
I think a few reasons why people hate it is because tween girls like it. I think another is because the music is more simplistic than death metal, but there's also deathcore bands that have broken away from the simplicity, like Born of Osiris, Rings of Saturn, etc.
Shadow of Intent, Rings of Saturn and older Whitechapel are exceptional!

The major reason is it sounds shit
I don't see any of these as valid points
Death metal is no less samey
I would definitely agree that the overall generic/stale nature of deathcore is the reason why it has so many detractors. It's the same reason why Metalcore fell from grace. With the exception of All Shall Perish, Job for A Cowboy (their last album especially), and Conducting from the Grave, the genre as a whole lacks technicality and melody. Listening to a record feels more like listening to a shit dubstep EP than listening to metal. I would rather listen to a death metal band that utilizes breakdowns sparingly than listen to a deathcore band bc I know that it's just going to be a downtuned chug fest for 3 min straight.
The pig squeals are fine. What I hate is the nasally, whiny, emo clean vocals. AND EVERY SINGLE CLEAN SINGER SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME. It's like all core bands get the same dude who's balls haven't dropped to do the clean vocals for the band.
And people say nu metal was shitty. I'd take Limp Bizkit over Suicide Silence any day.
If that’s the case then you just don’t like breakdowns and heavy music.
A lot of the bands I enjoyed that aren't popular are long gone now in that genre.
@@No1WillMakeItOutAlive lol wut. Breakdowns are shit and I agree with this guy.
