    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    I totaly agree with you randy on this braid to florocarbon nonesense! First, there is really no need for that, and through the elements which youv'e explained very well i add!! This is old so. Ill. Again, and i would like to add to another major, no need for it!! Example......here in so. Ill., most of our water is bathtube water, and another thing....i don't care what anybody says, they have never said enough, about just how good the eyesight of a bass, really is!!!! We have an older jentlmen here, by the name of JAY ZAPP! And is an avid scuba diver!!!! And his lake of choice, is cedar lake, just outside of carbondale il. And if you are fishing, against this older man there,,, figure on second!!!! And he wiil be the first, to tell you, that studing braid, from under water, you just as well be throwing clothes line rope, because thats exactly what it looks like, to the human eye!!! The rest is just good sense. If it looks like that,,, to the human eye,,,, what do you think a bass see's????? End of story!! So.ill. 😎

    For me, one of the best time to use a reel with anti-reverse switch is when I'm on the boat fishing with upper structures water. The back reeling is best to maneuver the fish around with controlling to prevent getting stuck on trees in the water. That's why I still keep some of my Daiwa ballistic LT and Daiwa tatula LT. Great video and thanks for the information.

    I’d like to afford the Megabass shaky rod one day. At $345 that’s a bit high for me while trying to also buy and set my son up for college fishing and getting him through HS. I’d like the 6’11 or 7’0 medium/fast. My main lake is Lewis Smith so I fish a lot of finesse. Maybe one day if my son don’t break me first, lol.

    Back reeling is the way to go! Years ago I was just out fun fishing on Clear Lake and unbeknownst to me a tournament was happening. I was fishing one of my favorite docks with a shaky head. I had a 6.5 lamiglass rod and a 2500 Shimano reel. I was throwing a margarita mutalator on 8lb floro. Felt a little tick and set on it. An the epic battle began. Long story short I shifted into back reel and faught this fish for what seemed like 20 minutes. I had to chase him down with my trolling motor. Finally I boated this beast and I estimated his weight visually at 8 lbs. I placed him into my live well in hopes of finding someone to take my picture, later in the day. Just as I was moving my boat back toward the dock a boat pulled right in front of me and they said, we’re in a tournament, we need this dock. I said, “I just stuck an 8 there”. They said”where” I replied, “right where you parked your boat”. They said, “oh BS”. I went to my live well and pulled the fish out, right in their face, and released it. I don’t think I would have landed that fish without the back reel. Cheers!

      Lol, i would have done the same thing to those pricks...lol. I was fishing a very small cove one day and there was a pretty large tournament. Me and my buddy where fishing the cove and here come two douche bags hauling ass in there and didn't ask if they could fish it or nothing. They literally almost scraped our boat when they came in. They totally cut us off, they where throwing rattle traps and lost 3 fish right off the bat. I threw my carolina rig and caught a 5 lb largemouth, i held it up and told them thats what you get for cutting us off...lol

    Give me a 6'9" med lt BPS Extreme rod with a Shimano 4000 reel. I use 10 lb test Power Pro connected to 10 yards of 8 to 10 lb Berkley 100% fluorocarbon with a double uni knot. Most important is the Boss Brent Erhler shakey head. Just reel set and the hook penetrates totally through the fish's head. Long leader prevents retying double uni so often without losing the feel gained with braid. Like the commercial said " try it,you'll like it".

      I love straight flouro. I hate when my leader breaks, and I have to re-tie. I change flouro on all my rods once a month. It isn’t good long term. They all have a lot of memory.

  • @braddistler5697
    @braddistler5697 3 года назад

    I learned a modified Alberta knot that’s super fast easy in wind and waves and slips through my small holes. I don’t even think twice about sticking a new leader on now. Loop stick braid through loop. Wrap 7 times down then 7 up and stick back through hole you came through. Come out or follow the same way as Braid comes into that hole. Cut super deep into knot so no tails and it’s never slipped or broke yet. Another of my best tips is to bite the line before drop shot weights and it’ll break off on that crimp instead of stretching everything and loosing inches of line every snag.

    I've found that I get better accuracy with a 6'-6'9" medium light rod. I also use a smaller, 2000 series reel. The way this works FOR ME is that I use GLISS. 18lb Gliss is the diameter of 4lb fluoro. It's many filaments of Dyneema that are thermally extruded, or heated and stretched, giving you the tensile strength of braid without the distance killing ridges. This combo kills many birds with one stone. 1st, the shorter rod gives you improved accuracy for casts between willow bushes or other close-up overhangs, while the tiny diameter and slick texture of the Gliss allows you to use a smaller, lighter, less fatiguing reel without sacrificing casting distance when needed. It also allows for a lighter-medium light or even light action, spinning rod because there is zero stretch. Absolutely nothing matches it for fish detecting sensitivity. I also find this rig allows for easier use of ¹/¹⁶oz worm heads. I prefer the diagonal fall of the Spider Slider head and the bottom contact of the ⅛oz Spot Remover head. I find this smaller, lighter finesse spinning outfit fits the bill for my finesse worm needs.

    One of my favorites knots for a shaky head or Ned rig is a uni knot. From my experience it protects the line better that the palomar and the hook set is better. Im still experimenting with jig heads but so far the spot remover pro buckeye lures is my favorite. I have heard that berkley makes some awesome shaky heads too. I also use a medium baitcaster sometimes for my shaky heads just so I don’t have to carry three rods fishing from the bank. One very satisfying way to catch them on a shaky head is to use a small craw style bait or ribbon tail worms.
