😆 baahh young fellow! I did swich my skis to a board in the age of 46. I learnded pretty fast the game - may be that a life long martial arts back round helped to control the body. Never back to skis! Like you said, very useful videos. Let's keep on boarding👍
I swear I have watched every single 180 tutorial on RUclips but none of them even come close to this one, great work! Also can you do backside 180s please?
Went on my first runs of the season this week and after watching your videos all off-season I went out there and had so many mechanics and fundamentals in my mind that I worked on and I’m a completely different snowboarder now! Can’t thank you enough for these awesome breakdowns!
That you for this mate, I'm a Coach for Mammoth and appreciate your videos. The bit where you land 90° in preparation for 540's or 7's so your prepared for not dying was great, appreciate it
This is BY FAR the best lesson I’ve seen on this. The progression makes so much sense and much easier to eliminate fear! Can’t wait to get out there this week and try it now!
Tommy love the videos, thanks for making them. I am 56 years old, off and on 26 years of snowboarding . Learning a lot ,going to the slopes tomorrow to practice some of your teachings! 1978, I had a snurfer. Thanks a ton: Scott
Yep, he has totally made the transition from instructor to coach when the level of mastery is enough to explain at several different levels, speeds, communicate for multiple learning styles.
Learning a lot about coaching from you Tommy. I love your teaching progressions. Gonna help me pass my level 3 this year lol. Would love to geek out on snowboarding with ya if you ever come visit Woodward Bachelor. 🤙✌️
went to go spend a whole day doing 180s - by the end of it i was able to huck back 540 and front 360s off sidehits - thanks tommie youre a legend. def buying your goggles.
Watched your back 1and pop vids. Put ALL your key points to work to consistently hit them flat and on rollers without unintentionally buttering the nose. ThanKS my dood for the tips!
You somehow always read my mind. I was out tryna figure out FS 1s at bear two days ago. Got a couple sketchy ones in, but this progression is for sure gonna make them feel good.
Perfect video for what I was working on the other day, definitely going to digest this info and put it to practice this Sunday! Loving these in-depth nerdy vids!
Great progression explained very well!!! I'm becoming a SB instructor after being a long time ski instructor even though I started snowboarding in the early 1990's!
This video is amazing, I’ve been having trouble creating the momentum for the 180 and after some practice with the progression it feels like super natural and easy now
Really appreciate the information... Knowledge is powerful...!!! Heading to SnoBowl in Flagstaff this w/e to practice more techniques from your vids!!! 💯🤜🤛🤘
you should make a video where you talk about other snowboard cultural taboos like the tindy all my friends and i started snowboarding in our mid 20s and we all know nothing about snowboard "culture" lol
Love the video - are you riding a camber or a rocker or hybrid? I was doing the 90 degree jump-turns and catching edge every time. I ride a camber hybrid, for jumps, park and groomers but I'm thinking about getting a rocker for these kind of tricks and butters. What camber would you suggest for an intermediate rider, but beginner with tricks?
You should add drawings to describe in a different cutscene as sometimes explaining with your mittens can be confusing. I’m gonna practice this weekend. I tend to get scared throwing the 180 spins and landing on the edge and twisting my hip. Great video!!
Hey dude! Your videos and content are great. Just one thing if I may? Should you be saying variable not veritable when describing the changing certain details of a trick? I know what you mean, but it might come across wrong for foreigners who will translate you videos. Keep up the good work! All the best, Rich in Sweden.
Sounds and looks easy... Until I got out there and froze all that confidence watching videos just evaporated on the slopes😂😂⛑️ but that's all I practice now is jumps and not so hard tricks, want to be able to board park by the middle of next season...🤞🏿
Coach Tommie, on my take-off my nose side foward knee gets sore from popping from trying to do my frontside and backside 180s, it feels like I am missing a critical take-off step and am winding up trying to do my 180 too early putting too much torque on my foward knee, it's not a landing issue (see time 3:55 in your vid) but is a take-off issue. How do I fix this problem before I damage my foward knee? Thank you for the great vids
When you are switching sides by doing 180s on the ground without any air, are you changing from one edge to another, or is there a point where you are just flat?
Might be a dumb question but what it the difference on the backside and frontside? I know on the rail is which ever side face the rail when you pop on but how can you tell going down the fall line?
Tommy. I find that back side 180 is a lot easier than front side. I can back side fine but still am having a hard time with the front side. With back side, I can use the toe edge for grip for pop and spin. Front side, just never can get a good grip for pop and spin. Any tips besides what's in this vid?
Two reasons: it's easier to balance on your toes than on your heels, and you can jump higher from your toes than your heels. You can test this standing in your living room - how far forward can you lean vs how far backward? How high can you jump from your toes vs jumping off of your heels? The tip is to think about lifting your toes to create a heel edge (better balance) instead of trying to put more weight into your heels to create an edge (harder to balance).
Another thing to remember is that it's easier to balance when you're going fast enough, kind of like riding a bike - at slow speeds you turn by using the handle bars, but at higher speeds you can start to lean the bike without it falling over. Same thing with needing enough speed to lean in order to create an edge for spinning - just be careful!
Ok, so do I need to learn pop and ollie first and then try this ? Or I can go with just one of those 2 first and then 180 ? or I can go straight to 180 ? Idk cuz I just learned S turns recently, and I wanna kinda speed up the process cuz winter is ending...
“This drill right here will teach you how to not die.” 🤣
On a serious note, your videos have helped a LOT
Yewww
As a 37-year-old beginner snowboarder, your videos have been so helpful. Love having some drills to practice. Keep doing what you're doing, mate!

Same, I'm 37, and I'm about to hit the snow for the 3rd time in my life
Same for me
Same here, I'm 36 and started late last year and thought I may be too old of a dog for these new tricks, but these videos have helped a TON!
Front 1s aren't hard, you just do it. (I also skate for 6 years)
I think I shall learn switch riding decently first
Jump switch to regular, that's how i did
Switch is tons of fun just takes lots of practice
I actually learned doing these jumping switch and landing regular, and by pracicing these, I automaticaly started to get better at switch.
I swear I have watched every single 180 tutorial on RUclips but none of them even come close to this one, great work!
Also can you do backside 180s please?
Nice steps to follow for making 180. Impressed by the part for 90 - I’ve never thought of doing that first. Thanks!
Awesome video!!!
Ultimate Snowboard Guide To Backside 180 please

I always love how you break down each step and get into detail! You always explain it so simple compared to others! Thank you!!!

This video is very helpful. This Thursday gonna be my first day practicing 180s. Thank you!
This is the best 180 video! Why I always want to learn but always chicken out on the slope?
I literally needed this today! Perfect timing! I'm going up tomorrow and I'm going to be bring this video with me!
Thanks!!
Dude I appreciate you so much for all these videos
Thanks for breaking it down Tommy. Awesome 180 progression! Helped my wife a ton.

Just afraid of falling while my torso has not completly rotated.
This was fantastic! Thank you for the tips and the excellent teaching style. Will try this tomorrow
Amazing content as always 👍🏼👍🏼
Hey tommie i think you forgot to link to your switch video at around 4:29 :)
Thought I had Sub to your channel, don’t worry I have now and loving it. Look forward to winter to watch 👍🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Love it dood! Popping and locking
The hills are too small in iowa for big runs but we got room for good parks. I’m going to work on this over the weekend
i love your videos ☺ . if you add english subtitles , we can choose Turkish subtitles .
Just the thing I need this season!
Fire video man! I'm going to be practicing this here on the Ice Coast tomorrow!
Thank you very much for the video. love from Turkiye
Every time you say How to not Diee! I chuckle a little lol
im literally going to be doing this tomorrow at Eldora to learn
Ayy imma work on it too, let me know if you get it.
Yooo
@@tpespos got them down front back switch and reg. Rode greens for like 2 hours to practice. Definitely worth it to get better.
Can you make a video on butters? I’m struggling to get rotation
I will be getting down my 180s at trollhaugen on Monday
Thank you
Your tutorial are the best!!!
Awesome video as always !!! The landing should be necessary on the heels, isn't it?
Love the video - are you riding a camber or a rocker or hybrid? I was doing the 90 degree jump-turns and catching edge every time. Yesss! Need this right now
“ how to not Die”😂 that was silly
Thank you. It's very useful
Love your channel. Gettin stoked for my session today. Do you have a video on backside 180s?
Thanks soooo much for this!!
dope tutorial very detailed
How can anyone give this film a 👍🏻 Down, so much detail and help. 🤙🏻
For me this trick was really easy to learn, pretty much did it first try on my second day snowboarding ever. But maybe that's because I skateboard.
This video is perfect for me if broken my arm while doing a 180 so i need some help!
Sick as always T 🔥🖤
Thanks!
This is amazing
180's are life.
Nice video....I been doing 180 wrong all these years lol
Was supposed to be in the Alps today, everything's closed till mid Feb in FRance, sucks big time!
You should add drawings to describe in a different cutscene as sometimes explaining with your mittens can be confusing. I’m gonna practice this weekend. I tend to get scared throwing the 180 spins and landing on the edge and twisting my hip. Great video!!
Great idea I am editing some of this in the new videos to come
I’m going to do the challenge
Thank you!!!

You and Jbuckhouse were made to be best friends haha
SuperMegaExtra guide for learning 180😀
Yes teach us not to die thank you
A critique would be to show footage of what your talking about while your talking about it. Helps us visual learners more
sweet!

Pop vs Ollie vid please! : )

A quick question.... u think having a bit shorter board would make it easier for maneuverability and such moves like 180/360?
No video tutorial makes this style in Turkey, you will increase your number of followers I'm sure you can fill this deficiency
just a bit more video demonstration of what you are talking about would be good Tommie
I can 180, Fs and Bs in every stance skateboarding. Will the skills transfer to snowboarding, at least for the movement ?
Can you another vid (please) for backside 180?
Hi Tommie, what board do you use?
When you are switching sides by doing 180s on the ground without any air, are you changing from one edge to another, or is there a point where you are just flat?
I ❤ tommie 😂
Wait, is that a Propacamba??? 😍
Might be a dumb question but what it the difference on the backside and frontside? I know on the rail is which ever side face the rail when you pop on but how can you tell going down the fall line?
how do you have your snood underneath your goggles without steaming up??
Do you were stiff or flex boots/bindings?

You are popping, not Ollie
My heelside takeoffs feel so weird. I don’t get as smooth of pop as going off the toes.
So much so I actually feel more comfortable throwing front 3s of the toes
Yeah you get more pop off the toes but most people find frontside easier just coz you can see better.
I can do a back 180 and a back 360 but I can’t do frontside anything haha it feels so weird to me
Tommie, Why do you have to pop from heel side? How about from toe side?
u can pop from toe side as well
Front side I'm good but it's the backside I need work on
