His entry into the wall was spot on, no one was expecting the move to block him, and the fact that on the last corner and no one got spun out. The reason this worked at Martinsville, and wont work at other tracks, is the difference in corner speed vs straightaway speed. At Martinsville these cars are braking to at least 45% of their straightaway speed. No other tracks do this. Chastain was slowing as he scrubbed around the wall, but nowhere near the extent the others were braking. Numbers I would like to see is what percentage of Chastain's speed was lost when he got off the wall on the front stretch. At Bristol, if you lose 12 to 15 percent of your speed on the wall, but only lose 10 percent of your speed under normal braking, no advantage.

This is one of those moves where the driver did nothing wrong - it was perfectly legal, and Chastain deserves credit for having the nerve to try it.
At the same time, NASCAR should never allow this to happen again. Though I agree that the correct answer is to do something about the design of the car so that it is no longer an *advantage* to do this, rather than trying to make rules against it which potentially would lead to messy judgement calls.
As some others have observed, now that everyone has seen this, the next time someone tries it, *someone* will defend against it. And that could end up making a really big mess. Better to take that possibility off the table.
Again, though, all credit to Chastain for doing it the first time. Finding loopholes in the rules is part of the great tradition of NASCAR.
But so is closing those loopholes once they're discovered.

7:10 it already isn’t a goal, it is an opportunity that presents itself in an incredibly small window and the cost is destroying a race car. Doing it for a cutoff spot or championship win would really be the only places to do it. Maybe if you were like a LaJoie trying to get a win mid season.

If nascar makes a rule for that move it will be just another reason to not watch nascar and to think they will start doing this every week is a dumb

It was a bananas move. I'd like to see mathematical odds of not wrecking it. The glory in making it is all deserved. But I wouldn't want to be him having to weigh trying it again

Kudos to him for having the Ballz to try it and it paid off big time . The best part is he eliminated Hamlin! NASCAR has been dieing for last 15+ years. This got people talking and even my friends who gave up on nascar.

Have the Daytona 500 at the beginning, and than the coke zero 400 at the end of the season. Like, honestly. That would be the best thing in this points system.

Ross has made non Nascar fans click on NASCAR contents. Greatest move in motorsports history.
Now question. What's NASCAR going to do about this move? If you ask me don't do anything! If anything do something to the car and race track to incorporate this😁.

On top of Christopher Bell's walk-off win, which he needed due to Bubba's poor anger management skills, we have the most exciting move I've ever seen. If NASCAR doesn't come up with a rule about this, we'll see it again. While it was cool to watch, there are a lot of things that could have gone wrong, especially since nobody saw it coming. Carl Edwards tried the same thing at Kansas years ago, and it was pretty cool to see that, but it didn't work because the steel bodied cars crumple and tires blow. The composite bodies are strong enough (too strong, IMO) to let this work. It makes for exciting viewing, but it's just so dangerous.

So as an outsider looking in
I think nascar, as an industry, has an opportunity to either capitalize on here, or be forgotten by the masses once again. This one moment has more than 10 times the viewership of the Daytona 500. And it's only been a week
NASCAR can come out and say they're banning this, or they're changing the cars or the walls so that it just can't be done anymore. Perfectly reasonable. Also boring. And boredom is a killer for sport. Especially a sport that already has the masses looking at it as just a boring thing to do when you're drunk.
If they can figure a way to make it so much safe. This gives the finale of any race it's possible in, the ability to actually have an exciting finish. The thing that makes the NFL so interesting, is that genuinely the game can turn. Is it really can't do that. It's kind of always the same like little group of four people that you know are going to win by those 50 left.
I hope they figure out a way to capitalize on this, and use it to elevate the sport to a new level. I won't be surprised if they take the safe road and don't make any changes beyond UN not allowing this to happen anymore. But I will be disappointed

Letarte needs to get off commentary. So does Burton. Their high pitch talking over another and shouting for no reason, treating the viewers like they've never watched a race before, pontificating, and let's add all the clips of them missing obvious things and being wrong. Nascar is in a good place right now. I have 2 friends who are getting into it. They keep asking me why these guys are shouting and talking to fans like they are 5 years old

Something they failed to mention in this working the way it did is the timing of it.
If Ross was a second further back and tried this while it would have been spectacular, he wouldn't have beat Hamlin to the finish line and would have just been the laughing stock of NASCAR.
If Ross was a second further ahead and tried this he would have slammed into the back of Keslowski going 70mph faster than him and due to Newtons 1st law would have likely lost all momentum propelling Keslowski through the finish line and wouldn't have beaten Hamlin.
