This review addresses the same problems highlighted in a video by WestCoastCamaroZ28 from 2019. Despite four years passing, it seems the manufacturer hasn't made any improvements. You can check out his video here.

That sucks. Wonder why they dropped the ball on the Camaro ones, the 85-92 firebird ones are great.
Ya wish they spent more time on Quality Assurance. These would sell so much more with positive reviews behind them.
Thanks for the shoutout! YEP I had the same issues EXCEPT for the translucent black paint. Mine I remember was perfectly fine.. What I found with the astray and I BELIEVE I showed it on my video that you linked, is that the actual spring would FLOP around because the arm they had was MUCH longer in theirs (OER) than the original so what happened is that it would work the first time, but VERY QUICKLY the long rod on the spring underneath would slide away and then it would stop opening. I would need to open the console and push it back to the correct position only to slide back again the instant I would attempt to open the ashtray.
What I find interesting is how both Classicindustries and Hawks all have 5/5 stars from multiple people (Even recent) yet the issues are there. Same with the dashpad.. I posted my honest review and they never released it so everyone is seeing that it's PERFECT when in fact it's not... Just like this OER shifter... far from perfect and literally dangerous since you cannot tell what gear you are in....
I've had other GREAT products from Hawks, it's just a shame they continue to sell this what clearly should be RECALLED product on their other line of products.
thank you for reminding me about the spring thing. Yes it's still long like that, and mine did come out too when I was installing it. Seems like they've fixed nothing over the years.
I could almost live with it, and make it work. IF the darn black wasn't transparent. I can't fix that properly. So annoying as I really wanted a new looking center console. So I guess I'll have to try and find a good used one.
Oh and did you notice my power window switches? Those were new from Hawks, got them maybe 5 or so years ago. Notice how they are white? They weren't when I got them new. They faded from Yellow to White in that time.
Keep in mind this car sits in the garage like 99% of the year.
So tired of these reproduction parts just being cheaply made.
@@caraudiocentral OMG!!! that explains why both my power door lock switches are also lighter than my original power hatch switch!!! I was wondering that myself... that explains it. Wow!
@@thecamarogarage sucks doesn't it. those weren't cheap either :(
You didn’t put a brighter bulb in it did you? I had heard about the ashtray and indicator but I didn’t know the display would look like that. Why not just make it correctly?
It was an LED bulb that I've been using for years. I didn't try it with an normal bulb since I didn't have any. But with the factory plate and with that same LED bulb it looks fine (no bleed through of light at all).
So it's something with the reproduction piece. The black is just not dark enough.
Yes why can't company's just make these things right.
Hope this video helps you decide before you buy.
