One of The Greatest Artists Who Ever Walked The Planet. His plaintive Voice & His Slurring biting melismic Guitar are unique, exponential & eternal. Long Live The King.
Every guitar player in the world should watch what is guitar playing. Every singer in the world should listen to THE VOICE. In a nut shell, it is Freddie King. That is how the guitar is played and that is The Voice. American Idol and The Voice should tell the contestant one thing: Freddie King.
What can you say about that ??? I'm simply stunned , awesome doesn't do it justice , how many performers today could come within bootlicking distance of this true artist . WOW again !!!
Said it before ------ no one could sing the blues like him --- this piece is timeless --- this piece is forever --- and man could he play --- Freddie King --- the great one -- go on soul man
So, this is the Freddie King Grand Funk Railroad sang about. I got into the blues in the 80's. I had never heard anything about him. Wish I had, I would have liked him a lot! He died 10 years too early for me.
This is why RUclips is so great. I only got to see the great man once....and it was not this show. This is absolutely scintillating blues, a phenomenally great and wonderfully representative video of the Texas Cannonball. Simply incendiary blues from one of the greatest ever! Thank you so very much for posting this priceless footage. Had there been no Freddy King, there would have been no Eric Clapton.
You are correct, yet, Eric Clapton is a three times inductee to the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame, and is always listed well above Freddy King in the greatest Guitarist of the Rock Era. Pale people are just hypocritical, machievellian pieces of sh*t.
It's old school Blues player like this makes me ito carrie on the History and legacy of the Blues and keep on playing this music Blues Grip Entertainment 🎸
Jimi once said," It's the matter of the 3 Kings!" Years later, the NY music shop owner that sold Jimi music equipment in the late 60's realized he wasn't talking about the Egyptians.... He was bringing up B.B., Albert (Whom he took lessons from when he was young- 19/20 years old), and this master, Freddie... Incredible...
Jeez...Freddie was a god damn machine! His attack is phenomenal, his bends hit the spot every time, his vibratto is beyond compare and speed? What a player. I'd like to get my hands on this whole concert. Thanks for making my morning.
I agree with you. I was raised in London UK and saw Freddie perform with Clapton, Ron Wood, etc in July 1976. Nobody onstage came close to Freddie. The voice, the stage presence. I recall when Sonny Boy Williamson went over to jam with The Yardbirds, Stones ..he said "'These Brits think they play Blues..they sound like shit!"'. I saw Otis Spann in London. What a voice.
Sonny would say that in 1963. Some years later, he would feel ashamed for having said these words, simply by watching Eric play... And since 1970, the way he sang
I also love Freddie, and he is no doubt the complete package. However, that said, if I had to vote for Blues guitarists worthy of the moniker the Orbison of the Blues (ergo superlative vocal abilities) I'd lean towards Magic Sam and Otis Rush
Freddie was also known to play the Super 6,from time to time,6×10"spk,,100 watts, I had to let that one go cheap,,oouch!couldn't fit in my chevette,,and heavy!
Taking you to school Young Folks this is why the blues is a blues and this is the way it should be done there's only one Freddie King and one day up in heaven I'm going to tell him thank you Friday I hope I get to do that thank you Freddy for all you've given us especially your blues and it's me and my soul thank you very much just a fight
Fantastic. I've heard E.C. Play this in many different live versions, and recording. And I am a huge Clapton fan, but he has got nothing on Freddie's playing, or especially his singing. Slow blues guitar at its finest!
that's weird you say that cos i thought he was sloppy as hell. 2:12 he completely loses the beat, for this kinda music you gotta stay on point. it's all about freddie doing his thing, his stick grip is awful as well. ;) sorry
Dr. H In 1972 he would be one of the greats, I suppose but today his playing does not sound remarkable, things have moved on. Freddie Kings voice is certainly one of the best blues voices I have heard, however. Everybody has a favourite bluesman and Freddie comes from an enormous pool of great blues men to choose from.
H.J.W There is much, much more about this guy...in others song s he wasn't make mistakes...He was great drummer, problem is that nobody knows nothing about him nothing today? UH WHAT I HATE THAT!!!!!!!
I've never seen a video of Freddie King. Chills are going up and down my spine. What a great player and singer!
Imagine if he'd lived and played on he 43 passed so sad

Just Amazing he and my mother was 1st cousin both of them are gone now Rest in peace.
Freddie in fine form here. One of the greatest electric bluesmen for damn sure!
This generation is gone. This is the real blues right here, and I don't know if its ever gonna come back. Trucks and Gary Clark shine bright though.
Blues all over St Lou!! Some original, some bar bands. But easy to find here.
Deep soul of civilization, these the people who tamed the savage enslaving beast

My personal favorite of the 3 Kings.
@Les Caster: yeah-- he's my favorite King, too ! I was lucky to see him in '73. . . and he played with the same intensity he displays in this video.
Les Caster definitely & a big influence on Eric Clapton too, checkout his performance of this track in Sweden 1973!
Me too.. they are all superb of course
Mine too. Love that attack. Wailing voice, wailing guitar.
One of my favorite blues musicians!
I'm loving the drummer! He is having all the fun in the world.
he was a really bluesman and a great guitar player! R..I.P Freddie!

Sublime..... This says it all........
Freddie was the whole package...Amazing playing, singing, and a gut punch of soul!
The man is on fire.He always was.
The guitar strap on one shoulder, what a freaking dude. Love the mic stand slide ending!
And now you young blues lovers know why Freddie King was known as the Texas Cannon ball. What a man !!!
One of The Greatest Artists Who Ever Walked The Planet. His plaintive Voice & His Slurring biting melismic Guitar are unique, exponential & eternal. Long Live The King.
He gave life to ZZ Top..SRV and Clapton....oh,,so many.
Truly inspirational but let us not forget Albert King
Jon Blake a big influence on Clapton who said one of the first blues records he bought was ‘ Hide Away’

A stunning performance
...he’s majestic and superb!!.. but that drummer, man oh man...
Charlie Robinson missing in action.
Nobody knows where he Is .
Many years.
the amount of soul coming at me is unbelievable... proud to say that I'm a bluesman
Only thing better than how he sounds playing is how he sounds singing!
Just, simply, breathtakingly awesome
This group was mind blowing
Hot band. Discovered Freddie when I was 15. I'm now 63 and he's never left me.

How was it like seeing him live?
I saw him open for Buddy Miles, Leon Russell headliner. Inglewood Ca. Forum 1971.
And no Albert King no SRV.
You are correct, yet, Eric Clapton is a three times inductee to the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame, and is always listed well above Freddy King in the greatest Guitarist of the Rock Era. Pale people are just hypocritical, machievellian pieces of sh*t.
Freddie king one of the all time greats. Legend. Emotion is expressed flawlessly.
An incredible performance from the "blues master."
Cannot believed I have not watched his clips in the 15 years of RUclips. My gosh. Man you can really hear Bonnamassa here.
Beautiful Beautiful My First time seeing this video Freddie King is a Bad man ❤❤❤
Love this gig, I just had a craving for a moment, I had this on vhs in the 90's.
Freddie had pancreatitis so much pain but still sang like the king Ril❤ not forgotten
Hard partying lifestyle, and his love of Bloody Marys
Has there ever been as good of a showman as Freddie King? I honestly don’t think so.
He's got some chops!! The Gibson ES through a Fender Bassman sounds amazing!
AMAZING!!!
Blues don't get much sweeter than this great blues Man! Rolling with the King!
Freddie King, and a brew at sundown from the deck. Life is good.
Simply electrifying...........what a talent!
It's old school Blues player like this makes me ito carrie on the History and legacy of the Blues and keep on playing this music Blues Grip Entertainment 🎸
Caught Freddie live on three occasions. Was always so exciting.
The three best bluesmen are BBKing, Freddie King and Albert King, they have been recognized in America.

sonny boy passed in '65, not sure he ever reassessed his view. his duet with Eric Burdon on "nobody but you" is excellent":
Only time I ever had a good memory with the dad was on the piss listening to this man so hey special ❤️👑
Of all the bluesmen, and great guitar playing aside, Freddie K's Voice reigns supreme...he was the "Orbison of the Blues"!
I also love Freddie, and he is no doubt the complete package. However, that said, if I had to vote for Blues guitarists worthy of the moniker the Orbison of the Blues (ergo superlative vocal abilities) I'd lean towards Magic Sam and Otis Rush
Ladies and Gentlemen this is how you play guitar and really it doesn't get much better a true artist brilliant
Damn, this is great. Always love the searing emotion. I get the same feelings with Albert King's Personal Manager. RIP my good fellow.
