*Drifters can spawn in your house during storms too! The easiest way I've found to survive, is to build a 3x3 panic room with a one block wide hallway leading to it, then cover the hallway and room floor with Bed Of Nails. I keep armor, supplies, and the bed of nails in a reed basket in the room. Hoppe this helps!*

I just grab a mod that tells the drifters, "No, sod off, you can spawn outside and try to attack me, but spawning inside is bullshit."

In stuff like Minecraft and Factorio, I'm a dedicated "survival Peaceful" player. I don't like fighting for my life every night. But in Vintage Story, the storms are just infrequent enough to be a fun distraction. Sometimes I hide in my storm bunker, but my favourite thing is still wandering out and just pushing out into the world away from the tide of drifters, and then see where I wound up at the end.

No harm in that! I can sympathize. At the end of the day, games are supposed to be fun.

Here is my take on temporal storms:
Make them easily avoidable, at least for the time being.
Because as they are right now, they can be easily cheesed, and many people do cheese it, but cheesing is never fun, so, if I were the dev, I'd embrace the fact that people cheese it and think of a way to evade the storms without cheesing, at least until a better mechanic is implemented.
Because they are easily cheesed, they become a nuisance, and sleeping through them is not so feasible in multiplayer, so, they should simply not affect people who are in an enclosed space.
Doesn't have to be forever, but how the mechanic is right now, it's just a bother, and turning them off is the way to go, but that's unfortunate, just make em easy to avoid, that still gives 'storm chasers' a good battle if they decide to go out for the gears and flax and jonas parts.

Storms would be really cool if they were 100-200 blocks circles and moved across the map. You would be able to see them, run into them if you want, but also avoid them. And if they pass through your home, it's only a short time before they've moved on.

@@Catalyst8487 I absolutely agree, in fact, one of my 'dream implementations' would be storms being like the 'wild hunt' from Germanic mythology, where giant clouds just roll over the landscape, including with a direction (normal wind always blows from the west, but the storm could come from any major compass direction, this would be told to the player) and then , around every player (the game should be smart enough to group people up into one storm square, to an extent) the thick storm clouds would sweep over the landscape, with the rift warping visual effects and some really spooky music.
And it should be possible to stand in the 'shadow' of the wind, so that the clouds just sweep past you if you want to be safe. That's a lot more processing needed, but it would look cool.
Alternatively, like you said, just some scatterings of danger zone that can be avoided. It IS named storm after all , it should't just be all around. I mean a real storm does feel like its all around you, but that's cause you're in a storm zone lol.
Anyway, the current system has done more damage to my regard of it than if it had been easily avoided by just being inside an enclosed room. Heck, for even more restriction, at least one block inside would have to be marked with cave drawing symbols from the inside with charcoal or something, and then add some 'storm runes' to the set of drawable symbols.
      Wouldn't that be flavorful?
Anyway, the damage to my opinion/regard to it.
I find it very much a nuisance, I always build a road to the next major body of water to row around it until its over (unless I feel like I can fight)
And when it pops up, I now see it like a puppet theatre/kasperletheater.
Boioioioing, here pop up the big wheels from the ground, and they spin now, and there walks the giraffe in a circle, boogy boogy boooooo booo spoooky, and then everything goes back into the ground, the theater is being retracted and you can play normally again.
I mean, it's eerie the first time, and I appreciate that, but...as it is, right now, it's just not that much fun and popping up the rust world like that forcefully every couple of days just makes it feel like a cheap theme park ride.
Anyway, I dunno if devs read this...I know we are living in a time where sycophancy is so rampant that it almost feels like the norm, but it's as damaging and detrimental as in ancient history, where actually well meaning people, who happen to have reason for critique, are displaced/disgusted and leave/get ejected by the 'leaders' for that.
But negtive feedback is important, it's not always hate, etc. One should always acknowledge negative criticism. Now, that is different to accepting fixes from the critic...
What I propose is just my own wish, I don't know if the entire playerbase would like it, so...that's one thing anyone who is being criticised has for themselves, the ability to reject the proposed FIXES...but the root of the matter should not be dismissed just for being negative.
I really love this game but the temporal storm is ...in so many ways, immersion breaking. It's not a storm, it doens't blow from anywhere, it's not temporal, it's just a theater popping up that hassles you with distorted grunts and """spooky""" ambience that you then hve to row on a lake for 10 minutes for...
Nyehhh. Is making rowing on oceans impossible the fix? I dunno, "how to survive temporal storms" also has 'panic rooms" and AI exploiting traps.
      It's not so good...

especially since in normal settings, if you play in one world for long enough you can start getting a temporal storm every 45 minutes or less, which is just a hassle. it'd be pretty neat if, to lean into the temporal angle, your seraph could 'see' ruins as they once were, or stumble into rot beasts and vast rot-infested wastelands that slow you down and give you some negative effects, or even the world at the precipice of its steampunk future... before everything came crashing down. maybe chunks from the resonance archives suddenly appear on the surface during storms since pieces of the archives seem to have been torn asunder and shattered across space-time.

Could be late BUT... If a temporal storm is about to happen and you're out there travelling, stack at least 3 blocks high to make a 3x3 - 5x5 platform and dig 2 blocks down below within the space you made. Make sure that you don't make walls so you can take aggro of the drifters. When you take aggro, they should fall into the 2 blocks high you made below. From there, just wait for it to "Temporal Storm is waning" then kill the drifters. They shouldn't be too lethal since all they can do is throw stones and even with that, they will miss most of the time because they are not too accurate + the blocks blocking them. This is what we did when me and my friend was caught out in the wild. 5 mins is plenty to make this. Just be careful not to fall, just hold shift and pray for dear life. Also, they can kill each other while they're in the trap so less work for you.

These kinda remind me of highstorms from Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive. Maybe rebalancing them to be more of an environmental hazard would work.

@the_origame Dave is the strange mechanical giraffe like creature that appears in the distance durring temporal storms. Slowly wandering off the map. Though i believe you can only see him if your render distance is above 400. So you have to turn it up from the default to actually see him at all. The community has dubbed him Dave.
