    Cute speech, but she didn't tell us what works to stop our period completely. I want my period GONE until I get healed of uterine fibroids. I was put on a birth control to stop my period, but I'm bleeding even more on it. They're calling it "breakthrough bleeding". Whatever you label it, I want it to stop right now!

      Ugh break through sucks. I dealt with that a lot when I was on the pill or the patch. I decided to use the implant which has worked wonderfully. It’s sadly trial and error to find the right method for your body.

    I’m sorry, women in the Dogon tribe have 8-9 children but only 7 periods per year, meaning their physiologically reduced need for periods is because they’re always pregnant! And if Dr. Yen is saying that their lack of periods is nutrition related, you might as well just suggest that Americans eat better rather than take synthetic hormones to treat the symptoms, not the causes.

    I like the idea but I don’t think it’s for everybody.
    I’m not only talking about women who want to get pregnant but summer first don’t have bothersome periods. Myself for example.
    I menstruate three days each month. I have two heavier days and one light day and it’s done.
    Of course the stomach might feel upset sometimes but I definitely don’t get cramps or anything like that.
    I also think it’s important for women to know when they ovulate and when you’re taking synthetic hormones, it’s not a possibility to know that.
    I can totally understand why optional periods might be an option for women in the military, women with severe disabilities, Women who are unable to perform at work or school due to absenteeism, or perhaps mothers who are done having children.
    I think that women should learn to appreciate their natural cycles.
    I think that women should also be able to appreciate pregnancy and nursing as well.
    I forgot about another group. There is a small group of women who don’t want to get married or have children and maybe that might be an option to be on continuous birth control.
    The issue I have with this talk, although I like the speaker, is that optional. Should not be for everybody.
    It should be a case by case basis for people who really need such a thing for their healthcare.
    For instance if a teenager has the mental capacity of a five-year-old, I can totally understand why taking care of periods could be a burden to them as well as their families because it is a huge responsibility.
    Another thing to factor in is that our sewer systems are not designed to filter out synthetic hormones and too many of those can damage wildlife and get into waterways. Those are my thoughts. I still enjoyed the Ted talk although I didn’t necessarily agree with the speaker on all the points.

    This is horrible. For centuries we have taught woman that menstruation is shameful, something to be kept a secret, to only whisper. Around of the world woman are feeling cursed because they menstruate. They are being subject to social restrictions that are humiliating. And here you are telling them that it is in fact something you should get rid of and that the world would indeed be better if women didn't menstruate. I don't agree. Menstruation should be celebrated for the unique natural phenomena that it is. Investigation shouldn’t be about how to get rid of periods, it should be about actually developing better ways to manage menstrual pain or menstrual hygiene. How to make everyone around more aware, men and women, how to make education institution more period positive, so that girls don't have to miss school. These should be the questions we raise.

    • @swiftpath11
      @swiftpath11 2 года назад +25

      Late but I disagree. Some periods are more manageable than others. Others are downright awful and the only option is birth control. It’s up to each individual to decide what’s best for themselves and what will work for their needs.

    • @Iuliaes
      @Iuliaes 2 года назад +22

      I don't think it is about being ashamed of periods. it is about the fact that a female mammal is supposed to either be lactating or be pregnant so having so many periods can lead to a higher probability of ovarian cancer. And the fact that if we don't want to have a baby now, it's pointless to have this up and down of hormones every month.

      No one celebrates the fact that they have to poop or pee... A woman or any person with a uterus doesn't need to celebrate that they are discarding a sheet of cells that wasn't used from the body. Don't try to brainwash women and people with uteruses to fit your breeding agendas, respect their individuality in profession and the role they want to play in society other than breeding & bleeding. You must be a religious bigot.

    • @CreativeEye22
      @CreativeEye22 Год назад +6

      When did she say it's something to be ashamed of? She's saying there should be options for those who don't want to go through this physical discomfort every month. Both are not the same. And I know for a fact that there are women who feel this way, coz I do.

    This person is doing a big disservice to women. Not only this talk has false evidence (taking synthetic hormones does not prevent diabetes, quite the opposite) as it's encouraging women to see the menstrual cycle as a curse and shut it down with synthetic hormones.

    • @PandiaHealth
      @PandiaHealth 4 года назад +44

      Dr. Yen is not saying that having fewer bleeds prevents diabetes. She said that having a stable hormonal level makes it easier to manage diabetes.
      Also, the natural state is fewer periods and we have the technology to do that, resulting in fewer cases of ovarian/endometrial/colorectal cancer, anemia, and less landfill.
