A Return to Pismo Beach - many clams seen - none detected 🤪

  • 4 months ago, at Pismo Beach, I dug an unexpected amount of costume jewelry in the area surrounding the pier.
This time there was an event on the pier with non-stop announcers on big speakers. They were still loud a mile away. To keep them (mostly) out of my RUclips audio, I had to detect in the opposite direction.
Again, I hoped that Pismo Karen (or Ken) would confront me for unlicensed "clam detecting," for a viral video. 🤪 But no such luck. There were 2 false alarm "gold" finds. Otherwise, detecting was average. And as always, it was great to walk the beach and breathe fresh air.
I'm a recreational detectorist, not a treasure hunter. After 40 uninterrupted years of working (retired 12/31/22), I beach metal detect for exercise, to enjoy fresh ocean air, and to eat a monstrously unhealthy but delicious meal afterward to counteract the benefits of exercising. (see my "community" tab for pics) The possibility of finding something interesting and/or valuable in each scoop, keeps me going.
In my low-key, basic videos I'll endeavor to show my finds, in-frame, in focus, well lit, with tones included. I'll usually call out the VDI numbers & my guess what the target might be. I'll also add scenic shots so viewers can follow my progress on the beach. And there will be an organized wrap-up of finds at the end.
    Detector: Minelab Manticore
    Pinpointer: Garrett Pro-Pointer AT (carrot)
Scoop: CKG 6x9 with carbon fiber pole
Cameras: GoPro Hero 12 Black (x2)
Editor: Microsoft Clipchamp (free version - I'm cheap!)

Thank you! Those saved the day from becoming a totally, "realistic hunt." Next stop, Avila Beach!

Cool finds, that’s a good day detecting in my eyes. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! My original plan was to hunt for jewelry again near the pier. But detecting a mile+ away turned out OK for coins + odds & ends. 😀

Great video, I'm in the same boat, retired and metal detect for fun. I like golfing and jeeping too much to do it full time lol

Thanks. I did geocaching/rock-hounding in the desert & lots of hiking. A flat beach is about all I can handle now. 'Youth is wasted on the young.' 🤪🤪

No recent storm. Wet area 'sanded-in' here. Few/no targets but lots of clams - which I don't have a license to dig. My next video (Sat Feb 1, 8am Pacific) at a different beach is mostly waterline detecting. 😀
