Hated this game. So hard, it wasn’t even fun. Couldn’t beat the 1st level as a kid and didn’t feel so bad when I saw older kids who couldn’t do it either. Always believed that if you could beat it the first go around that you had way too much time on your hands.
In 2011 I was deployed in Bagram AB Afghanistan and there happened to be this arcade game over there. During my down time I played it and made it all the way to the pair of Satans...just couldn't defeat them. Your elusiveness is very impressive.
Probably one of the most difficult games to play, it took a lot of hand and eye coordination. Arcade owners probably loved this game because it made the most money.

In an arcade I used to go to as a kid at weekends I once heard a very loud kerfuffle and the sound of someone kicking and punching an arcade cabinet violently. Turned out it was the Ghosts n' Goblins machine. I guess he got to the end and realised he had to replay it. Can't say I blame him, when I completed Ghouls n' Ghosts and they pulled the same trick I just walked away in disgust with a few credits left. Still, great game.
Man Beadle I understand that Ghosts 'n Goblins is cheap, but Ghouls 'n Ghosts is a great game and quite beatable with one credit and enough practice, it's a pretty fair game overall.

Souls are easy compared to this game, image souls but with a timer.. you would have 5 minutes to get to and kill the boss of each level. That is what made this game so hard was the timer and sometimes the mobs would sit on top of a ladder so you burned too much time waiting for them to patrol away from it.
Man, I never got to the cave. I remember getting to the door a couple of times, but I never got passed the two ogres. Man, I can just imagine how I would have felt back in the day had I got to the end and then discovered that I had to go through a second time. Regardless, thanks for sharing this!

Time it well, one axe could chop off half the dragon tail, the second axe will leave that silly head floating in the air. Really cool.

Oh my gosh, Capcom was so lazy they didn't bother correcting the typos for the NES version... And it's bad enough that you're showing off getting through the game in one longplay, dude...but with the Torch? Now you're just rubbing our faces in it. :P

What did they do that was incredible? Get through it in one try by luck? This isn't a clean playthrough of this game. Watch a real pro with real skill blast through this game and you'll come back and watch this and laugh at it.

I appreciate you ran through the game twice to get the real ending. This game is by far the hardest game I've ever played. Too much for Arthur rescuing the princess already in his undies expecting to get some, just for that very same princess putting back his armor with a chastity belt attached. O_o P.S. Gotta love those flying burritos! :D
You can learn strategies for the most difficult parts even in this game, and if you practice them multiple times you will eventually get the hang of it good enough to at least be able to finish it in one attempt.

I also concluded this game many times, it is not so difficult, but nobody has noticed the most important thing, the real feat is that it finished the game in 21 minutes, congratulations !!!

is to avoid Religious problems.. with the game, originally the japanese version, use the Holy Cross where Christ was CRUCIFIED ,, but once the game reach U.S.A it was changed to a shield.. .a shield of the 3rd Cruzade... also in super ghouls n ghost for SNES , the coffins have a cross on thems..on the Japanese version Makai Mura ..and an ANKH on the other versions..
Actualy, it was a cross, not a shield with a cross on it. In the version that was imported to Argentina (where I live) it was a cross. I was a child back then and I didn't speak english yet, so I don't remember if it was japanese or english (it was just a language I didn't understand :D)

Once I installed this one on my cabinet, though, it stayed there and I keep coming back to it. Gradually I am getting used to playing it better and better, but it still feels like almost impossible to finish!

When I finally beat level 5 today after a million tries, the game informed me that I couldn't proceed since the shield was not equipped as my weapon; not only does that make no sense, but the game never hinted that I needed it in any way, shape or form. So instead of getting the key for going through the ogre gauntlet, surviving the ungodly amount of red demons, and beating the two guards at the end, I got sent back to level 4 instead. **** you, Capcom.

+Stephan Rogers That was typical of a *lot* of games from that period. They couldn't let you play forever on one quarter, but if it was too short and/or too easy, people would stop playing it. Also, most of those machines had a limited amount of memory... both RAM and ROM was *expensive* back then. So most games were either insanely hard (Ghouls & Ghosts), designed not to be beaten (Missile Command), or it looped. I don't know how much RAM the game had, but IIRC it had about 384 *kilobytes* of ROM, most of which was graphics and level data. Ghosts & Goblins only loops once, by the way. Once you complete it the second time, you "win".

I must share a brag story. When I was 13 (many moons ago) I had beaten GnG (NES) after 1 WHOLE YEAR OF AGONY PAIN AND SUFFERING. I cannot tell you the JOY AND ELATION I felt. It was like passing another year of school in video game form. I'm pretty sure I could barely get past stage 3 nowadays, lol. Such great times with Arthur, Satan & co!
I've seen real players go through this game legitimately with much better skill than this, and we don't know how many savestates, rewinds and slowdowns were used here. This amateur crap is laughable and is nowhere near the best longplay of this game.

I don't know how much RAM the game had, but IIRC it had about 384 *kilobytes* of ROM, most of which was graphics and level data. Ghosts & Goblins only loops once, by the way. Once you complete it the second time, you "win".

I must share a brag story. When I was 13 (many moons ago) I had beaten GnG (NES) after 1 WHOLE YEAR OF AGONY PAIN AND SUFFERING. I cannot tell you the JOY AND ELATION I felt. It was like passing another year of school in video game form. I'm pretty sure I could barely get past stage 3 nowadays, lol. Such great times with Arthur, Satan & co!

I've seen real players go through this game legitimately with much better skill than this, and we don't know how many savestates, rewinds and slowdowns were used here. This amateur crap is laughable and is nowhere near the best longplay of this game.
