Your video is extremely helpful. I own three hedge trimmers and they all could use a sharpening. You've given me the confidence to get to it. Thanks very much.
After watching you for about a month you have inspire me to get back into the lawn maintenance business I left many’s years ago. Look out High Ridge Handyman & Lawn maintenance coming soon👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’ve been watching your videos religiously for the past week and MAN you are teaching, inspiring and saving me money!!!! I was literally about to take my hedge trimmer to a shop to be sharpened, welp not anymore I just ordered everything you just used! Once again thanks bro💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Buy two files one really fine one coarse the fine one for the hedge trimmer blades, the coarse one for mower blades and all the silly blades that fit the weed eater.
Took my older trimmer in to be sharpened took a month for them to tell me they would have to take the whole thing apart in order to sharpen the blades because they would have to be cleaned with a Dremel and should me how and why it would be difficult with the electric... ( True Value) hedger It would be about 45-60 dollars and I should invest in a new one. I said "I like this one because it actually locks on making it easier for me to move around and easier on my hands". I also said well have a Dremel so I guess I'll do it myself. YOUR VIDEO WAS REALLY HELPFUL! I LIKE THE SOFT MUSIC IN THE BACK AND GET RIGHT INTO IT STYLE. I followed you for more helpful ideas THANK YOU ! I purchased a small cordless rotary tool one like you suggested though because, well it just made sense keep up the good work!@
I have a Craftsman trimmer for over 40 years. Only use it a couple times a year. I oil the blades regularly as I trim. Not once have I ever shaped or cleaned them. They work great.
You need to check the cuts on the shrubs. If the canes are tearing and browning a week after the cut then your blade is dull and needs sharpening. Oiling has nothing to do with sharpening, it keeps the blades moving with less friction.
Thanks for that I’ve been using my large grinder for my large blades an machetes I need that tool because I have a lot of palm trees at my home plus hedges. Thanks again
Thanks for the tips. Just bought a stihl hedge trimmer and want to keep it in top shape for a long time. I couldn't find the stihl cleaner, but was able to find Fluid Film for $10. Cheaper than Stihl cleaner and also intended for use on hedge trimmers.
Excellent tutorial vid, man! Glad you showed a product that can be used to keep it clean as I've been wondering about the maintenance for a hedge trimmer.
I hear a lot of guys use Fluid Film to lubricate and protect the blades once the blades are sharpened. It also prevents against rust and keeps the blades moving like butter, curious to know your thoughts regarding that? Enjoyed the video.
Great video I’ve been sending mine out to get sharpened. This seems like a real money saver. I do wish you gave us better close up view. It was a very informative video. Once again thank you
Keith had a video mentioning some electric battery powered method for being able to sharpen your trimmers in the field. I found yours first and I am so greatful for you sharing this. Thanks so much also I didn’t know you were in Georgia for some reason I thought Florida like Jonathan. Anyway this was a super fun video to watch and a change of pace.
Your welcome. I’m getting too old for this business. Summers are short…. but the days are long. And the winters are long… but the work (snow removal) is hit and miss at best.
LOVE THE HEDGE TRIMMER SHARPING VIDEO AND IVE LERANED ALOT WHATING YOUR VIDEOS TO HELP ME IN MY LAWNCARE BUSINESS, THANKS AND KEEP THE VIDEO COMING ALSO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE,SIR
Good advice here. I use my Dremel with those stones for sharpening my chainsaw blades (there is a thinner stone also) and hedge trimmers. Thanks for posting. Great audio also by the way.
I was looking for something related to sharpening hedge trimmer blades. Hi, I'm Neill and I'm "noth" of you in upstate South Carolina. Worked for awhile in Savannah back in my working days (I'm retired and LOVE IT). I couldn't believe you have the exact Dremel Lite that I bought from HD a few weeks ago. I bought a Dremel Chain Saw Sharpening Attachment Kit from Amazon. It shows how to use one of the attachments for sharpening a Chain Saw in the Owners Manual, but nothing on how to use the kit for sharpening Hedge Trimmer Blades. I called Dremel and they said to look it up on the Internet. BLAH! Can you help? I used your method, but not sure I'm doing it at the right "angle". Hence, why I bought the Kit. I have RYOBI battery operated hedge trimmers.😎
I take them off machine and use Simple Green to clean them first. Then I use a small air driven belt sander to sharpen, reasemble and lubricate. That way I get the resins out that builds up in between the blades.
I normally have a couple of days throughout the year where I get a few beers and sharpen and clean everything, quality tools dull very slowly no matter what abuse you put them through. I use nothing but Husqvarna and Stihl! A clean every now and then is all that is necessary! Winter gives you ample time to strip them down for deep maintenance and make them ready for the year to come!
Does it matter which grinding stone you use on the blades? I used the 952 3/8" grinding stone and it got gunked up very quickly from all the resin and grime on my old blades.
That's how I do mine although I only sharpen them once a year. I have 2 hedge trimmer that I use a few hours a week. I don't notice much of a difference after sharpening.
l only trim my hedge about 70 meters once a year (spring mostly) and l sharp my blades about once in two years, l dont own a mowing service like you but this was helpful
dull blades pretty much rip apart your grass. it has to be a clean cut and it mulches more successfully resulting in better decomposition for the grass. including with leaves
Good video. But why do you wipe the oil off after spraying it on? (Not that I disagree, just I would like to know why as I am a novice). Is it to get any metal particles off? Or some other reasons.
So you only do the backside of the top blade? Im about to sharpen tomorrow but i dont know whether to do just the top or just the top backside etc, thanks in advance!

How about using a brush with brass / stainless bristles to clean the blades .
Nice! 👍

That collar below the locking nut is a wrench, loosen that collar and you can tighten the locking nut a little extra. I have that exact Dremel.
Thanks. Also, what workbench product are you using. I love that you can attach a vice to it.

I ain’t got a dremel. Does that long metal Rod work that my mom uses on her knifes?
Can you use a drill and attach the bit instead of buying the device?
Great video, We use Fluid Film to lubricate and clean the blades.
Great tip, 👍
Thank you 😊
Just buy those attachments for your drill! Tbh the dremel is more comfortable for me. Thanks Johhny!

You can use a rotor zip and the attachment

how do you get the blades to be together? Remove them and put them back together?

the reason to sharpen the blades every 12 hours of usage or daily is so the grass wont die in the long run
dull blades pretty much rip apart your grass. it has to be a clean cut and it mulches more successfully resulting in better decomposition for the grass. including with leaves
Where did you buy your gloves. They look nice
Look in this video description
Do you sharpen both sides of the blade, top and bottom? I noticed my trimmer has slanted edges on both sides.
