Hi. Thanks for this tutorial. I rebuilt my website recently and had 28 broken links found in the google search console. I have made a custom 404 page to which the broken links would be redirected. Am I doing it the right way? Is it possible to delete the broken links from the google search console permanently? Thanks.
You can redirect those to a 404 page or if you have a similar replacement article you could point the links to there. It is a bit of personal preference for which is best.
@@wpbeginner Much thanks for your response. I am clear now. One more question, how long does it take to be indexed on the google search console when the sitemap is submitted? Could you please advise?
Hello I can through Semrush see that i have 42 broken links (404 error), but Link Checker says theres no broken links. Lastly GSC tells me there's a couple of broken links but these broken links are not the same as the ones showing in Semrush. Could this be due to a crawling error?
so how can i fix broken links (because i changed the name of the links) that All in One SEO THINKS im still using, but says are "broken" WITHOUT a damn plugin?
It sounds like you mean you changed your permalinks, which if you did then your links would be broken because Google likely crawled your old links. If you only changed the URL of specific posts then you would want to take a look at our guide below: www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/beginners-guide-to-creating-redirects-in-wordpress/#Creating-301-Redirects-Manually-Using-htaccess If you changed your permalinks, it would heavily depend on what your permalinks were and what they've been changed to. For a starting point you may want to take a look at the article below: www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/wordpress/wordpress-redirects-permalinks/ If you're only worried about the number of plugins on your site then we would recommend taking a look at our article below: www.wpbeginner.com/opinion/how-many-wordpress-plugins-should-you-install-on-your-site/
Helpful, but i have a problem with external broken links on my blog Website, i removed the broken link but when i check with the ahrefs tool it still shows a Broken link on website?
Hi, when i enter to my Home page is ok, but if i try to enter again it changes the url (add another thing) and send me to a page that doesn't exist. Can you help me, please?
Hello, In wordpress I set my permalink structure as "post name" , but still in Google's SERP it only shows my category in url not the post name for every blog post I write It looks like this example.com> blogging, like this it shows category of post instead of showing post name in url How to fix this?
Thanks for sharing this info. I have a strange scenario. All internal page links load the home page. The url indicates the page we want..(ie.. www.website.com/page1 or /page 2...all loads up home page info even though URL is different). Any idea why?
You may want to try going under settings permalinks and resaving your permalinks as one possible reason, otherwise we would recommend going through the standard troubleshooting steps we cover in our article below: www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/beginners-guide-to-troubleshooting-wordpress-errors-step-by-step/
The Redirection plugin worked, thanks 🙂
Glad it helped!

Possibly, we would recommend manually putting those URLs into your address bar and if it does show a 404 error to fix it then.

i have link that is working if you search, but the ahref and other link checker are showing it as broken. what should I do?
You may want to check the URL in an incognito window as well as clear your caching as the most common methods to check for the issue.
Helpful, but i have a problem with external broken links on my blog Website, i removed the broken link but when i check with the ahrefs tool it still shows a Broken link on website?
Until both your site's cache clears as well as any caching on ahrefs it would see that broken link.
I have broken links that it is not showing and it won't let me do a broken link checker
search. What's the deal? Do I have to wait 72 hours.
It would depend on if there is an error message for the check that explains why you are not allowed to check for broken links.
Thank you. Very helpful as everytime I log out of my WordPress dashboard I get an error 404 page, instead of the login page.
For that 404 error you may want to take a look at our guide here: www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-wordpress-posts-returning-404-error/ :)
Hi, when i enter to my Home page is ok, but if i try to enter again it changes the url (add another thing) and send me to a page that doesn't exist. Can you help me, please?
It would depend on if you have any plugins that create redirects. Otherwise, you may want to scan your computer for a virus.
@@wpbeginner thanks, i'll try with the plugins
My rest API faild . So how to fix it
It would depend on how it failed and if you see an error message. You may want to check to ensure you do not have a plugin that disables the REST API.

If it was a recent change you would want to request google recrawl your site as well as resubmit your sitemap for forcing it to update sooner.
@@wpbeginner I use yoast sitemap feature, how can I resubmit sitemap
