  • When European colonists first landed in North America, they were anticipating the discovery of all manner of new animals of all shapes and sizes. What they weren’t expecting, however, was tales of a mythic bird, dozens of times bigger than anything they had seen before, with the power create storms and even shoot lightning from it’s eyes like the most powerful of Greek gods. They were fascinated and terrified by the indigenous people’s stories of the Thunderbird. But what if the Thunderbird isn’t just a spiritual belief or oral tradition, and rather a real living fossil roaming the mountain ranges of America? Time for Kit and Rory to investigate!

    So this episode is either going to see the birth of a new superhero or the start of the next pandemic.

      Yeah I was wondering how the monster outbreak so often seen in movies would happen but the fact that it comes from a paranormal podcaster bitten on the neck by a bat is too perfect

    Rory is usually the one saying incomprehensibly stupid shit, but I have to give him credit, Griggles you're wrong. Birds are dinosaurs, not decendants, they are dinosaurs. Cladistics is a stupid science run by the rule of who named shit first but genetically speaking the group of animals in Aves which are all birds should technically be reclassifed as theropoda. And because of this its also incorrect to say the meteor killed the dinosaurs. Now the correct terminology is it killed the non-avian dinosaurs. Because birds are absolutely dinosaurs

    Rory’s right, birds are dinosaurs, directly and through evolution. During the death of the dinosaurs, all dinosaur types died except for the avian dinosaurs. Dont stop telling the truth Rory. See you guys at the Afterparty.

    Eagles, Cranes, Ospreys, and Hawks can all be huge birds. With that said, I would almost say if a thunderbird did exist it is now extinct and was long extinct before the Europeans came to North America. Perhaps through oral tradition the thunderbird was once a large native bird that through the oral tradition became a mythic creature. Similar to how folk heroes are developed in some cultures. That is "IF" it existed to begin with or just myth and part of their culture/religion. It could be a case of Europeans just trying to co-op the myth into a cryptid like Skinwalkers etc.

      @@fatenabu1 well people around the world found bones of different (extinct) animals and came to the conclusion that dragons, unicorns, cyclops, etc existed.
      Many myths and legends are based on simple misunderstandings.

      @@nightmareofthelake 100% this :) Such as a cyclops being an elephant and some dinosaur skulls being the sources of things like the gryphons etc. There is a whole "Our Fake History" about stuff like that. How in some ways mythical animals being really an early form of paleontology in a lot of ways. Making sense of bones and fossils and figuring out what they are etc.

    Birds a fucking weird. I was on my balcony and I wasn't wearing my my glasses. I saw a bird and I was sure that it was a duck but after putting my glasses on and looking closely I realized that it was in fact just a giant pigeon. If a pigeon can get this big, god know how big other birds can get.

    as this commune's very own resident bat expert, how DAAAAAAAAAAAARE you insult bats and their beautiful wings rory. their wings have almost the same skeletal structure as human hands do, that's why they're called chiroptera, which means hand-wing. how would you feel if i called your hand GROSS??
    yeah. i bet you feel like a real bully now. a bully with gross human hands.

    • @jenk4545
      @jenk4545 10 часов назад

      Luckily, less than half of 1% of all bats worldwide carry rabies, and bat-borne rabies in Malaysia is very rare. It seems the last human infection was in 1998, although rabies is on the rise in dogs there. So, good news, Rory almost certainly doesn't have rabies. Bad news, he might have Ebola. 😂
