My grandmother is always downloading files like this and every time she does, the laptop fan speeds up and the computer overheats, she’s had three laptops this year already, she ruins the motherboards just by clicking on links that are obviously sketchy to me
Yeah, I accidentally installed a fake version of chromium once years ago through an "optional software" thing, and it just REFUSED to get off of my laptop. It wasn't really malicious, didn't harm my computer or steal any info, but damn was it annoying to remove. Had to go manually remove it from the hidden files and all.
I remember once finding this fake setup that would install this program that made the colours of the display change often to like hot pink. While doing this it would open the web browser and go to a bunch of random Spanish videos. I don't remember if it did anything else outside of making the resolution be stuck at 800x600. It was cleaned off fairly easily ignoring the resolution issue. The program was inside of a rar inside of another rar file which was password protected. I sort of wish I could find this program again for you to test. I remember it claimed to be a full cracked version of some program that converted PowerPoint slides to an EXE.
