"There are no words to be spoken, just a look to say goodbye." That line gets to me every time! Not sure about the back story of this song. I figure it is one about the poor "Micks" (forgive my political incorrectness, but it is relevant to an integral part of the thinking during the time period) that found themselves as unwilling participants in part of the Civil War (North and/or South). They came to America looking for something better than they had and ended up wishing they were back on their emerald isle. Rest in peace, my Irish brothers.

To echo most other comments, and being an Irishman, from the North of the island, this blew me away. My uncles ashes are coming home from San Francisco in a months time, so, Ireland I'm coming home is the perfect tribute to him. This is the version of the song I'll be playing when we get him back to rest in his homeland. Well done Chad and thank you

So it is almost impossible to find Garth Brooks's rendition of Ireland on RUclips. I did it one time a few years back, and haven't been able to find it since. I love the song, but I don't have it on CD anymore. So I was in the mood to hear it, and I have been searching for probably an hour trying to find one that did it justice without success, and then I found your rendition........ Absolutely blew me away how good this was!!! you really made my day, and I sincerely appreciate it!!!
