Took a family on vacation Year before last in Sept. to Ireland. We bought tickets the year before on Thanksgiving day to see him there. Fortune would have it that I had done lots of work for an Irishfamily here in the states and they surprised us with yet more tickets to see him that same week in Ireland. We saw his first and last concert there over our 10 days. The absolute best vacation Ive ever had in my 61 years and my family now has it as a core memory for life. Garth was simply amazing and the Irish people love him as their own. The Irish people are the actual jewel of the country. Thank you Thank you Thank you. If you've never been there go book a trip right now.

Garth Brooks doesn't seem to like his songs being anywhere that he doesn't officially allow, as he thinks the entire album is important because often there are songs that weren't released as singles that touch people more, like this or Face to Face. He chose Amazon Music for all his music as far as streaming is concerned, so it's the best place to get all of his songs if you want them digitally. Very hard to get his music through videos even on RUclips as he or his team seem to actively get uploads of his songs removed. Not a move I'm a fan of, but it's his music so he has the right to choose.
Oh my gosh this is LITERALLY one of my favorite songs on earth and it is NOWHERE else on the internet. You have to have had the CD when it came out or seen it on like Napster. BLESS YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS.
The main reason I know of this song is because I have Sirius XM, and they play it on the Prime Country channel. I'm glad I got Sirius XM, because it helped me rediscover the music I grew up on

I figure it is one about the poor "Micks" (forgive my political incorrectness, but it is relevant to an integral part of the thinking during the time period) that found themselves as unwilling participants in part of the Civil War (North and/or South). They came to America looking for something better than they had and ended up wishing they were back on their emerald isle. Rest in peace, my ancestral Irish brothers.

Reminds me of my Irish Pop-Pop and Grammy both born in Gort, County Galway! I've never heard this song before but I'm sure it would have meant a great deal to both of them. Miss their hearts and love and especially their beautiful Irish brogue. 💚💚

I believe it’s loosely inspired by the charge of the light brigade during the Crimean War, there were Irish soldiers in that battle. A battle that has inspired poetry movies and another great song by iron maiden called “the trooper” However many things that were true in that battle are true in many others, and it’s only loosely inspired by it.
A bit of Irish love and sad history woven together. Many an Irishman has died in another man's war.
