I also thought that the Genie was funny, but they really only wrote it for a black man to break the 4th wall. (Donkey in Shrek/Chris Tucker in Rush Hour, etc) I was a little bummed that the magic carpet didn't leave the stage, Especailly after seeing Mary Poppins, or Aladdin when it was at Disneyland and the carpet flew all around the theatre.
I agree Aladdin is more dynamic. Lion King is great... for the first 35 minutes, but then it uses the same schtick for the rest of the show. I LOVE the Lion King music but I get bored with the visuals
Totally agree about Lion King! Seen it twice to be sure but it is quite dull in parts. I enjoyed Beauty and the Beast more than Lion King. Seeing Aladdin soon, looking forward to it! Good review.
Then why did Lion King win 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical?? Also, nothing in the Lion King is dated. No other production has that type of amazing portrayal of animals. Also, the creative work of Lion King is basically all Julie Taymor, you should look it up! So you cannot lumpy it in with any other Disney production. Aladdin will never be on broadway for 25 years and consistently selling out like the Lion King. Your analysis is kind of strange! But I guess we all have our own opinions.
