This is an incredible story! It’s great to know there are alternative ways to travel and circumvent airline restrictions. Living on an island, I’d want all options in my Rolodex! ❤️
Thank god you ! I was struggling and almost changing plan to move to madeira :D and I was getting to be satisfied with canary islands. But then I just somehow find you. We have also french bulldog and we face same probles as you faced before, but thank god there is this cargo ship :D.
I am so pleased! Let me know if you need any help or info with contacting the right company and I’d be happy to share. Hopefully see you and your Frenchie in Madeira!
Thank you for posting this option. I need to book passage in June 2024 from Lisbon to Madeira. May I take you up on your offer to share details on booking a cabin? We are flying our 12 year old Chow from Toronto to Lisbon on a group chartered jet and now need to get her from Lisbon to her new home!
The company i used was GSlines (you can contact them on carolinanunes@gruposousa.pt) they initially informed me that Philippe would need to remain in his crate while on the ship and could only come out once in our bedroom. However, the reality was that we did not use the crate once as the crew were all dog friendly and accommodating! You still need to bring the crate though as it's part of their procedure etc. Hope this helps!
Hi Rorster, The first day was a little rough as he was extremely hesitant to pee. However, he eventually found a spot he liked on the lower deck and peed/pooped by the bins :) My advice: - The workers on the ship were really dog friendly so he was able to roam around freely. However, I did have to put him on a leash when we were in the dining area. - This links into the first point but you will be required to bring a crate for the dogs as part of protocol, but in my experience Philippe did not end up using his at all. - You may need to bring some anti-nausea medication to try and prevent sea sickness ( I found this VERY helpful) on the second night. - Bring binoculars in case you come across some whales and bring a toy for the pups, as they will get bored :)
this is also a great option when you want to move some of your own stuff to madeira you can watch your cargo all the time and it would be totally different experience then traveling by airplane
@@Livinginmadeira I am planning to move to madeira next year and I have a French bulldog too:( unfortunately the airlines told me they can’t take him;(
What a handsome doggo! Thank you for sharing your experience🐕🦺
Thank you - I'll tell him :)

Hello, I am thinking to move to madeira with my French bulldog and my Shihtzu, could you give me more information? Thank you
Wow, travel on a cargo ship! I didn't know that was a thing. Did you have to bring all your own food/drink for the journey?
Nope! you get fed 3 meals a day and eat with the captain and crew :) I would suggest bringing some cards however!

You could take your dog in a plane, from Lisbon to Madeira, cargo ship is the first time I see
Hey Luis, unfortunately I was informed that he could not fly due to being a Brachycephalic dog breed
