I love that black-and-white image of the umbrella man with the Elizabeth Tower in the background! I live in Atlanta but I am so familiar with Southbank that I have to say I like the reverse image! Good show! I’m always happy to see you and Roman together! Sean
I use the same Peak Designs system and i got their wrist strap for my X100V and X-Pro3, its a great piece of kit. Highly recommended. As a Londoner now living in Canada, I do miss my old city. Great Video. The black and white reflection pics were the bomb
The picture of the two guys walking was my favorite. The one where there's a guy in the back and a guy in the front. The one with the person with the umbrella was my next favorite. But I prefer the original than the flipped version. It seems that a lot of street photographers like Fuji cameras and lenses. I have a z6 II. It's smaller than the older DSLR bodies. It's not bad to carry around with a small prime lens. I bought the 40mm f/2 around Thanksgiving. I Ann really impressed with that lens and how sharp it is. I haven't done a lot of street photography so it's new to me. You don't see photographers walking around in the cities near where I live. If you see someone with a camera they are usually doing portraits for someone.
Hey Gareth, good to see you out and about again. We take things a bit for granted here in Australia, your video showed the harsh reality of a city still affected by COVID. An empty London would have been pretty weird, like a scene from one of those movies!
Love the images, all of them. 😍😊 I also like doing streetphotography/cityphotography in rainy conditions. But I rather wait til the rain stops 😆...just love all the reflections. And that mixed with going out late when it's dark is just....👌
Gareth, this is a great video, thank you. Loved the "giant legs" and "man walking" at 15.01 - looks better flipped. I worked in London through the 1970's - never seen it that empty! I'm retired and too ancient to bend down or carry heavy gear, now deciding between X100V, X-E4 or Q2 as a take-anywhere camera. You've sold me on the X100V. With the screen flipped it'd be like shooting with your Rollei. THANK YOU.
Great video Gareth, so many exceptional shots, you really are the Street Photography Man.. Terrific vision and wit.... The "Giant" image I feel a B&W would bring the two men even closer and enhance the illusion... Well done mate, top drawer....
Really liked this one! Wish I went out in the rain ;) The "double frame" with the legs and the "pissed" Santa were awesome. Loved em! Thanks for sharing. :)
Great images. The unflipped B&W was my favourite, followed by the low reflection shot of the 2 men walking in unison. Amazing to see London so quiet. 📷
This was great thanks. I liked the flip version of the umbrella pic too. Do you always keep your weather sealing lens on or only in poor weather conditions?
You,re lucky with Fuji, Nikon will definitely not fix your camera for free if it’s water damaged and it will invalidate the warranty, just something to consider. Brilliant photos Gareth, loved the film.👏👍😀
Hi Gareth, really enjoyed Street Photography in the rain, great pictures, you really inspire me to get out with my camera. My favourite shot was the umbrella in the doorway, something unusual, keep up the good work. Regards Ian Cheesman
This says a lot about the Fujifilm Camera! All your photos are fantastic, reflections and lots of cool stuff!!! The London Giant in the foreground with guy in the distance is superb. I'm wondering how you even noticed that frame in the first place. Really helpful is your giving the settings for these situations. Thanks Gareth!!! I just wish everyone would drive on the right side of the road. LOL
Hi, i am new to street photography, i went out a few years ago for the first time using a sony nex6 and got some ok shots, but i am a novice, so always shot on auto. I want to buy the xt4 but have been drawn to the x100f, can you tell me what you think i should go for as someone that wants to learn more about the tech side of photography, but generally wants to go out and take pictures.
Great video, loved your use of reflections and another X100V shooter! Very tempted to add this to my fujifilm family! I'm new to street shooting, based up in newcastle and just started doing POV shoots...
Great video, and cracking shots from south bank with the umbrella man and puddles.. if I ever manage to get a shot like that, I’ll hang up my photographers hat..mission accomplished! 📸 😁 One for the pool room wall as they say in Australia. 👌
This is why I always have a couple of sandwich bags folded up in my camera bag. They are excellent for keeping water off of the camera in a pinch, they weigh next to nothing and you can basically buy them anywhere. The Tesco on the corner of Trafalgar Square sells them. Surprised you didn't hit up Piccadilly and St James either. You tend to get more locals round there and they tend to be well heeled and stylish types.
Great video mate, as much as we all want to see glorious sunlight it's important to VLOG the shitty weather too! That puddle image at Trafalgar is something else, worth the trip for that alone.
I'm just curious you shot that awesome image (man walking in rain B/W ) at f8, 500th a second at 2000 Iso on screen it looks like it has no noise what's your trick as I have just bought the x-t4 and find noise is noticeable past 160 Iso and looks nothing like what you are producing. Is there some post processing you do or is there a trick to increasing ISO without noise/ grain ect?
How are you keeping the X100v shots so sharp? I've been shooting a Sony A7Riii for the past years so maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges, but I cant seem to get this camera to produce sharp photos? Am I missing something?
Cool post, Gareth. Well done, especially reflections, and your live thought process commentary. Suggest numbering images to facilitate viewer comment. Flipped image works better, with top down diagonal, IMO. Lanterns w/string also a fav. Good tip about removing SD card and battery. Cheers!
Hands down "Umbrella Man" for me Gareth. From a potential fungus perspective, I'm cringing with the damp cameras into the bag mate, perhaps the temp may be on your side.
Where I live, even the Pentax legendary weather sealing is no guarantee of the camera and/or lens coming out alive after a session in the wet. What you call heavy rain is a light mist :D :P Heavy rain is when you get out of the vehicle you're in, walk 5 feet away from it and then you can't see the damn thing because of the rain!! :D I'd be leery to even take my W300 out in rain like that, and it's waterproof!! But, even a good downpour can be too much for the weather sealing of a camera. I tend to stay out of the rain unless it's going to be light.
Great seeing all the walks I do when visiting the smoke. Nice to see it well presented in the worst conditions! Pity there's a rise in covid numbers in the capital. I don't live within a day trip's distance, so the next visit's going to be a while. Is there anywhere you're keen to visit once restrictions are lifted?
Stick the camera in a freezer bag with a couple packs of silica gel, wrap the top of the bag around the lens and put an elastic band around it, cut a tiny hole for your strap to poke through and put a band around that too. That's what I do and I haven't had a problem yet. Looks ugly but it works brilliantly.
I think lockdown streets are ideal if you want to document historical building facades, and use models for some fashion or fun photos that would be impossible otherwise. It's a potential opportunity that wont (hopefully) be available again. My choice is for the upside-down version
In wet weather, I will use a brolly (and wear a waterproof jacket) even though I have a weather-sealed camera (an X100V) simply because I don't want to be soaked through. I was talking to the camera store salesman in Calumet Glasgow, some years ago about my street photography work and he asked me why I use a brolly when I had a weather-sealed camera (it was the X-T1 and 35mm f2 lens) and suggested I was a fair-weather photographer... I responded, “no, it's just I don't want to get drenched!” 🤣 In saying that, I do shoot with an XF10 too and took it out in the blizzard we had a week back Tuesday, when I couldn't get to work... Knee deep in snow, and had a large rigid brolly to photograph behind. Flicker: thesrpspaintshop
i was wearing a waterproof jacket so i wasnt bothered about me.. i cant use the camera and hold the osmo.. let alone a brolly haha.. id much rather get wet.. i dont mind that. thanks for watching mate!

The flipped reflection shot is very interesting and very nicely composed. Simply timeless.
reflections of the wet surface is the number reason why I love street photography in the rain 😊
The reflection shot at Trafalgar Square is an epic shot but I really like the man with the umbrella flipped. Great images.
I like the one walking left to right by the Thames, and also the two blokes walking in time, but then again they were all good shots
Great final shots! Very productive day of photowalk :)
